Posted byWhatever:
Showing your true colours eh homeycheez? Nothing but a wannabe who wants to talk tough, which of course didn't work. And now you're resorting to childish stunts like this. What are you like 14?

Posted byNachzeher:
LOL Whatever was right what happened to the way you talk homeycheez? it went to hawaii or something?

Posted byHomeyCheez:
O.K.!!! Enough is ENOUGH!!! Whatever is a homo, and I have no problem w/ that. Whoever is posting trying to contradict that needs to get a freakin' clue. I support you Whatever and your incessant desire for burly man love.

Posted byBigBoy:
Hey, there Whatever. I'm gay too! If you want we can get together sometime and get "silly". Reply to this post if you're interested.

Posted byWhatever:
HEY! HomeyCheez or whoever that is, stopping posting as me! I am a silky boy, loud and proud!! And nothing that you post here is gonna change that. Please stop posting under my name. It's extremely immature!!

Posted byWhatever:
Yep my friends it took a genius to come up with that gay thing.

Posted byWhatever:
Haha how lame can you get writing under my name. It amuses me that you're still into childish shyt like this. grow up. By the way what happened to the way you type? Was that made up too?

Posted byWhatever:
You're right HomeyCheez - I knew it would be a matter of time before the truth about my closeted lust for men and little boys would come out. Please don't judge me if I like showtunes, drapery, and man love. To everyone here, I'm sorry that I've brought up such issues on a website about music - but I'm here and I'm queer!

Posted byHomeyCheez:
Look, Whatever. I know you totally want me - but I'm sorry, I'm not that kind of guy. If you have homoerotic tendencies, that's fine - I'm not here to judge, simply to let you know that I'm not in any way interested in you sexually. I wish you luck in your search for a life partner!

Posted bySpaZ:
pop music isn;t even music...neither is rap...and that includes limp bizkit...do lyrics mean anything to people in the expression of music? there has to be more to expressing stuff than the repetive pop culture portrays and more than what fred durst thinks about nookie and other pointless things he describes in his songs...its not about the money...which is why i dont get why pop "artists" are making so much money off lip syncing at concerts, not playing instruments, not writing their songs, and dancing around stage like a bunch of idiots...or i guess i just have a whole different definition on what real music is...so awesome page!

Posted byWhatever:
Wow what a great argument from homeycheez. I'm hurt. =). You could see that he totally dropped the way he was speaking before to avoid looking stupid. C'mon don't you have a personality that you can say is yours?

Posted bya**holistik_rocker_gurl:
i think pop is supoerficial and shallow... i mean they mostly talk about high school cr*p $h*t but really, how many people do enjoy high school? its filled with peer pressure all that cr*p...and they have to have perfect dumb blonde teens like britney to sing.... I HATE POp...rock kicks *$$

Posted byUncle Bob:
They went mad at led zepplin, they went mad at the beatles, they went mad at sabbath why?? drugs, alcohol, some freak who killed 8 people in the sixties, 'backtracking' of lyrics - but id have to agree with the max - pop does have its 'hidden messages' yes i agree that pop singers influence their fans in a negative way, i.e. eating disorders, loss of individuality. pop fans are sheep - they follow it just cos its trendy, pop culture sucks ass its so unoriginal - teh drug counterculture is the best, long live pot, LSD and speed.

Posted byUncle Bob:
What is the diff between 91fm/MTV/Juice TV pop and heavy metal/rock?? - Metal and rock never go out of style, i.e. in 1991 NKOTB where known as New Kids on the Block and making millions off the average 11 year old girl, but in 2001 they are known as Old Men On The Unemployment Benefit, Britanny, N Sync, Christina, 5ive and BsB popular now will within 5 years end up collecting their dole cheques every tuesday morning whereas bands like Black Sabbath (who have been going since 1969)will still be selling records (the latest i hear is sabbath are still going)- and that is all u need to know why rock outlives pop. 1000 to 1

Posted byHomeyCheez:
Oh yeah! Well so is your mom!

Posted byWhatever:
Damn, the urge is just too strong.

Posted byWhatever:
Must...refrain ..... from..... pointing... out... that.... homeycheez... is.... an.. idiot.... AGAIN

Elvis is for hillbilly's and rednecks

Posted bySubXavier:
Individuality -is- a trend. Look at Elvis. Look at Fabian. Look at New Kids on the Block. Noone did what they did before they did it, and look now... you assault the people that are doing the same thing that they did. Ironic, no? Try to be a little more objective in your views. A hole in the head doesn't constitute an open mind. Oh, and Clark... using your age as a defense mechanism is pretty weak. Stick to the subject.

Posted byPacer:
Elvis was in the Top 10 Charts 7 years before The Beatles and he is still in the Top 10. Elvis is the No.1 artist of all time and has sold more records than any other artist or group. he could sing any type of music and had a charisma that was unbeatable. May I suggest all of you go and see 'Elvis - The Concert' when it comes your way. It is absolutely outstanding!! What amazes me is the emphasis placed these days on GROUPS!! Why not solo performers - they are far more talented and do not have to rely on the other members helping them out if they go out of tune. Givde me singers anyday to groups. In any case, do not knock modern artists as they are only expressing themselves in their own way. Even Elvis once said that there is room for everybody in the business!!

Right on Clark...Red7, I don't know how old you are, but you need to get a fukking clue. You obviously missed the whole point of that paragraph I wrote. If you think anyone who has an adult mentality is a senile old fart (by the way I'm 20) then I'm sorry to hear about your little diaper problem. If Pantera is old then you must have been born sometime around noon, yesterday. I'd like to know what you don't consider "geezer" rock, that is...if you even know what rock is.

Posted byclarke:
Red7, do you have any respect for what kind of music people like? I happen to be 15 and I happen to like Ozzy, Pantera, and mostly Metallica. But just because I like them does not mean I am an old senile fart. And I am not as dumb as the average teenager, and I don't like rap, pop, or wear clothes or get haircuts that stupid teenyboppers like. In fact I'm growing my hair long. Please try to respect a person's favorite music.

Posted byhomeycheez thinks he is "cool":
Homeycheez, do you know how to spell anything? Are you trying to send some stupid message to people who know how to spell? To me, you remind me of a stupid kid at high school who is dying to be "cool". You must take great pride in never having lived up to anything.

Posted byKiFi:
Good points! But I still think pop isn't what music should be. Its a trend and trends never last. Many people who follow pop follow trends and by doing this they forget about their own individuality while trying to be "trendy"

Posted byGabrielle:
then, the interpretation of pop culture opens a whole new world of opinions and desperations. but music is, at its lowest, perfectly harmless, and at its best, something transcendent and pure. and my point in the beginning was that whichever it is, whatever face it takes on, the music itself is still music, and all music is a good thing. mikey: why is god necessary for there to be meaning in life?

Posted byLJ:
Of course rock will never die, but the music industry would not be the same without pop. I mean, come on, do we really think that 7 year old little girls want to listen to Metallica, AC/DC or Pantera??? Sure, some of us did as kids, but we were one of a kind. Pop will always be around, as will rock/metal. They are both important components of the music world. Some will grow up and listen to cool sh*t, and some won't. Who cares? As long as we can all listen to what we enjoy, we can all respect one another!

Posted byRed7:
Pantera, Ozzie, Metallica? Christ, talk about music for senile old farts... You people sound like my grandfather arguing that swing will never die and rock is sinful. Whatever. I'll let you people get on to drinking your Ensure.

Posted byhannah:
some people say that rock music is the cause of a lot of damage. these are ignorant people. people blame there own mistakes and other peoples mistakes on people like manson who really just sings about reality. i mean, take britney spears, her 1st hit. what is it about? asking her boyfriend to hit her baby one more time. millions of small children listen to that song and sing along o that song. and they say rock is destructive....

Posted byMikey:
Back in the 60's a lot of Pop was great music! Even some of the Bubblegum stuff was great! (Before everyone starts: yes, there was crap, too. There always is.) Men like Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Bob Dylan, Jack Bruce, Jeff Beck, Leslie West, Ginger Baker, Jack Casady, Mitch Mitchell, John Fogerty, Jerry Garcia, Keith Moon, Van Morrison, the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Doors, Animals & so many more were veritable Rock giants. There weren't too many women Rock musicians; but there were great singers like Grace Slick, Sandy Denny, Aretha Franklin, Maddy Prior, Janis Joplin, Melanie, Marion Williams & Linda Ronstadt. There is still great music being made; but in all honesty, I have to say we have lost something. It's not just Rock & Pop which have changed. Soul, R&B, Country, & Jazz are diminished as well. Classical music's glory is in the past. We are the remnants of a dying culture. We are going down. Maybe that's why the Blues still seems to be strong. It fits the time. Sorry to be so dramatic; but I think our music is a reflection of our lives. Please don't tell me what I'm saying is my opinion; I know it's my opinion; that's why I'm sharing it. Please consider these things. I believe the reason our culture is deteriorating (and quickly) is because we as a people have turned away from God. Without God; life has no ultimate purpose or meaning. Maybe that's why our music and culture is becoming so much more unreal and superficial.

Rock is still alive and kickin'!!

Posted byclarke:
I agree that rock will never die. Particulary, heavy metal is my favorite music. I don't like it because it is cool, I like it because it means something to me very special, which i cannot explain. Metallica is my favorite band, and i did not hear about them on mtv. I would to add a quote from a Metallica song called Damage Inc. "Following our instinct, not a trend. Go against the grain until the end!" That is my opinion about pop and rap and hiphop or whatever is cool. I am 15, but not stupid jerks like other 15 year olds.

Posted bythe max:
Hmmmm...good point about pop culture vs pop music. I agree the music itself is harmless (unless you're talking about alot of rap acts). It's the imagery and exploitation of the musicians (if that's what you want to call them) that concerns me. Now being that music/entertainment is a major part of any culture, you see why I'm concerned. I will have to say though...what we're interpreting is not the music itself...but the artists and the way they are put on way too high of a pedestel. Their music is pointless and no real cause for alarm but the artists and their creators are.

Posted byGabrielle:
good heavens, this has become a lot more than a discussion about pop music vs. rock music, max-music-the-the. if youd like to discuss pop CULTURE, then ill go as far as knives at peoples backs. ill go beyond that. ill go somewhere in the realm of metaphorical nuclear destruction. but we are speaking here of MUSIC. and music is not all that pop culture is made of. pop culture is composed of entertainment, and music is a large part of that in most societies and 'always' has been, but again, its not the whole. pop culture itself...is...something thats slowly ruining the national...'soul'...and character. culture, defined as the key parts of a society, artistically, philosophically, etc. music itself is usually harmless and has countless layers of interpretation. but is that what were interpreting, or something greater?

Every body has gotta read "lostconcept"s post(which is a good bit down) It's fairly long but most definatly worth reading. Excellent piece lostconcept! Maximum respect to you!

Posted bythe max:
If you think Creed is the last semblance of rock that is left...you live a very sheltered life my friend. PanterA, Soulfly, Metallica, Sevendust, Ozzy, Toni Iommi, Staind, Megadeath, AC/DC, Machine Head, System of a Down, Slayer, A Perfect Circle, Tool...the list is just short of endless. Those are all bands that remain untouched by Techno and rap. The bands that do use it (and use it well) are awesome and innovative. I would list them but people come here to view opinions not novels.

Posted byRed7:
Techno and rap have killed rock! The only thing rock has to show for itself is geezer music like Creed!

Posted byKiFi62:
WOW! In My lifetime, I have never ever came across such truth and insight into music. I'm totally moved and almost in tears after reading some of these posts. antiGUY, maximum respect to you. you've put into words whats been on my mind for quite some time now. Fabulous stuff! Maximum respect, also, to lostconcept, kay, lucy, firestormdragon, maggOt and lots more who really seem to know what music is about. Ye probebly think I'm mad gettin all emotional and stuff but I live in Ireland, a country which is really ifluenced by Britt pop and dance disco sh*t. Before reading this page, I was pretty worried that trends and pop was gonna take over, but now, I can't beleive I ever thought that. To say I'm a fifteen year old girl who listens to all kinds of rock is fairly unusual here. If I do say it, I get a rather critical reaction from others, (particularly teenage girls who are musically blind) as if I should be ashamed of myself. But now I realise that the music i love is music with truth and soul, music that expresses reality and life, music with passion and meaning. Pop is a fantasy, it has no meaning. It's simply made for money. I LOVE ROCK and some day I dream of becoming an electric gutarist. ROCK WILL DEFINATLY LIVE FOREVER, AND ITS THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE HERE WHO HAVE PROVED THAT. I love ye all!!! Thank you!
