B Sides for 07/21/2014
As we previously reported, the film was released as a standard 2D DVD and Blu-Ray featuring the 3D and 2D versions. Both the DVD and Blu-Ray feature 5.1 Surround Sound and include bonus interviews with the band. "Appetite For Democracy 3D" runs just under 3 hours and was filmed in November 2012 when the band launched their first Las Vegas Residency at the Joint in the Hard Rock Casino. You can order the Blu-Ray here and the DVD here.
Fans can watch the new documentary here. We were sent these details about the album: "I would like people to tap into what JJ Cale did - that's the point. I'm just the messenger; I've always felt that that's my job. I try to interpret things so that the public at large, or at least the people who listen to what I do, will become intrigued about where I got it from," said Clapton. After years admiring JJ Cale's work and covering several of his songs such as "After Midnight" and "Cocaine", Clapton finally collaborated with Cale for the first time in his career on the 2006 original album Road to Escondido. At the time, Clapton said "This is the realization of what may have been my last ambition, to work with the man whose music has inspired me for as long as I can remember." more.
Most Beatles fans have heard Paul McCartney talk about how the original lyrics to "Yesterday" were "Scrambled eggs/oh baby how I love your legs!" But they've never seen it rendered quite like this. In 1984, at the time of this interview, Paul was promoting his Give My Regards To Broad Street film and soundtrack album, which saw him re-recording several Beatles classics, including "Here, There and Everywhere," "The Long and Winding Road" and "Yesterday." In the interview, he tells Muni, "When something's just so successful people often don't want to do the big one." At that time, McCartney was in the midst of a decade long hiatus from the road, and even when he did tour, he leaned more heavily on his solo catalog - it should be noted however, that he did play "Yesterday," which was included on his classic 1976 live record Wings Over America. But when McCartney hit the road in 1989 for his Flowers in the Dirt album, he seemed to make peace with his Beatles legacy and in the decades since, has featured lots of Fab Four songs in his sets. However, "Scrambled Eggs" is still a rarity. Watch a rather psychedelic take on McCartney's interview with legendary WNEW DJ Scott Muni here.
"We're beyond excited," says lead singer Gustav Wood. "We've pushed ourselves hard to become better songwriters and challenged ourselves to be more creative. We're extremely proud of the results and feel this our best work to date." The yet-untitled disc is due for an early 2015 release, with the band previewing select songs during their upcoming North American tour with fellow Brits You Me At Six. "The past few years have been amazing for us," says Wood. "We've gone from buying a van on the internet and booking our own shows to having a number one single on American radio. But this is only the beginning for this band. We're excited to return to the States this fall with You Me at Six and begin the next chapter of our story."
Gibbons had this to say, " When I first saw Johnny perform, I was, maybe 12 or 13, and he was known as 'Johnny Cool Daddy Winter' and we've always thought of him as exactly that: 'One Cool Daddy'. "Johnny became a dear and passionate friend as well as the accomplished bluesman we have come to admire. It's now a moment for celebration of his brilliance frozen for all time. "We've lost another of the gifted guitar greats and a truly soulful spirit."
The album was produced by Chelsea Grin and Diego Farias (Animals As Leaders, Volumes, Stray From The Path) and the clock work video was directed by Ryan Sheehy. Ashes To Ashes debuted at #27 on the Billboard Top 200 with over 10,100 units sold in its first week of release. This marks Chelsea Grin's highest career charting debut and also their biggest U.S. sales week. The album also enters on a number of other Billboard charts including #4 at Hard Music, #8 at Rock and #16 at Digital. Watch the new video here.
In the case of Mandatory Fun, Weird Al took from the styles of Foo Fighters, Crosby Stills & Nash and more - as well as the traditional marching band theme song played at sports games, which is the focus of "Sports Song," his fifth music video in his eight-video series, released Friday (July 18). "Sports Song" finds Al and his band backed up by an entire army of a marching band, sauntering down the football field as they sing the praises of their team. You know, "their team." The team that's going to kick the butt of your team. Because your team is inferior. The amusing part of "Sports Song" is how it boils down every fight song you've heard at a sporting event to its most basic parts: we're better than you, our team rules, yours sucks. "We're great, and you suck!" Yankovic sings in the clip, hosted by Funny or Die, as the crowd cheers on, smashing beer mugs and generally having a raucous time applauding their team that - "full disclosure" - might not actually be that great. Watch the video here.
The footage also includes the band warming up in the tuning room, as well as "St. Anger" from the show. Metallica recently wrapped up their "By Request" European tour and will perform at Heavy Montreal on August 9. "Orion" was the lone instrumental on "Master Of Puppets", the band's third album and final one with bassist Cliff Burton, who died tragically in a tour bus accident in Sweden in September of 1986. The album peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 on its way to selling more than 6 million copies in the States alone. Check out the video here.
"I dig the energy on it," says bassist Nikki Sixx. "It pays tribute to the original, yet I imagine when these guys play this thing liveand their crowd they're gonna rip it up because it sounds like them. It's their song now." Due August 19, the tribute project sees a variety of country artists covering Motley Crue tracks, including performances by LeAnne Rimes, Florida Georgia Line, Darius Rucker, Gretchen Wilson and more. Check out the preview here.
X17online reports that Roth recently received the latest in a large catalogue of traditional Japanese tattoos. Roth says the body ink is by legendary horishi tattoo artist, Horiyoshi III, who specializes in Japanese traditional full-body tattoos. The singer became a resident of Tokyo in 2012; he continues to maintain homes in New York City and Pasadena, California. Check out the video and Roth's tattoo here.
KISS performed their standard 15-song set as part of their summer tour with Def Leppard, which featured 9 tunes from the band's classic 1970s era. The KISS/Def Leppard run wraps up August 31 in Houston, Texas. This fall, KISS will follow Guns N' Roses' and Motley Crue's lead and play their first Las Vegas residency. "KISS Rocks Vegas" will see the band perform 9 shows at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino between November 5th and 23rd. Stream the Charlotte show here.
He's also a GRAMMY nominee, with his 2003 full-length, Reflections, among those that vied for the inaugural Best Dance/Electronica Album prize in 2005, which just so happened to be the first year that award was given out. Unfortunately, he went on to lose to Basement Jaxx and their album, Kish Kash. But, it's an honor just to be nominated. While some of his contemporaries have stayed relevant by adapting to the changing tides in dance music, van Dyk has remained true to the trance sound he helped pioneer, pushing his music forward without succumbing to traditional pop leanings or catering to radio station formats. "My look at electronic music comes from a different point," he explained during an interview with Radio.com. "When I started DJing, the DJ was the freak in the corner while other people had fun. It was about the music, and it developed from a small subculture into probably the biggest music culture in the world." According to van Dyk, what we're seeing now is just an "influx in pop music," a wave of danceable music that has gotten the mainstream audience's attention. But Van Dyk knows how trends work. "I mean, if one of the big rock bands comes up with a really cool album, then everything is rock driven again," he explained. "I don't want electronic music to die once the EDM hype is over. This music is there to stay forever, therefore we need to focus on artists who made music that lasts longer than three minutes on the radio." van Dyk's serious passion for electronic music was palpable throughout the interview, with the artist proudly discussing the upcoming third edition of his popular Politics of Dancing series, which will be a mix compilation made entirely from all new original productions. He's equally ardent about his legendary live shows, where he incorporates an array of instruments and gear to create a unique, one of a kind experience every night, running counter to the perception that DJ gigs are all about pressing play. "When I'm playing now, I pretty much have a recording studio with me onstage. I have keyboards, computers, custom made mixers, a lot of controllers that enable me to be really interactive and actually play things," he said. "I prefer maybe me pressing the wrong key at some point and still be able to be live than everything being programmed and you just put the USB stick in the CD player, press play and then do this," he added, waving a hand in the air. "That has nothing to do with what electronic music means to me and the real followers of electronic music." Watch van Dyk, who is on tour all summer, open up about everything from his favorite remixes to the one award that means the most to him in the exclusive video interview clip here.
To be fair, in those three decades he founded Everything But The Girl with his then girlfriend, now wife Tracey Thorn, played on Thorn's solo recordings, wrote two books including his latest Romany and Tom: A Memoir, became a club DJ and started a record label, Buzzin' Fly. But in April, he released album number two, Hendra. And so, the question shouldn't be what took him so long, but why, after all this time, he wanted to make another album at all. And the answer is actually quite simple. "I just wanted to get back to guitar playing," he told Radio.com. "Bernard Butler, who is my partner on the record, he used to be the guitarist in Suede, and we ran into each other at a party a couple of years ago, and I think we both realized we were in a similar space," Watt said. "I'd been running the label for ten years, he'd been in the studio producing other people for ten years, and we both suddenly thought, 'It'd be great to play guitar again, wouldn't it?' That's kind of how we came together." Another party led him to meet another guitar legend: Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. It was a party for his book that took place in London before he was scheduled to head into the studio. "It was mainly people from the [publishing] world, and we were introduced. And he was really friendly, and in the middle of the conversation, completely unexpectedly, he said, 'Would you like to hear my demos?' Which is not what you expect to hear from Pink Floyd's David Gilmour!" Watt said. "But he was serious, and he texted me a couple of days later, and said, 'I'd love to get together and talk about music.'" Watt went to Gilmour's house and the two spent the day together listening to music over lunch. A couple of weeks later, Watt was working on a song that he thought Gilmour would sound great on. "I just texted him and said, 'How about it?' And he said, 'Sure!' And it was done in a couple of days, no managers."
Produced by Grammy-nominated producer David Mayfield @ Nashville's Toy Box Studio, "Jupiter With You" is a collection of 11 original songs which take the base roots rock feel of his band Lines West and adds gorgeous pop elements as well as an organic vintage feel having recorded the album with classic amps and guitars, tube mics and mono drums. Says Larney: "I wanted to continue the dance somewhere between Indie-pop and Americana but also take this album one step further. The songs themselves feel like finely honed extensions of the songs on the first album, only they're way more relaxed, more at ease, and a lot more "live" sounding. Lyrically, this record is a bit of a departure too. Some of the headier topics on the first have given way to more emotional themes." Visit his site for more here.
We were sent these details: The vast majority of this historic material has never before been released on these formats. The world will finally have a chance to hear what could have easily been considered a classic album in its day were it not for a set of tragic circumstances that buried the release for more than a half century. L.C. Cooke recorded what was to be his debut album (tracks 1-10 on this collection) during the first half of the 1960s for his older brother Sam's SAR Records, notable for being one of the first artist-owned labels and having a roster that included Billy Preston, the latter-day Soul Stirrers (featuring Johnnie Taylor), and The Valentinos, the secular iteration of gospel's Womack Brothers.
The festival was canceled based on recommendations from Ulster County emergency services and the Health Department.
