B Sides for 11/03/2014
And he knew he'd made the wrong choice seconds after the charity performance began. Collins, who worked on Plant's first two solo albums, tells Q: "I thought it was just going to be low-key and we'd all get together and have a play. But something happened between that conversation and the day - it became a Led Zeppelin reunion. "I turned up and I was a square peg in a round hole. Robert was happy to see me, but Jimmy wasn't." He admits to realizing "this is a mistake" almost as soon as the band started playing. "You could sense I wasn't welcome, and Tony was not making life easy," he recalls. "If I could have walked off, I would have done. But then we'd all be talking about why Phil Collins walked off Live Aid - so I just stuck it out." Read more here.
The 21-minute film is directed by "Noreen Bauble," which is just a moniker that Arcade Fire uses, and features guest appearances from Peter Gabriel, The National, James Murphy, Andrew Garfield, and Slash. The plot of the film centers around Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler's 27th birthday and the "27 Club curse" that strikes musicians on that perilous year of their lives. Truly a scary concept for any musician in that year of their life. Even more scary: Jim Morrison's Ghost coming into play. Arcade Fire recently wrapped their Reflektor tour and now are plotting their next move. Nice to see they are remaining active in non-traditional ways between projects. Watch it here.
The tune is the basis for episode three of the companion HBO series, which features guest appearances by Brown, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood, among others. Due November 10, "Sonic Highways" was recorded in eight American cities - Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The Foos are unveiling new tunes each week in sync with their 8-part HBO series of the same name, which premiered October 17. Listen to the new track here.
As part of Dodge's 100th anniversary, the event brought together more than 850 owners of new and classic Charger, Challenger and Viper models to display their vehicles at the car show, which was followed by a Crue concert at Gas Monkey Live, a new state-of-the-art second Gas Monkey music venue in the Texas city. Motley Crue recently launched the fall leg of "The Final Tour" in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Alice Cooper is once again on board as special guest for the run, which will wrap in Spokane, Washington on November 22. Watch video from the Gas Monkey event here.
And while he's not allowed to discuss the contents of the follow-up to 2011 album Forevermore, he hints that it's "really cool." He'd joined Night Ranger in 2008 after Beach left, and was confirmed as a member of David Coverdale's band in August, following Doug Aldrich's decision to end his 11-year stint in May. Hoekstra tells MyGlobalMind: "Reb I met when he was helping me learn the Nightranger songs. He's a great guy and a great player. I wanted to explore the opportunity and make sure it was going to be a great fit. "I didn't know if I'd get on the record and David would say, 'Maybe he's not our guy,' because our meeting was very brief at the end of May. It was important to do it the right way - not just rush in and go after a couple of hours, 'I've got a gig!'" Read more here.
The rocker opened up about the book, his rocky relationship with singer Steven Tyler, crazy groupie stories and much more. In "Rocks", Perry opens up for the first time about the wild, inside story of his life in the legendary band he co-founded in 1970. The guitarist just completed a 2-week nationwide book signing tour to launch the memoir, which currently sits at No. 10 in its second week on the "Hardcover Nonfiction" chart of the New York Times Best Sellers List. Watch the interview here.
Mainman Daniel Gildenlow - who spent four months in hospital during the album's production - recently said: "I find the term 'acoustic album' very misleading. This album is as bold a statement as any of our albums, and will in the same way offer laughter, tears, surprises and challenges. "If it's not original, if it's not uncompromisingly passionate, then it's not Pain of Salvation." It's set for release on November 10 via InsideOut. Check out the video here.
This is the question that is raised upon news (as revealed in an interview with the New York Times) that Bruce Springsteen had never read The Grapes of Wrath when he wrote and recorded the song/album "The Ghost of Tom Joad," named after the central character of the John Steinbeck novel. After being asked what books he was embarrassed to have not read, Springsteen was frank: "I read The Grapes of Wrath very late, long after I'd written the song "Ghost of Tom Joad." However, it ended up being everything I'd hoped it to be. I haven't read East of Eden yet, and I'd like to." Read more here.
He tells Music Radar: "I think a lot of it has to do with the fact we're both very blues orientated artists - we draw from a certain amount of soul in the way we approach things. I think that's where our chemistry really lies - I don't think we've ever really had an argument. "There have certainly been times when there might be a part of a lyric or an idea where it's a case of, 'I'm not sure about that' or, 'I'm coming up with something like this, I'm not reacting to it.' The cool thing about that is we've both been in this dog and pony show long enough to know what's going to happen. "You just don't take it personally - it's part of the filtration process and part of why I want to work with this person, because I trust their instincts." Read more here.
He tells Indie Power: "As the years go by, I start to realize how blessed and lucky I am. I take care of myself - I think you sing with your whole body, it's not just the voice. "As a young kid, I went through that whole stage where temptation was there in front of me and one overindulges when you're younger and you pay the price in later years. But I always realised how important it was for me to take care of myself and my voice if I was going to have a voice when I was older - and I'm glad I did, ultimately because I'd like to think I'm still learning." He continues: "It's all still very fresh for me - it's still new. When I get up on stage with other musicians, it's like for the first time." Read more here.
Tremonti says: "He's such a quick learner - he gets everything in two seconds. He came in a few days late for our last writing session and we were kidding with him that the new songs were tough and he'd have to catch up. But he learned them in two seconds. "From the first record to the second everyone's going to notice a big difference on the rhythm section side of things. He's the best of the best out there on bass. It's going to make a big difference." Read more here.
This song is basically a plea to a lover, asking them to take a chance on a relationship it could be heavenly, or it could hellish, but even if it's hellish, it could still work- depending on our personalities and thresholds for emotional pain ha... But really it's from that moment when you finally let your guard down and surrender to the fact that you're vulnerable. As far as the writing process goes on this one: I came up with the first line with the melody while walking to the studio, then sang it to Space and we started building it. The chorus was tricky to find on this one, couldn't find the right groove at first, but we got it after a little bit of fighting for it. I can't speak for Space on what the sonic elements are attributed to, but I hear some Depeche Mode influence, which is always good in my books. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
