B Sides for 09/10/2014
"For performers who are also songwriters - the creators - for rock music, for soul, for the blues - it's finally dead," claimed the KISS bassist. "Rock is finally dead." Simmons, who this fall will publish a marketing advice book, "Me, Inc.: Build An Army Of One, Unleash Your Inner Rock God, Win In Life And Business", also suggested kids give up trying to learn instruments or to attempt to make it in the music industry. Well, you are in luck, because that is exactly what happened on today's Ellen, which all served as a promo for Minaj's scheduled appearance on today's (Sept. 10) show. Clearly Ellen can't wait to hang with the rap superstar and now likely you will be setting your DVRs to see what other kind of hilarious antics will ensue. For now, check out the video here.
The beauty of the song, "Ready and Willing," is that both in lyrical content and upbeat exuberance the song doesn't capture New Found Glory aging at all. The band sounds every bit hopelessly romantic and boisterous as ever, which is just the way fans want their pop punk pioneers. This all makes a bunch of teenagers depicting the band all the more believable for a split second, until you realize the Florida group formed in the late '90s. Watch the video here.
Due October 21 and produced by Trevor Horn, the project is Idol's first album since 2006's "Happy Holidays" Christmas record, and his first of original material since 2005's "Devil's Playground." The rocker will launch a fall European tour in support of the record; the 3-week, 11-show run starts November 5 at the 02 Academy in Birmingham, UK and wraps up in Milan, Italy on November 23. Watch the video series debut here.
Available now on both DVD and Blu-ray, the package features the band filmed in concert on November 21, 2012 during their first residency in Las Vegas. The Blu-ray includes the complete concert film in both 3D and 2D plus an interactive 3D photo gallery, and the standard DVD presents the 2D version of the film. Watch the video here.
Keith collaborated with his daughter, artist Theodora Richards, who provided illustrations for the book, which was inspired by a childhood experience shared in the guitarist's 2010 New York Times best-selling memoir, "Life." The story was written with Barnaby Harris and Bill Shapiro and has been simultaneously released in hardcover and ebook, with the hardcover edition including an exclusive audio CD featuring bonus book content. Watch his Today Show appearance here.
The tune follows the recent release of the project's lead rock single, "Edge Of A Revolution" (hear it here), as the band promotes new music to each radio format. Due November 4, "No Fixed Address" is the group's 8th album and first since 2011's "Here and Now." The Canadian rockers' last release peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 on its way to selling more than a million copies in the US alone. Check out the new song here.
In keeping with the original's throwback vibe, the video for "Where No Eagles Fly" seems like it could have come straight out of a time many decades ago, from Casablancas and co.'s retro clothing to the faded, blurred effect on the video. Images of New York City flank the group as they pose for photos around town and play in decrepit old clubs. There's also some fairly cheesy '80s-esque video effects and transitions along the way. If you're feeling good about the direction Casablancas is taking as he enjoys some time off from the Strokes, his solo album Tyranny is out Sept. 23. Watch the video here.
Due September 16, "World On Fire" was recorded with Slash's touring band, Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators, and producer Michael Baskette. A week after the album's release, Slash will promote the project and mark the Guitar Center's 50th anniversary with a series of three concerts in Hollywood's most legendary clubs. The rocker will play shows at The Troubadour (Sep 23), The Roxy (Sep 25) and The Whisky (Sep 26). Watch the latest webisode here.
This is one of Pablo's first interviews since being released this summer from a prison stint on illegal weapons charges. He expects to have an album out next year. "Raise Up" is pure love for North Carolina. Do you ever have to buy your own drinks when you're in your home state? No, I don't. But it's a respect thing. People give me drinks all day long but at the end of the day, I have a job to do. A lot of times society has it where people with money don't have to pay for things. And people that don't have money, they don't get nothing. I like to keep it humble. Your drinks will always be. What did it take to write the perfect North Carolina anthem? It's like aggressive but positive. It takeshumble yourself and to think about what you're great for. And to not forget where you came from. Try to make sure that people know no matter where you come from, you tried to make something of yourself. You take all that, mix it up and that's what you got. Did you have the idea for that song already or did you write it entirely to Timbaland's beat? Tim gave me the beat, and it took me almost two weeks to write that record. For one, I'm a perfectionist. I second-guess myself; I'm my worst critic. That's one of the first tracks that Timbaland had ever gave me, and I wanted to prove myself worthy. I studied and studied. I think that's where a lot of artists go wrong, that they can take a track and just do something to it. When you marry a beat, it's just like having a wife, you have to be very attentive to get something out of it. You're attentive to your wife, she'll be the best wife ever. If you're attentive to the track, you know, the track will be your best work ever. Check out the full interview here.
Guitarist Kerry King recently said he knew the band were under pressure to deliver after the death of co-founder Jeff Hanneman and the dismissal of original drummer Dave Lombardo. King admitted: "I know people are going to expect us to fail. I get it. But I'm very proud of what we've done so far. It's everything that people liked Slayer for in the past. Don't worry about it." Watch the video here.
This song has some history with the band. It's the 2nd song on the new album and one of my favourites. It was also released on our 2nd ep 'Corned Beef Colossus' in 2013 and an original, totally different version was on a very early demo many moons ago. Back in the day I was just rattling through some different bits on an acoustic guitar and fell upon the lead lick. It really caught my attention and within no time I had an acoustic song with some vocals pretty much down. I transferred it to electric and was listening to a lot of tool at the time so used a lot of variation with effect and delay. We used it on a very early demo that hopefully nobody still has! It's totally different to what it sounds like now. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
