Dee Snider Challenges Gene Simmons' Claim
(TeamRock Radio) Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has slammed Gene Simmons' claim that rock is dead. The Kiss star last week described the genre as having been "murdered" by those who refused to invest in the next generation of artists.

Earlier this week opinions on the subject were offered by Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and Poison drummer Rikki Rockett. Now Snider claims the music has a bright future, regardless of business issues.

He says via Facebook: "While I have nothing but respect for Gene, he couldn't be further off the mark. The business model that helped Kiss and my band achieve fame and fortune is most certainly dead - but rock'n'roll is alive and well.

"It's thriving on social media, in the streets, in clubs and concert halls all over the world. And the bands playing it are more genuine than heartfelt than even because they're in it for one reason: the love of rock'n'roll."

Simmons blamed much of the industry's woes on teenagers who think nothing of illegally downloading albums. But Snider puts the blame on "greedy big-city moguls who made their own velvet noose to hang themselves with." Read a lot more here.

The Doors Preview Feast Of Friends Documentary
(hennemusic) The Doors have issued the trailer for their self-produced 1968 documentary, "Feast Of Friends", as a video preview in advance of its release on November 11.

The first and only film produced about The Doors by The Doors offers a cinematic look at the band on the road during their 1968 summer tour. Whilst never truly completed, the film provides a stylistic approach in true sixties cinma vrit style. Concert performances are intercut with fly-on-the-wall footage of the group in their natural habitat, sometimes playful, sensitive, chaotic and touching. Other than a few appearances in film festivals in 1968, an official release would never be seen until now.

The first official release of the documentary also includes a compilation of outtakes called "Feast of Friends: Encore", plus a 1968 British television feature called "The Doors Are Open", as well as a 1967 performance of "The End" filmed for Canadian TV.

Completely restored from the original negative, as supervised by Jim Morrison, "Feast of Friends" has been colour-corrected and cleaned in high definition with the soundtrack remixed and remastered by long-time Doors' collaborator Bruce Botnick.

Singled Out: Peppino D'Agostino's Penumbra
Today acoustic guitar virtuoso Peppino D'Agostino tells us about title track from his brand new album "Penumbra". Here is the story:

I'm kind of a hybrid between a folk musician and a classical musician with everything in between. Since I was a young child I've been studying all kinds of musical styles, from Brazilian to Country and from Irish to World music. In recent years I've been also performing live and in the studio with great rock, blues, fusion, traditional, jazz and classical musicians. Because of these wonderful musical experiences with musicians I respect and admire, my desire of finding connections between musical genres grew stronger.

When I wrote the title track of my new CD Penumbra my intention was to mix two musical styles apparently very distant from each other, Baroque and Minimalism, partially because two of my favorite composers are J.S.Bach and Steve Reich.

On a more philosophical level, the penumbra is the lightish part of the shadow. When light shines on an object it creates a shadow, but if you look carefully at the shadow there is a lighter shadow. To me that reflects the human condition in a way. Most of us are in the penumbra trying to figure out life. Either you fall into the dark or you embrace the light.

During this sometimes difficult life journey, music has been the humanity's great consoler and the compassionate guidance.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
