B Sides for 02/10/2015
The track appears in the movie and is also part of the band's forthcoming covers album. The movie, which also stars Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Danielle Harris and Angelina Armani, is being released on DVD and Blu-Ray today. The band premiered the music video with Loudwire and guitarist Josh Rand shared this background with them, "The song originally appeared on Metal Church's second album as the title track released in 1986. It was chosen for the movie 'Fear Clinic' by director Rob Hall and Corey as they felt that the lyrics fit well with the story. The song was recorded live in about a half day at Room 237 in Burbank, Calif., in March 2014." Watch the new video here.
The rare event saw the pair discuss the Led Zeppelin guitarist's photographic autobiography, "Jimmy Page By Jimmy Page." In the first clip available from the session, Page discusses his early years and musical upbringing with host Cornell in front of a live audience at the Ace Hotel Theater on November 12. The event followed the re-release of Page's book, which sold-out of its limited-edition run of 2,500 copies upon its initial release in 2010 on its way to becoming the fastest-selling book in Genesis Publications' 40-year history. Page and Led Zeppelin continue their extensive reissues series on Febuary 23 (Feb. 24 in North America) with an expanded reissue of their 1975 release, "Physical Graffiti." Check out the video here.
Due April 13 (April 14 in North America), the guitarist is joined on the project by guests including Neil Young, Robert Randolph and the late Jeff Healey. Bachman recently premiered the album's title track, which sees him team up with Peter Frampton. Bachman is joined on the project by new band members Anna Ruddick on bass and drummer Dale Anne Brendon. The guitarist will launch a North American tour in support of "Heavy Blues" on April 2 in St. Charles, IL. See the dates and stream the new song here.
Ad Age reports the tune is one of 15 remixes of Who songs by production agency Mophonics for use in advertising and other licensing opportunities - with the blessing of creator Pete Townshend. "A lot of work went into these, especially because the respect shown by the remixes to the original songs and song shapes," says Townshend. "I know that makes remixing harder, and less fun for them, but a lot of fun for me." "The idea of remixing the songs came about because Pete mentioned to his publisher, Spirit, that he had the original multitrack tapes for most of the band's classic songs," adds Kris Roggemann, creative producer at music-production agency Mophonics. Check out the commercial here.
"Whenever we plan a video for a song, Kie is the first person we turn to," says frontman Mikko von Hertzen. "This is the sixth video he himself has done for the band. This time he had the idea of making a simple band video. He visited countless locations before choosing a beautiful spot on an island, just outside mainland Helsinki. The island itself used to be a fortress in the many wars we as a nation have suffered. "The song New Day Rising is about leaving a place for good in search for happiness and a more fulfilling life. The boats floating by are actually going to different countries; Sweden and Estonia. They are also places where many Finnish people go to let out some steam and party. In essence, the boats you see on the video give the illusion of a better life. In fact these boats never stop going back and forth. As we humans often do." Watch the video here.
"War Of Kings is the album we always wanted to make, ever since we were kids listening to bands like Zeppelin, Purple and Sabbath," says Europe's Joey Tempest. "And after hearing Dave Cobb amazing production for Rival Sons we simply had to work with him. Our adventure is still ON! It's taken 10 years and countless tours since the re-union, but we're finally getting there! And we've done it our way!" War Of Kings will be released in the UK on March 2 and in the US on March 10. These days, relations seem a bit chilly between former Led Zeppelin bandmates Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. That may be because while Page has made it known that he would have loved to reactivate Led Zeppelin after their triumphant 2007 reunion concert, Plant was clear that the show, for him, was always a one-off, and that he had no intent to rejoin the band that made him famous. But back in the day, Page and Plant were pretty tight. During the recording of 1976's Presence, Plant was on the disabled list, moving around with the help of a wheelchair or crutches following a serious car accident in Greece the year before. As anyone who has been unfortunate enough to be on crutches knows, you have to watch the ground, lest your crutch get caught in something and you fall. And, as anyone who has been in a recording studio knows, there are lots of wires and cables on the floor. And so it happened that the legendary frontman took a pretty harsh spill on the studio floor. As Plant recalled in this interview, Page raced from the control room to help him out. "He was like an Olympic athlete! I'd never seen him move so fast in my life!" It's not an image we're used to thinking about. Luckily Max Werkmeister, who animated the video above, helps us visualize it. The good news was, although the fall was painful, Plant didn't re-injure anything, thanks to the fact that he was wearing a cast. And after getting that diagnosis from his doctor, he went right back into the studio, and recorded the epic 10-minute-plus Zeppelin classic, "Achilles Last Stand." If you don't already have Presence in your collection--wait, are you nuts?--don't get it just yet, because later this year, Zeppelin will release an expanded, reamastered version of the album. And speaking of remastered albums, on Feb. 24 they'll reissue the previous album, 1975's Physical Graffiti. Watch the animated clip here.
I wrote "Work" because I work so goddamn hard. That part's probably obvious. I included this list of sh*t I do to drive my point home, but feel free to skip it if you trust me. I built and run a recording studio called DirtyLife Studio in Queens NYC, and have a dozen or so artists who do most of their recordings/mixing/mastering with me. In other words, "I do not stop. I am the Juggernaut." When Tropic brought this track to me, I immediately loved how spazzed-out and turnt up it was. It's relentless, frantic, intense, and most importantly, it's what it feels like inside my ADHD-ass brain. I listen to Tropic's mixes at work at 5am getting ready for students, so his music is already my multi-tasking soundtrack. I wanted this song to be like snorting coke in a racecar. The other important concept for me in this song is AMBITION. We aren't signed to major labels, but we should be. So until we are, we have to be our own label. We have to find a way to take the scraps we have and turn them into massive productions. That's actually the reason behind the setting for the video. We shot it in Bushwick, BK, which is known for having reconverted warehouse spaces where artists throw crazy parties and give up normal lives in the pursuit of art. There was one street in particular where I loved the mix of brilliant graffiti and still-operational warehouses. As a lover of hip-hop culture, I can't get enough street art. Especially since New York, the one time epicenter of street art, is now one of the weakest displays of it (due mostly to the very strict laws and policing). But even as more and more galleries of street art are being demolished or removed (RIP 5 Pointz), Bushwick still flaunts amazing pieces. So, with the (art) work, and the (industrial) work, it was the ideal place to capture the theme. The cameos in the video were a no-brainer. I just reached out to artists who I work with at DirtyLife Studio and a bunch of them came out to support (In other words, "My Net Worth comes from my Network"). They too, are dope artists trying to make a million-dollar hit out of 15 cents (that might as well be the DirtyLife motto). And they all have day jobs. Sam Wise (of Ratchet by Nature) is a server at a restaurant. Apples (also of Ratchet by Nature) is a secretary at a high end art gallery. Jazzy works in website development and artist management. BS is a program advisor at NYU. Tropic is a commercial painter. Crimdella is a youth counselor at a night school program. I told them to wear their work clothes to the shoot. And to bring coffee. You know we put in #WORK. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, watch the video here and grab the mixtape right here!
