Tupac Movie Case Going to Trial
PR reports: Lawyers for Amaru Entertainment scored a major victory against Morgan Creek Productions in the Superior Court for the State of California on Tuesday, September 1, when Judge Richard E. Rico ruled in their favor and upheld Amaru Entertainment's cross-complaint for tortious intentional interference. A trial date has now been set for Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

Skip Miller of Miller Barondess, LLP in Los Angeles, attorney for Amaru Entertainment, said "We are pleased with the court's ruling yesterday morning. It supports our claim that Morgan Creek tortiously interfered with the making of the Tupac Shakur movie. I look forward to trying this case and have the jury decide the matter. Morgan Creek has a history of bullying people into giving them rights they did not acquire. This time, they picked on the wrong people."

The litigation started when Morgan Creek filed suit against Amaru Entertainment in February this year, alleging that the company had "backed out of negotiations" and was currently "refusing to honor and perform a contract of a production for a film based on the life of Tupac Shakur." In actuality, there was never any agreement as key deal terms had never been agreed upon between the parties. This was a scheme by Morgan Creek to bully Amaru Entertainment into doing a movie with them and interfere with Amaru Entertainment's negotiations for the film with other studios. - more on this story

Colbie Caillat Tops The Charts
Reuters reports: "Bubbly" singer Colbie Caillat broke through to the top of the U.S. album chart for the first time on Wednesday, while Miley Cyrus made a surprise showing at No. 3.

"Breakthrough," Caillat's second album, sold 106,000 copies during the week ended August 30, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Caillat's first album, 2007's "Coco," opened at No. 5 with 51,000 and has so far sold 2 million copies in the U.S. It yielded the hit single "Bubbly," which reached the top 10 of the Hot 100.

"You always hope for the best, but you never actually think it's going to happen," Caillat told Billboard.com from England, where she's currently touring. "I never want to get my hopes up. Everyone kept saying, 'I think it's gonna be No. 1. It's gonna be No. 1. It looks like it,' and I just kept trying to ignore it 'cause I didn't want it to not happen. And now that it is happening, I can't believe it." - more on this story

Andy Caldwell Sets Release
PR reports: As a songwriter, producer, classically trained pianist and trumpeter, remixer, DJ and label owner (of the recently re-launched Uno Recordings), LA-based producer Andy Caldwell has thrown his hat into many rings over the course of his 15+ year career. Somehow, after circling the globe several times and playing more than 100 shows a year, Andy Caldwell also found the time to pen Grammy Nominated songs and even once shared the stage with James Brown.

With so many musical reference points to choose from, and during one of the most turbulent periods in our planet's history, Andy Caldwell has shifted towards a tougher sound to match the times. This is Andy Caldwell's Obsession. Andy Caldwell's Obsession is released digitally October 20 and on CD November 3

In a move that's bound to make waves, Caldwell drifts away from the soulful, San Francisco sun-soaked side of house music and instead travels down the road of a tougher, more European inspired sound. - more on this story
