Randy Jackson is Now Simon on American Idol
(Celebuzz) American Idol's top dog, Randy Jackson, is ready to shake things up on the hit talent show. Celebuzz sat down with the only original Idol judge left standing to find out just what the new season has in store following his appearance on MTV's The Seven.

The new season of Idol, which kicks off Jan. 19, sparkles with a number of changes show producers hope will engage loyal Idol disciples and bring in a new generation of fans. Idol contestants will be living together, as they did in earlier seasons, the contestants will be mentored by influential music exec Jimmy Iovine and the age limit was dropped to 15. The show will also feature sudden death elimination rounds and there will no longer be gender separation throughout the competition, which means the most promising talent will move through each round regardless of gender.

Show producers have also traded the condescending snipes and silver-tongued swipes of Simon Cowell and the dazed and confused fancy of Paula Abdul for triple-threat diva Jennifer Lopez and rock icon Steven Tyler. Jackson gushes that the chemistry was automatic: We got along like a house on fire. I admired both of them for a long time, and they all come from the same side of the music that Ryan [Seacrest] and I come from. It's been amazing. They've become great judges. What surprised me a little bit is that they actually really care about these kids. They actually really want them to do well." more on this story

Ariel Aparicio Sets Digital Album Release
Ariel Aparicio will be releasing his new album, Aerials, via digital distribution on March 8, 2011, on Rock Ridge Music.

The sound of Aerials reflects an all-encompassing love of music. "I wanted to make a dance record, but with all guitars," he explains. "I was trying to incorporate all the sounds that I heard when I was first going out to clubs where they didn't just play 'dance music,' but would bring in all these other genres that you can dance to and appeal to everyone."

Aparicio has grown not only as a musician, but also a father, a husband, and a businessman (he co-owns three successful restaurants). He touches on these themes throughout Aerials, while crafting music that reflects that breadth. Aerials moves through pulsating dance rock ("Love Left Bleeding," an epic in three parts modeled after David Bowie's landmark "Station to Station") to intimate ballads ("Flowers"), and juxtaposes churning guitars and shuffling beats a la shoegazer greats like Curve and My Bloody Valentine ("She Can Show Us") with driving Latin rhythms ("Amor Sangrando," a Latin reinvention of "Love Lies Bleeding"). The program also accommodates "Sorry," an older fan favorite about Aparicio coming to terms with his sexuality which features Lisa Germano on vocals more on this story

Nine Lives Musical Adaptation Listening Party
(PR) The Threadhead Records Foundation and Mystery Street Records will hold a special CD listening party to preview the release of "Nine Lives, A Musical Adaptation (Volume 1)" by Paul Sanchez and Colman deKay.

The Nine Lives CD is a musical adaptation of the New York Times bestselling book "Nine Lives" by Dan Baum (New York: Spiegel & Grau, 2009). Nine Lives, is a remarkable oral history of New Orleans in the forty years (1965‐2005) between the twin catastrophes known as Betsy and Katrina, as seen through the eyes of nine of its citizens. The CD includes the first 24 songs imagined for a theatrical production and anticipated to become a Broadway musical.

"The Nine Lives album captures the uniqueness, diversity and rich storylines that everybody can share and enjoy. The music we wrote and produced encompasses traditional New Orleans jazz, rock, funk, chamber music, Mardi Gras Indian chants, 70's soul, hip‐hop, brass band music, rap and blues that comes together beautifully and rises off the pages of the book, and will be unprecedented to the Broadway stage," said Paul Sanchez, singer, songwriter and producer of the album. more on this story
