Tony Bennett Remembers Amy Winehouse
(PR) Tony Bennett, who recorded the classic pop standard "Body And Soul" with Amy Winehouse at Abbey Road Studios in London this past March, made the following statement upon news of her passing:

"Amy Winehouse was an artist of immense proportions and I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing. She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end.

"She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance. I was honored to have the opportunity to sing with her. It had been my sincere hope that she would be able to overcome the issues she was battling and I send my deepest sympathy to her father Mitchell, her entire family and all of those who loved her."

The Bangles Return With New Album
The Bangles have set a September 13th release date for their first album of new material in nearly eight years.

Sweetheart Of The Sun reveals The Bangles--guitarist/singer Susanna Hoffs, guitarist/singer Vicki Peterson and drummer/singer Debbi Peterson--at their equally beguiling extremes, as soaring folk-rock harmonies coexist with adrenalized rave-ups inspired by the band's roots in Nuggets-era garage rock.

"As we were finishing the record," says Vicki, "we started to realize there was a unifying theme--paradise lost in Southern California, the perception juxtaposed with the reality of it." Susanna picks up the thought: "L.A. is like paradise--the sun shines 360 days a year, the flowers are always in bloom--but meanwhile, so many people are walking around alienated, depressed and anxious." more on this story

Arnold Schwarzenegger Files New Response To Maria Shriver Divorce
(TMZ) Arnold Schwarzenegger has just refiled his response to Maria Shriver's divorce petition, and this time he's not trying to deny her spousal support or attorney's fees.

As we first reported, sources connected with Arnold told us ... although he signed his legal response, he never read it and therefore didn't know his lawyer moved to block Maria's bid to get spousal support and her attorney's fees paid by him.

But according to the new docs, Arnold is not asking the judge to block either of Maria's requests.

The misstep caused some problems last week -- especially since Maria was dealing with the serious injury of her son, Christopher, at the time she got slapped with Arnold's papers. more on this story

The Day The Top of Pops Was Killed
(Gibson) "Forty-two years ago I said welcome on the very first Top of the Pops," said Sir Jimmy Savile as he introduced the last-ever edition of the BBC's long running pop music flagship, Top of the Pops.

It was on this day in 2006 when assorted presenters from over the years as well as 200 audience members gathered to film the final show. The BBC had decided some months previously that TOTP could no longer compete with the plethora of 24-hour music channels available to fans. And indeed it was 42 years since Savile welcomed Britain to the program from a dis-used church on Dickenson Road in Manchester. The Beeb didn't expect the program to last more than a few episodes and originally commissioned just six shows. But after audiences saw the first episode, it was obvious that the mix of studio and filmed footage tied to a chart rundown was a winner.

The Rolling Stones kicked off the proceedings in 1964 with "I Wanna Be Your Man," followed by Dusty Springfield crooning "I Only Want to be with You," then the Dave Clark Five with "Glad All Over," the Hollies with "Stay" and the Swinging Blue Jeans doing "Hippy Hippy Shake," all in the studio. On film came Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Freddie and the Dreamers, and finally, The Beatles, with that week's #1, "I Want to Hold Your Hand." more on this story
