The song "Not Getting Any Better" started with a simple beat that was created on the road with a vocal sample repeating "it's not getting any better". Post tour, we brought the beat into our home studio and began turning it into what it is now. This song went through so many changes and different versions. Initially it was going to be split into two separate tracks, but we felt the movement of the whole piece is a direct correlation between the drawn out, overly dramatic emotion of the subject at hand. The song is mainly about a relationship but deals with the idea of not being able to come to grips with anything that comes to a bitter end in life, to the extent where you refuse to accept that it even happened. There are certain things that we can't let go, certain things that get engrained in ourselves that you can't shake. It is said that time heals everything but the recovery process can be an arduous one. The song touches on treating a lost relationship or lost love almost as an addiction you can't cope with - lack of sleep, friends voicing their concern, becoming so overwrought with it that it's literally destroying you. Throughout the track, it progresses and get's more and more intense until the crushing end. Just as it would if you were trying to wean yourself off of any vice you might have. Sometimes, in accepting the fact that it's over, you might feel that it's not getting any better. However, on the upside, you will learn a lot about yourself and your emotions on the journey of letting it go. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
The production, for the first time, is guitar-oriented, rather than keyboard-oriented. Michael McDonald is on hand to give voice to the title character. "This album not only feels like a new chapter to my career," says Cross, "it feels like starting a whole new book." more on this story

"No coincidences!" said Billy Ray Cyrus, speaking Monday from Fort Hood. "In 1989 I wrote a song about a Vietnam veteran. I recorded it in 1991 ... the day the ground war started in Desert Storm. Somehow it did not surprise me that I was in the middle of the largest operating military base in America the moment the news broke of Bin Laden's death. Seeing the sacrifice that our soldiers and their families have made for our FREEDOM, once again reminded me ... ALL GAVE SOME ... AND SOME GAVE ALL." On June 28, Billy Ray Cyrus will release his 12th album I'm American, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of his hit song "Some Gave All" with a newly recorded version featuring Jamey Johnson, Craig Morgan and Darryl Worley. A supporter of the troops for the last two decades, Cyrus has performed at numerous overseas military bases, most recently in Afghanistan and Iraq. The first single from I'm American, "Runway Lights," will be shipped to Country radio next week.
