Singled Out: Philly Chase's You Right Feat Meek Millz and Gillie Da Kid
Today Philly Chase tells us about his new single "You Right" featuring Meek Millz and Gillie Da Kid. Here is the story:

Actually when I first heard the track produced by Chysty I really slept on it, honestly. Sometimes as artists we are so used to hearing different tracks from so many producers that we kind of by pass tracks before getting a feel for them. And that's just what I did, passed right by it, on my discs of a million songs.

Then one day I was just going through instrumentals looking for a hard but club feeling track and I reconnected with this beat again. This time, I really sat and took a listen to it. This time, I zoned out instantly. From the very beginning of the beat it caught me, then by the time that the snare, drums and base line kicked in I had half a verse done already!

That same day I wrote all three verses, most by memory and fine combed it on my iPad. The hardest part of the track was the hook. I mean honestly I was stuck for at least 3 months as far as finding the right hook to go with that beat. So one night lateI mean 3-4am I just kept goin over and over and over the beat trying to find a hook for this beat. Then finally I came up with the "You Right" part at the end of the hook, then from there I went backwards and by the time the sun spread through the blinds in my living room, I had the hook in full. I was super hype, so I hit my homey "The Wiz" up and I spit it to him, and it spread like wild fire. So I had to hit the "Batcave" (the studio I record at in Philly). I took that song and 5 other songs I worked on and recorded all of them in just three hours. And "You Right" was one of my highlight songs.

After listening to it, loving it, and running it into the ground lol, I felt like it still was missing something so I dug deep and asked myself how could I maximize off of this song, and instantly I thought of Meek Millz, so my people contacted his people and a week later he was in the studio with me cutting the track. While we were in the studio listening to the song, Gillie Da Kid came in dancing and repeating the hook. So another light bulb moment occurred and Gillie hopped on and the rest was history!!!!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

Jersey Shore Author Says Forget Snooki, New Jersey Is About The Music
(Gary Wien) How did the State that was home to such great musicians as Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, and Count Basie become synonymous with Snooki? That question rumbled through the mind of award-winning music journalist Gary Wien.

The Jersey Shore native decided to see for himself if New Jersey was still the home of amazing musicians or if it had truly become the freak show appearing on the former music television station.

Between September 2010 and January 2011, Wien listened to over 2,200 albums by New Jersey artists released within the last decade. He listened to the good, the bad, and the very ugly; yet somehow remained a music fan through it all. He describes the Top 100 albums in his new book, Are You Listening?, which is available at http://www.njmusic.org and select bookstores. more on this story
