Coldplay Top The U.S. Chart
(popmusiclife) After setting a digital sales record on the way to a UK no 1, and topping the iTunes chart, Coldplay's new "Mylo Xyloto" has debuted at no 1 on the US Billboard 200 album chart.

The Brit rockers sold 447,000 copies of the new record, making it Coldplay's third straight US chart-topper, and the third biggest sales week for an album this year, behind Lady GaGa's "Born This Way" debut (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" start (964,000).

"Mylo" also earns the biggest week for a rock effort since U2's "No Line On the Horizon" debuted at No. 1 with 484,000 on the chart dated March 21, 2009. more on this story

Lindsay Lohan Sentenced To 30 Days But May Be Jailed Only An Hour
(TMZ) L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca may have led Lindsay Lohan's judge astray, by making a public pronouncement that there is room for Lindsay in his jail, when in fact there isn't.

You'll recall ... during Lindsay's hearing last month, an angry Judge Stephanie Sautner threw up her hands, bemoaning the futility of sentencing misdemeanor offenders to jail. Sautner said because of new laws and overcrowding, the jails can't house people convicted of misdemeanors.

The next day, Baca appeared on FOX 11's "Good Day L.A," (above) proclaiming there is indeed room in his jail for Lindsay -- and telegraphing to the judge that a jail sentence would be meaningful.

But as TMZ first reported, Judge Sautner's 30-day sentence is -- as a practical matter -- a joke, because the Sheriff will release her almost immediately -- possibly in an hour or 2 -- because of overcrowding. It appears Sautner was unaware of the revolving jail door when she handed down her sentence. more on this story

Pamela Anderson To Host Frank Sinatra's Birthday Benefit Event
Pamela Anderson is set to host Frank Sinatra birthday celebrations and gala, A Swingin' Affair!, which will benefit the Alzheimer's Association California Southland Chapter, and takes place Sunday, December 11, 2011.

The event series includes three unique celebrations in one day beginning with an exclusive VIP cocktail party at Sinatra's former home. Performances throughout the event include Frank Sinatra Jr. and his 20-piece orchestra, singer/pianist Daniel Joseph Baker (America's Got Talent), X Factor finalist Phillip Lomax, jazz artists Matt Dusk and Luca Ellis, and actress/Broadway star Lainie Kazan. The gala features a sumptuous three-course dinner, signature cocktails and a star-studded blue carpet in honor of Ol' Blue Eyes.

"This is not your typical gala," says Ricardo Coronado, co-chairman of the event. "This is a lifestyle experience. They say, 'They don't party like they used to.' Well, we do. We are bringing back the decadence of Frank's lifestyle and putting it into three luxurious parties in one day and night, and if guests party like Frank did, the extravaganza could go into the next morning. This is all about honoring Frank's legacy, style, and swagger and helping a great organization in the process." more on this story

Blind Boys of Alabama and William Bell Guest on Ruthie Foster's New Album
Ruthie Foster's will release her new album, Let It Burn, on January 31st which will feature guest appearances by Blind Boys of Alabama, soul legend William Bell, and songs by Adele, Black Keys, Los Lobos, Johnny Cash, The Band, Pete Seeger, Crosby, Stills & Nash and more. Here is the official word:

Those who have followed Ruthie Foster's eclectic musical history know that she can burn down any stage with her combustible blend of soul, blues, rock, folk and gospel. And when Grammy Award-winning producer John Chelew suggested she record an album in New Orleans with support handpicked from the Crescent City's overflowing pool of talent it was an opportunity for Ruthie to infuse fresh spices into her already rich sonic gumbo.

Ruthie's astonishing voice has taken her on an amazing ride. She came from humble church choir beginnings in rural Texas, followed by a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy Band, and ended up in New York City with a major-label development deal that went sour. After she moved back to Texas to care for her ailing mother, Foster took a break from singing professionally for a couple of years. When she resumed her music career in Austin, she became a regular nominee at the Austin Music Awards, winning Best Folk Artist in 2004-05 and Best Female Vocalist in 2007-08. Broadening her sound by blending blues and soul aspects into her folk roots, Ruthie added a Grammy nomination to her list of achievements (Best Contemporary Blues Album for her last studio release, 2009's The Truth According to Ruthie Foster). And, in a nod to her astounding range, she then won seemingly contradictory Blues Music Association awards for both Best Traditional and Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist in back-to-back years. more on this story
