Snoop revealed the story behind his adopted moniker "Snoop Lion" a title change that garnered massive press attention when announced through his social networks last week. The title was given to him by the revered Nyabinghi upon his arrival to the island. The name is derived from the Lion that appears on the Imperial Ethiopian flag and remains an honored symbol of former Ethiopian Emperor Halie Selassie I and the Rastafarians themselves. "I didn't want to be Snoop Dogg on a reggae track...I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn't know that until I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest," said Snoop. "From that moment on, I started to understand why I was there and was able to create something magical in this [Reincarnated] project...something I haven't done before in my career." more on this story

In an homage befitting an American master who had songs on the country charts for nearly half a century, the Buddy Cannon-produced album will be available first on vinyl beginning Sept. 25. Cochran, who died at age 74 in 2010, is considered one of the greatest songwriters in the history of country music. He helped create the template for writing the perfect country song and had an uncanny knack for capturing the gut-wrenching depths of heartache so powerfully, yet so simply. more on this story

We broke the story ... Shifty (real name Seth Binzer) was arrested at the discount clothing store after an employee claims he witnessed Shifty grab his girlfriend by the arm during a heated argument ... and get violent with her. When cops arrived, they searched Shifty -- and claim they found rock cocaine. The former Crazy Town singer was arrested on the scene, and subsequently charged with battery and drug possession. Shifty pled no contest to both charges today. He was sentenced to three years probation for the drug count, and ordered to stay away from his ex for 3 years on the battery count. He was also ordered to attend 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. But the guy's not letting the situation get him down -- in fact, we shot Shifty this Sunday in L.A. and he's completely turning his life around ... telling us, "I'm good. I'm clean. I'm happy." The guy's even gained a few pounds, adding, "I'm eating. It happens when you stop doing drugs." more on this story
22-year-old Carli Richards -- whom Holmes shot in the back with a shotgun -- tells TMZ, "I think death by firing squad would be totally justified ... Just injecting him is painless." She says, "I had enough needles in me that night to know that a needle isn't that bad. I want him to see what it feels like ... I wish someone would shoot him and let him bleed out." She adds, "He shot me with stuff they use to shoot birds and deer. I want him to feel what it's like to feel that helpless." Thankfully, Carli and her boyfriend made it to safety before Holmes could kill them -- but Carli says she's still in a lot of pain, and can't go back to work yet with her current injuries. Carli is the second person affected by the massacre to call for Holmes' death. TMZ broke the story yesterday, the husband of a woman killed in the shooting also demanded the death penalty. It's worth nothing because prosecutors have said they will only consider pursuing the death penalty with support from the victims' families. Holmes was charged Monday with 142 crimes stemming from the Colorado shooting -- including 24 1st degree murder counts, and 116 counts of attempted murder. If he's found guilty of 1st degree murder, he faces the death penalty by lethal injection. more on this story

Katherine's attorney, Perry Sanders, told TMZ last week that TJ and Katherine will file a request for JOINT GUARDIANSHIP with the court... and they expect it will be approved. Perry tells us, "That pleading will essentially now legally reflect how Mrs. Jackson and TJ have often shared responsibilities of raising the children since Michael Jackson's tragic passing." Katherine's lawyer says the new arrangement "reflected the wishes of [Michael Jackson's] children" ... Paris, Prince and Blanket. If the court grants the joint request, Katherine's lawyer says TJ will be able to assume a lot of the day-to-day responsibilities that have been stressing Katherine out ... including management of household personnel and security. "It will also make clear for school personnel and anyone else coming into contact with the children that TJ is authorized to act on their behalf," Perry tells TMZ. "Mrs. Jackson will then be freed up to focus on the more personal everyday decision making related to the lives and activities of the children." Katherine's lawyer says the agreement would still empower Katherine to CONTROL THE FAMILY'S ALLOWANCE ... which is $70k per month. The arrangement also seems to make TJ a shoo-in to become the SOLE guardian of the children if Katherine dies while they are still minors. Katherine's lawyer concludes, "Mrs. Jackson is extremely pleased with the prospect of enjoying the pleasure of raising Michael's children without the day to day tedium of items such as managing the large staff that goes with such a high profile family and focus her attention on being a grandmother and raising Michael's children." more on this story
When the "Basketball Wives" star got married in early July, she changed her last name to Ochocino to match her NFL star husband, Chad Ochocinco. A few weeks later, Chad went ahead with his pre-planned move to switch his name back to Johnson and Evelyn planned to change her name to Johnson as well, post-wedding. Unfortunately, we're told Lozada has not received her official marriage paperwork yet ... and she can't legally change her name to match his until it comes in. To make things even more complicated ... our sources say Chad still wants Ocho to be part of his life, so he's adding the Ochocinco BACK to his name (before the "Johnson") after the football season. After all the name-changing is said and done, he's going to be "Chad Javon Ochocinco Johnson" and in a show of support, Evelyn will become "Evelyn Alexandra Lozada Ochocinco Johnson." Wow. Good luck naming your kids, guys. more on this story
The dates begin October 1st at West Hollywood's legendary Troubadour and then continue through early November. The upcoming tour which heralds Wolf Gang's debut album, "Suego Faults" comes hot on the heels of the band's recent run of U.S. arenas supporting Coldplay. "We had the most amazing time," says Wolf Gang's Max McElligott of the Coldplay trek. "It really exceeded our expectation of how it would be, which was already pretty high! I genuinely think that the crowds we played to enjoyed our set, we had a really positive response on our Twitter and Facebook, and each night we would go and do a meet-and-greet for whoever wanted to come and say hi, we were kind of taken aback at how many people turned up each night!" more on this story
