The Mark Ronson-produced album will be supported with appearances around the world, including select U.S. live concerts confirmed for May. 2012 is an exciting one in the career of the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter. Sources connected to the show tell us ... producers are considering using the mutiny as a story point. NBC is still refusing to comment on the situation. more on this story
n the history of rock and roll, there are legions of songs penned by one musician in tribute to another. One of the most famous is Don McLean's "American Pie," which honored late rock greats Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died. Almost as famous as that tune was a song written about McLean, "Killing Me Softly with His Song," which became a #1 hit for soul singer Roberta Flack on this day in 1973. But it wasn't Flack who wrote the song. In fact, she wasn't even the first singer to record it. The idea for the song (or at least the title phrase) came to co-writer Norman Gimbel a few years before anyone even knew who McLean was. He explained the initial inspiration in a book titled The Craft of Lyric Writing. "I came to California in the mid-'60s. I was introduced to the Argentinean-born composer named Lalo Schifrin (then of Mission Impossible fame). I ended up writing songs to a number of his motion pictures," he said. "I suggested we write a Broadway musical together. He gave me an Argentinean novel translated into English from the Spanish to read as a possible idea. Suffice it to say, we never made a musical from the book but in one of the chapters, the principal character describes himself as sitting alone in a bar drinking and listening to an American pianist 'killing me softly with his blues.'" more on this story
Nassif -- a cosmetic surgeon who is married to "Housewives" star Adrienne Maloof -- performed all sorts of schnoz work on Roman Melikov. Mr. Melikov didn't like the results, to say the least. According to the police report, Nassif claims Melikov incessantly called his office, demanding to speak with him and threatening, "If I don't get to f**king talk to Dr. Nassif, I will just show up and f**king wait for him to talk to me because he needs to f**king pay for this!" And Melikov left voicemails for Nassif, referring to himself as a "psycho." Melikov also said he would come to Bev Hills to "have Nassif's wife help him out of pity." Nassif's employees fear Melikov is mentally unstable and could come to the office "and do something crazy." Nassif wants a restraining order, keeping Melikov away from him and his family. As for Melikov, he wants a $26,000 refund. We spoke with Melikov, who told us Nassif screwed up his nose. The swelling didn't go down for 2 years. And the 25-year-old businessman tells us his nose is now bigger and ugly. more on this story
Shaunie -- the executive producer of VH1's "Basketball Wives" -- was leaving MyStudio last night when we asked about the photo of Kobe and Vanessa kissing after a recent Lakers game. "I think it's wonderful ... too much energy to be angry ... some situations are worse than others, but I love it." TMZ broke the story ... Vanessa filed for divorce back in December ... but we're told Kobe is trying like hell to win her back. Shaunie has spent A LOT of time around the Bryants over the years ... especially Vanessa ... since Shaq spent 8 years as Kobe's teammate on the L.A. Lakers. more on this story
Bosh -- who is slated to play in the All-Star Game Sunday in Orlando -- will be in an Orlando family court first thing Monday morning, asking a judge to either force Allison Mathis to give him "meaningful time" with his 3-year-old daughter or hold Mathis in contempt for denying him that. According to the docs, Mathis is supposed to hand the child over to Chris 12 days a month, but it hasn't happened ... not even close. From one court to another ... more on this story
TMZ broke the story ... the treatment center where Lohan is seeking court-ordered counseling told Michael to get a job to help transition back into normal functioning society. (Reminder: Mike was ordered to complete treatment as part of his plea deal in his domestic violence case) Mike had initially applied to BK ... but he's since found a better gig with the WiLD 95.5 radio station in Palm Beach, FL. We're told Mike will primarily take on the grunt work ... but we wouldn't be surprised if they featured him on air from time to time. The pay isn't bad either -- $8.25 an hour ... 50 cents more than he would've made at Burger King. But he won't be spending it all in one place ... or at all ... 'cause we're told MiLo is planning to donate his entire paycheck to charity. more on this story
Nicole Alvarez filed a declaration of support for Murray today ... in which she says if Murray is released he will live with her and their 2-year-old son in Santa Monica. It's not the most powerful or emotional letter. Alvarez says, "Dr. Murray is the father of my child" -- and adds ... he "has been our primary source of support." It's unclear how much support Murray can provide now -- considering his medical license has been revoked. Murray's hearing for bail pending appeal of his manslaughter conviction is scheduled for tomorrow morning in downtown L.A. more on this story
Pastor Marvin Winans flew into LAX yesterday ... and when we asked about Bobby getting booted from the funeral he said, "What I know is, Bobby did really love Whitney -- and Whitney really loved Bobby." Law enforcement sources tell us, the Indiana judge in her drug case is going to release Amber today for one reason and one reason only -- the halfway house where Amber was supposed to complete a drug treatment program has refused to accept her. According to sources, people at the transitional home -- called Sister 2 Sister Ministries -- felt Portwood is too much of a handful and embodies too much negative energy to benefit from its program. Since no one else wants her -- the judge decided to release her today ... with an electronic monitoring bracelet. But Amber's not out of the woods -- we're told the judge will still require her to apply for residency at another home ... but that process could take months. Amber will remain on home detention until a different drug treatment program accepts her. more on this story
