Andy Griffith Dead at 86
(TMZ) TV icon Andy Griffith is dead at the age of 86 ... this according to Andy's close friend, former UNC President Bill Friday.

Griffith, who became famous for "The Andy Griffith Show," passed away at his home in Manteo, North Carolina this morning. Friday broke the news to WITN news in North Carolina.

In addition to starring in his show and the subsequent "Mayberry R.F.D.," Griffith was a Grammy award-winning southern gospel singer. Of course, Griffith also starred in the long-running series, "Matlock" and often made guest appearances in other shows, including "Dawson's Creek."

There's a famous statue of Andy and Opie -- played by Ron Howard -- in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Griffith was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2005. more on this story

Nude Photos Are Not Carly Rae Jepsen
(TMZ) "Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen is not the woman in the racy photos which surfaced online this week.

A rep for Carly tells TMZ, "This is 200% NOT Carly" in the photos. As for anyone claiming it is -- the rep says Carly's record label is currently handling any potential cease-and-desist cases.

FYI -- the actual girl in the photos is some 21-year-old Internet model named Destiny Benedict. more on this story

Katie Holmes Replaces Security Team Linked To Tom Cruise
(TMZ) Katie Holmes has fired her old security team because they were way too close to Tom Cruise ... TMZ has learned.

The team -- made up of a bodyguard and driver -- worked for Tom for years, before Tom even met Katie ... and when he and Katie hooked up, Tom assigned the duo to Katie full-time.

The security team worked directly for Katie for years -- but this week Katie appeared with a new security detail made up of 5-6 bodyguards. Neither the old bodyguard nor the driver was anywhere in sight.

Sources connected to the actress tell us, Katie let the old team go after filing for divorce last week -- because of their allegiance to Tom. It's unclear if the duo were Scientologists.

The last time Katie was seen with her old security team was last Tuesday. Katie filed for divorce on Thursday. more on this story

Usher Stalker 911 Call Goes Online
(TMZ) Usher Raymond personally called 911 to warn authorities about a delusional female fan who was trespassing at his Georgia home on June 24 ... and TMZ has obtained the 911 tape.

During the call, Usher can be heard whispering to the operator ... most likely so the woman outside his home couldn't hear him.

Usher tells the operator, "I don't know this woman ... she rang my doorbell." You can even hear Usher's doorbell ring while he's on the phone.

Usher added, "She's obviously a fan of some sort."

Cops responded to the scene ... and as TMZ first reported, the woman, 26-year-old Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw, told officers she was MARRIED to the pop star.

Cops didn't buy the story ... because USHER'S NOT MARRIED ... and placed Darshelle under arrest.

During the call, Usher also explains it wasn't the first time Darshelle had been to his home. Just the day before, she was escorted off the property after being spotted by U's personal security team. Listen here.

Ron Howard Comments On Happy Days Dispute
(TMZ) Ron Howard thinks his former "Happy Days" co-stars will prevail in their major legal battle with CBS over unpaid merchandising royalties, telling TMZ, he's confident "they'll get what they deserve."

Here's the back story ... a group of Ron's former "HD" castmates sued CBS -- claiming they're owed royalties from the use of their images in merch like DVD packages -- and the case was green lit to go to trial this month.

If the "Happy Days" stars get what they want ... CBS could have to shell out MEGA BUCKS.

TMZ spoke to Ron in Beverly Hills Monday ... the Oscar winner tells us he has no stake in the lawsuit, but still weighed in on the matter, saying in a positive way, "I think they'll get what they deserve." more on this story

Jail Return A Wakeup Call For Prison Break Star
(TMZ) Prison Break star Lane Garrison walked out of jail last week after two months behind bars ... and if there was one sentiment he wanted to pass on, it was, "You don't ever wanna go in this place."

As TMZ first reported, Garrison posted $50,000 bail on Friday after being locked up since April 22 for allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Mattingley.

Garrison wouldn't comment on the case as he made his way out of the joint, except to say, "Everything explodes and gets bigger than its supposed to be."

The former "Prison Break" star -- who served 1.5 years in jail for vehicular manslaughter, did not enjoy his second trip to the hoosegow, saying, "Being back was a quick wakeup call. It puts you back in check." Watch video here.
