Day in Pop Report for 06/19/2012
The girl had been in a coma for a week after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Doctors performed two operations to stop the bleeding when they told her mother to say her goodbyes, according to The Daily Mail. As the mother approached her daughter's bedside, a song her and her daughter would sing together came on the radio. When the mother began singing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," her daughter began to smile and within two days was speaking and was even able to get out of her hospital bed. "Charlotte started smiling and I couldn't believe it," the mother said. "It was the first time she had reacted to anything since the hemorrhage. The nurses were astounded and told me to keep singing, and she smiled again. The nurses said it was like I 'unlocked her' and from that day she started getting better and better." TMZ has learned ... Innocent Victim #4, Vladimira Brace, has lawyered up -- claiming she suffered a spinal injury when she was trampled in the melee that ensued inside W.i.P. nightclub in NYC on June 13. Brace's attorney has already fired off a letter to Drake's reps ... saying point blank, "Your client instigated a brawl with Mr. Chris Brown" ... and adds, "[Drake's] actions were reckless and negligent in inflaming a violent mob." The letter continues, "My client personally observed several members of [Drake's] entourage throwing bottles of champagne with reckless and criminal disregard of the well-being of the innocent bystanders." Brace's attorney, Allan Friedman, claims Drake has a "well documented history" of vulgar, abusive and profane remarks concerning women -- and notes, "It is regrettable that apparently many innocent young women have been severely injured by this incident." 3 other women have also claimed they were injured in the Drake vs. Chris Brown fight ... including a 24-year-old Australian tourist who needed 16 stitches after she was hit by a flying bottle. more on this story
Perry debuted the song on the Billboard Music Awards last month and it will be featured in her new movie, "Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D." Premiering July 5, the 3D documentary was directed by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, both of whom served as producers on Justin Bieber's 2011 3D "Never Say Never," which grossed $73 million in the States alone. Paper Route have toured relentlessly with the likes of Passion Pit and mewithoutyou, won hearts and minds with their debut album Absence (2009) and paid musical tribute to Lou Reed's imperturbable face at South by Southwest. They have even insinuated themselves into pop culture consciousness when their song, "The Music," appeared in the film (500) Days of Summer. The band (Chad Howat on keyboards, piano and programming, J.T. Daly on vocals, keyboards and percussion and Gavin McDonald on drums) have now seen fit to go for broke on the possibility that epic earnestness, lyrical depth, and poetic heft can all coincide within one ridiculously catchy song collection primarily preoccupied withwait for ittragedy, disappointment, and loss. Behold The Peace of Wild Things.
Featured on the band's debut album "Never Trust A Happy Song," "Tongue Tied" has been on the Modern Rock chart for 26 consecutive weeks before taking the top slot, and is already beginning its ascent up the CHR/Top 40 and Billboard Hot 100 charts. "Tongue Tied" was an early favorite of NPR's All Songs Considered and SiriusXM's AltNation, was recently heralded as one of the "Greatest Songs of Summer" by Entertainment Weekly. more on this story
Sources connected with the production tell us ... the insurance company that issued the policy -- which would take a major hit if Lindsay couldn't complete the film -- was extremely reluctant to take the risk. The insurance company set numerous conditions on its coverage, and one of them was banning Lindsay from the roads which have landed her in big trouble multiple times -- DUIs, car accidents, and on and on. Sources tell us ... the honchos producing the movie knew Lindsay was driving in violation of the policy, but it appears no one cared -- that is until Lindsay crashed a Porsche on Pacific Coast Highway, with a production SUV following right behind her. As for the consequences, we're told so far the insurance company hasn't attempted to cancel the policy or take other action. For its part, the production company has made it clear to Lindsay -- she is NOT to drive for the duration of the filming. more on this story

Produced by Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers & Ra, Ra, Riot), "This Is An Adventure" was recorded in a refurbished barn at Bear Creek Studios in Seattle, WA. "This album is about making your life an adventure and each song on the record has its own part in that," LoPresti says while talking about the album's ideology. "The idea of an adventure -it's ups and downs, and the emotional complexity played a huge role in how we crafted the album. We believe in embracing the life you have, and we poured that sentiment into the record. Hopefully the music creates an atmosphere for someone else's adventure to begin." more on this story

TMZ broke the story ... a woman claimed the star of "The West Wing," "thirtysomething" and "Revenge of the Nerds" groped her in the breast and genital areas while they were kissing, and she felt it was an unwanted touching. Must have been a really bad movie. The L.A. City Attorney has concluded there is insufficient evidence to go forward with the matter, so no charges will be filed. more on this story
TMZ broke the story ... Ortiz had filed a request for a restraining order against Shana Burroughs -- a former friend of his baby mama Jenna Jameson who would allegedly come to his house with all sorts of prescription drugs ... including Xanax and Oxycodone. The Oxycodone is problematic because Tito has said in the past that Jenna has struggled with the drug. Ortiz also claimed Burroughs was stealing stuff from their house and would scare their children. A hearing on the restraining order was set for Friday -- but Tito was a no-show ... so the judge tossed out the case against Burroughs. more on this story
15-year-old 9th grader Dionne Evans just filed a claim for damages with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, demanding a total of $1,010,000 -- $1 mil for pain and suffering, $10,000 for psychological expenses. According to the document filed by legal pitbull Donald Karpel, the teacher committed battery on Evans by slapping her several times on the face on May 22nd ... using a scene from the movie "Bridesmaids" as inspiration. The school now has 45 days to resolve the issue -- by either paying up or settling -- or Evans can file suit, dragging the school district to court. The LAPD is currently conducting a criminal investigation. more on this story
It all went down Saturday at an independent "midget wrestling" show in Virginia ... Puppet jumped off the top rope of the ring onto a table outside the perimeter -- but seriously fudged the landing. Puppet tells TMZ ... he overshot the jump by a few feet and instead of hitting the table, he face-planted into the cement floor ... and knocked himself out cold for almost 3 minutes. We're told he was rushed to a nearby hospital ASAP ... where he was given 8 stitches to fix a gash above his eye. Then doctors gave him some really bad news ... he needs major reconstructive dental surgery to fix all his top teeth. Luckily the docs numbed the pain with morphine ... which Puppet's friends were kind enough to catch on film. Puppet is currently recovering from his surgeries -- and obviously he's not expected to get back in the ring for a couple of weeks. See video here.
If you recall, "BB Wives" co-star Jennifer Williams filed a suit against Crooks -- claiming she suffered emotional distress and mental anguish after being hit upside the head on an episode of the VH1 show. Now Crooks has fired back at the "face-slap" lawsuit -- claiming that Williams brought the slap on herself by the way she behaved. In court docs filed by Crooks' lawyer, Javier Solano, she claims the slap was "caused in whole or in part by the culpable conduct, carelessness, contributory negligence or assumption of risk of [Williams]." In other words, Williams is just as much to blame for getting herself smacked. Crooks also says Williams' injuries are bogus and is asking the judge to dismiss the suit entirely. FYI -- in case you forgot the epic face-slap, you can re-live it here.
