Day in Pop Report for 01/02/2013
California Highway Patrol had pulled over Justin Bieber's white Ferrari for a routine traffic stop on the 405 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Times. Bieber was not in the vehicle, it was being driven by a friend who was instructed by police to pull off the freeway onto Sepulveda Blvd in Los Angeles. The photographer was reportedly following the Ferrari when it was pulled over. The photographer then parked his car, got out and crossed Sepulveda Blvd to take photographs of the traffic stop. As the photographer attempted to cross the street to return to his vehicle he was struck by a car. The photographer was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
The big New Year's news, Kim Kardashian and Kayne West are expecting a baby. Kayne announced the news at his concert in Atlantic City last night and Kim then confirmed by tweeting on today, "It's true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us. Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo" Now we know for sure that pregnancy is involved, Kim and Kanye have been dating for about eight months, it is believed that Kim is expecting a June baby. more on this story
Starpulse has posted video of the brawl at Eden club which begins after the brawl was already underway. Williams appears in the video to be attempting to get away from the fight and eventually escapes into a black SUV. Knight is seen at the end of the video getting into a white SUV and nearly hitting several people while attempting to leave the parking lot. Watch the video here.
Prior to the Times Square performance, the Korean rapper revealed via Twitter that the performance would be "Gangnam finale." "I'm really working hard on a new single right now, and I'm not saying ['Gangnam'] is ending on 'Dick Clark' - I still have a lot of invitations to perform it ... I'll be in Paris, and in February I got invited to perform in China, and I've still got to do promo," he said, according to Billboard. "So let me say that in America I need a new single because 'Gangnam Style' got too popular, so I've got to write a new single." Watch it here.
The Sun ran several quotes from Womack about the diagnosis. "The doctor says there are signs of Alzheimer's, it's not bad yet but will get worse," he said. The 68-year-old singer says he has been struggling with his memory. "How can I not remember songs I wrote? It's frustrating. "I don't feel together yet. The pop star and Pepsi have teamed up in a promotion that invites fans to submit photographs of them is specific "poses" which may be selected to be part of the introduction video for Beyonce's performance. A special website has been set up by Pepsi here where fans can see the poses and submit their photos. Hundreds of photos uploaded with the hashtag #PepsiHalftime will be used in the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show introduction during the CBS telecast on February 3, 2013. more on this story
Sales of 21 have pushed the album past Oasis' (What's The Story) Morning Glory? and only 500,000 more copies need to be sold for the album to overtake the current third place album by Abba. 21 has now sold 4,562,000 copies, according to BBC and it surpassed the UK sales records for Michael Jackson's Thriller and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in 2012.
