Day in Pop Report for 01/17/2013
When it came to making "Skyfall," the singer said it was bit easier than writing her own songs, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Normally, I write about my misery, and this time, I wrote about someone's script." While she was ecstatic about her win, she admitted to Us Weekly being a part of this latest movie almost didn't happen, explaining that her baby bump almost got in the way of her recording the award-winning theme. "I had a huge weird strange bizarre year with my album 21 that just shot me to beyond fame, it was ridiculous and I was pregnant!" she explained. "I had my child about two weeks before the film came out. So it was bad timing!" And what about motherhood?
TMZ posted the video and revealed these details: It all went down at a private event space in Hollywood -- the DJ leaned over his birthday cake to blow out the candles ... and boom ... fireworks. Luckily, someone at the party noticed before serious damage was done, and Skrillex -- real name Sonny Moore -- was able to extinguish the flames. Skrillex laughed the whole thing off -- before eating his enormous turntable-shaped birthday cake. Watch the video here.
TMZ reports that Britney was in serious negotiations with one of the Caesars properties to perform several nights a week on a regular basis, as well as make regular appearances at several clubs and pool events. Since their original report there have reportedly been two other properties that now want to make a deal with Spears. And the dollar amounts associated with the reported deals are enormous. Read about those at TMZ.
Combining footage from their sold-out Madison Square Garden show last month as well as their sold-out World Tour in the UK, the filming will begin this weekend in Tokyo. A video for the Judy Garland classic, which was recorded at the home studio of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, shows the kids preparing for the song with their music teacher, Sabrina Post. "We are here to give that as a gift to so many who live around us to move forward," Post tells the students. "And to keep memories alive." Read more and watch the video here.
Ryan himself recently told Celebuzz that while living in Florida during his days on The Mickey Mouse Club he lived in an apartment complex with "that guy A.J. [McLean] from the Backstreet Boys." "They were just forming that band, so he was saying how big they were going to be and he had a poster of them in his house," he explained. But, Ryan was skeptical of A.J.'s claims that they were going to be the next big thing. "Didn't they already do this with the New Kids?" he remembers telling a young A.J. "You're a little late." more on this story
"I don't want to put anything out that I feel like is something I don't love," he told fans, teasing his new track with a countdown clock on his Website. The clock came to reveal his new song "Suit & Tie" featuring Jay-Z and Justin's familiar falsetto. Upon release, the track went to No. 1 on iTunes and had music fans and critics alike talking about the song. If you've already downloaded the track and don't have all the words memorized just yet have no fear as Justin released a lyric video to help you sing along. Check it out here.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the story follows a street racer (Aaron Paul) who was framed for a murder and finds his revenge in a Coast-to-Coast race. Cudi, who hit the small screen as a major character in HBO's How to Make it In America, will play a member of the crew. more on this story
As we previously reported, Dierks posted notice of his missing friend across social media (Facebook and Twitter), and friends and fans took immediate action some simply retweeted the news, others who were more local literally took to the streets to help in the search. Jake was eventually found at a busy in intersection. The woman who picked him up, says Dierks, "heard through social media that Jake had been missing and returned him." Dierks was, as you'd imagine, deeply grateful for the fast, widespread response. So much so in fact that he posted a video thanking everyone for all the effort. Watch it here.
While she was certain of her career in music long before she auditioned for the show, she explained that it was American Idol that helped carve her path. "I have a lot of faith in my destiny and I've always really thought that this was in the cards for me and I wasn't going to stop until I got here, living in a musical household like I did," she told Radio.com last year at Lollapalooza. "Either way I would like to try whatever it took to get there but American Idol was such an amazing platform and outlet for me and I didn't know if it would work." Haley said even if she never placed on American Idol she would still have tried her best to leave her mark on the music industry. "At times I brought a lot of classic rock to the plate. The fact that I had a lot of listeners who were digging it is amazing!" Read more and stream the interview here.
I got gold was inspired by my father and the musical he recently finished about gold mining in Colorado called Billy Baloo. In recording the song I was imagining a steamboat rolling down the Mississippi like the one I rode on when I was 15. I still remember the drummer in the Jazz band that was playing on it. I'm still trying to match that rhythm. Anyway, hope you enjoy the song. I did finally get a pickup truck after writing it, but I sold it to buy a school bus. So it goes.' Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the official video here and then learn more about the Willie and grab his tour dates right here!
TMZ reports that Bain family sources tell them that the actor died Monday night at a retirement home in Livermore, CA from natural causes. They spoke with Bain's daughter Jennifer who told them, "He was an amazing person. He was a lot like Mr. Drummond, but much more interesting in real life. He was an amazing father." The new album will be released on standard CD format, as well as in a deluxe edition with media book and bonus DVD and in vinyl format with limited edition die cut sleeve on heavyweight vinyl, as a limited edition deluxe tin boxset, as well as digitally. The album was written, recorded, produced and mixed by OMD's Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. McCluskey says of the album; "The overarching feel tends to be a sense of loss, of melancholia, that things haven't turned out the way you wanted them to, whether it be with technology or personal relationships." The original four-piece - Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Malcolm Holmes and Martin Cooper - will be reunited once again this spring for a 35th anniversary tour. more on this story
Along with the original studio album, the reissue will also includethe original 'lost' band sessions recording, a selection of bonus tracks and the Derek Jarman directed short film of 'Witches Song', 'The Ballad of Lucy Jordan' and 'Broken English'. We were sent the following background information: On its release in late '79 'Broken English' was an instant critical and commercial success bringing Marianne a new image, an international following, a Grammy nomination and the confidence to record more of her own compositions. The beautiful blonde muse, the wistful teenager who whispered of tears going by, was reborn. The Marianne who roared out of the traps on 'Broken English' was a different animal altogether: wild, and feral, with a voice ravaged by experience and betrayal. There have been few comebacks as startling as this, few records as unexpected as this "I thought I was going to die, that this was my last chance to make a record. It's this sense, that "f**king hell, before I die, I'm going to show you bastards who I am." In his original Rolling Stone review of the album, Greil Marcus called Marianne's album "a perfectly intentional, controlled, unique statement about fury, defeat and rancour. It isn't anything we've heard before from anyone. As far as Faithfull goes, there is a gutsiness here, a sense of craft and a disruptive intelligence that nothing in her old records remotely suggested. 'Broken English' is a triumph". Looking back, Mojo called the album an "emotional fireball Marianne had been to Hell and back, and knew the value of life. 'Broken English' has the songs to prove it". Unsurprisingly Marianne said that making the album was "sort of like therapy" and undoubtedly with 'Broken English', Marianne Faithfull was finally able to abandon the past and look forward to the future. more on this story

Arnold, "Things are going well, and I have to credit my wife who has been terrific in keeping everything together. Arnold and his wife Maria Shriver separated in May 2011, but have not divorced. Mario asked the former Governor, "Would you say Maria is the love of your life?" Arnold, "Oh yes, absolutely." Mario went on to ask Arnold about his book, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, "In your book you were very forthcoming about mistakes you made, what do you wish you could have approached differently or handled?"
