The title track from her forthcoming album, "PrizeFighter" features Kelly Clarkson and will impact at country radio on Sept. 15. An empowering ballad about not giving up, the piano-based track has Yearwood encouraging us all to keep going and face fear in the eye. "I love how 'PrizeFighter' makes me feel like even when the odds are against me, I can do anything," Yearwood said in a press release. "It's a message we all need to hear, and the track just plain rocks! I can't wait for folks to hear it." While a release date for her album remains to be announced, Yearwood will be giving fans a preview of that music this fall as she'll be a part of Brooks' world tour with her longtime backing band. "I can't even find the right words to express how excited I am to be releasing new music," Yearwood said. "I chose the title PrizeFighter because it feels like an anthem for all of us. It's about fighting for what you believe in, and never giving up, even when it's hard. It's a message we all need to hear. I'm so looking forward to working with the amazing staff at Sony. Music is what feeds my soul, and I'm grateful to them for giving me the chance to share what I love." Check out the song here.
The trio, who will be performing "Remission" at the charitable event, swap verses in the uplifting song about beating the odds. "If I had a dollar / For every time they counted me out / And my back was up against the wall / I could have died but I came out fighting," Hudson belts at the chorus, keeping her lyrics vague enough to apply to a variety of situations. Common, meanwhile, takes a more personal approach on the song, addressing his father's struggle with prostate cancer: "My dad say he got it in his prostate / When I went to see him, he done lost weight / Trying to find the words in a lost state." "NBC announced recently they're planning a live televised production of the musical Peter Pan, and what's interesting about that is Peter Pan will be played by the very talented Allison Williams, who is a woman, she's on the HBO show Girls," Kimmel said. "That's great, but tonight I have the honor of announcing that my network, ABC, has decided to top them. On Nov. 3, we will be having a live production of the musical Annie, and here tonight to give us a sneak preview, the actor who will be playing the lead role of little orphan Annie - please welcome Mr. Ed Sheeran!" Sheeran then walked onto the stage dressed as Annie from head to toe in her famous red dress, socks and black flats. As he opened his mouth to sing "Tomorrow," he quickly changed his mind. "Jimmy I can't do this, I'm sorry. Come on, Sandy," he said as he dragged Sandy, a stuffed dog on a skateboard, off the stage. "Annie is furrier than Sandy it turns out," Kimmel joked. Watch it here.
The rapper also posted bail for five other people in his entourage who were arrested in suspicion of possessing an assault riffle, according to Steve Carless, president of Jeezy's label CTE and A&R at Atlantic Records, Billboard reports. "Young Jeezy has posted bail for all six people [that were arrested]. He will be released tonight in the next hour or so," Carless told Billboard last night, contrary to reports that Jeezy would be staying behind bars for awhile. More here.
He turned himself in after news surfaced that Helt, an aspiring model, had an arrest warrant in his home state following a probation violation, reportedly for "failing to take a drug test, failing to report to his probation officer, breaching his curfew, not finishing his community service hours and more," according to court documents. He was previously arrested in Salem, Ore., on charges of criminal trespassing and criminal mischief, plus an additional burglary charge in 2010. Cyrus brought him to the VMAs to raise awareness of homeless youth in America. The 22-year-old accepted her award for video of the year for "Wrecking Ball," accepting the honor on "behalf of 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth who are starving lost and scared right now. I know this because I am one of these people." More here.
For the first time in three years, the "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" performers will be hitting American soil with a select run of dates. The band is expected to release an album later this year or early in 2015. Among the announced dates will be a stop in Portland for the first ever Pabst Music Festival, along with Modest Mouse, GZA and more. Other stops on the scheduled tour include Austin, L.A., Oakland, and, uh, Oklahoma. Maybe they just like things starting with the sound "oak?" Check out the dates here.
The sexy video showcases a girl in a bathtub surrounded by candles. She then walks down the stairs to join her man on the couch who's playing guitar and "sippin' on some cold Jack Daniels." Things eventually heat up between the two in the bedroom while Aldean is shown performing the song, fittingly surrounded by burning flames. Directed by Wes Edwards and shot in Nashville, Tenn., earlier this month, the fiery video features a signature live performance from Aldean and his longtime band. More here.
In the photo Smith posted on Instagram, Riff Raff is cut out of the image except for his knee and a couple fingers with what looks like a ring with a seahorse on it. Riff Raff did not take too kindly to this, responding via tweet: "THANKS FOR CUTTiNG ME OUT OF THE PiCTURE U CHUBBY LiTTLE F*** FACTORY." As if that wasn't enough, he added, "P.S. YOUR FACE iS SUPER HUGE." But the story doesn't end there. Read more here.
In "Jay Leno's Garage: The Ultimate Car Week," which aired Sunday on CNBC, the comedian explained, "We went to Pebble Beach. Pebble Beach is the Super Bowl for cars... we got a little bit of the financial side of it are cars good investments? Then showed some of the old cars had some fun with the cars, showed some new things being introduced. It was a lot of fun, I'm excited about it." As for "The Tonight Show," Leno gave a big thumbs up to his successor Jimmy Fallon. "I got out at the exactly the right time. I'm real proud of Jimmy. He's doing a great job and that's the key. Everyone's who left 'The Tonight Show' left when it was number one. And every host brings their own thing. He's taking it into the viral age and uses all the social media, and I think it's very clever what he does." When asked if he would make a return to TV full time, Leno said, "Let's hope not I'm on TV now. I do some stuff on Jimmy's show, did a 'Last Comic Standing' thing the other day. I like what I'm doing now, it's fun to do. I like to use Johnny [Carson]'s model when Johnny stepped down from the 'Tonight Show,' he still did things on TV." Jay also remembered his friend and fellow comic Robin Williams. "He was a good friend. The rest of the world lost a great comedian, I lost a friend and that's really the toughest part." More here.
Backstage, Ian talking to Terri Seymour as Nikki quietly looked on, Ian not revealing details about their relationship, only saying, "I couldn't be happier if I tried," our cameras catching them sharing a sweet kiss. Ian is also back at work for Season 6 of "Vampire Diaries." He recently tweeted a photo of him from the set... covered in blood. He quipped, "I forgot how sharp those teeth are, those things are serious." As for what's next for his character, Damon, Somerhalder said, "He just wants to get back home It's funny because it's not just about Elena any more. It's about his brother too." More here.
The song Beauty Queen is simply about any small town girl who ever wanted more, who one day stopped, looked around and said to herself, "I gotta get outta this place." In the same vein as the film The Last Picture Show, the central character finds herself stuck, wanting to break free of the past and a life she sees as a dead end road. It's homage to those with big dreams, for those who won't take no for an answer and for those who aren't afraid of change. Most people fear change, and let's face it, change is scary, but that's what makes life so interesting to me. Beauty Queen also touches on the old adage that looks can be deceiving. Most things in life are an illusion, and looks are definitely one of those things. I feel that there is way too much emphasis put on physical perfection in our society. Almost every picture that we see now has been photo shopped and it has given young girls a warped sense of what they should look like; intelligence, integrity and personal achievement are where the emphasis should lie. This song speaks to that when the main character says "There's more beneath the surface of this beauty queen, don't let my looks deceive you, I wear a dagger up my sleeve." Now, she's not REALLY wearing a dagger up her sleeve, the dagger is a meant to stand for her intelligence, which is the key to a better life for her. Empowerment is a reoccurring theme in many of my songs. I understand that so many of us feel lost and alone at times, feeling helpless to change the situations that we are in. I would like to be a voice for young girls who feel they have none, and I would like my songs to resonate with people and to touch them in some small way. Art in whatever form it may take is a tool for self-expression. I am blessed to be able to express myself through song I loved singing this song because it took me out of my comfort zone. I'm basically a very shy, sweet person, and Beauty Queen is about a girl who is manipulative, deceitful and very outspoken (not exactly me!). But that's one of the things that I love most about singing and performing, it allows me to expose a different side of myself, to pretend, to play dress up if you will. I am a girl after all! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about April right here!
