Love Vs. Durst
Looks like a new feud is brewing, this time it's between the two most respected people in rock. Courtney has fired the first shot and we are sure to hear from Fred in the coming days on this.

MTV reports: Former HOLE frontwoman Courtney Love takes on LIMP BIZKIT singer Fred Durst in the first single from her upcoming solo album, "America's Sweetheart", according to MTV.com. The track, entitled "Mono" (now available for download on her web site, www.courtneylove.com), is a murder fantasy seemingly justified by the sexual assaults at Woodstock that took place during LIMP BIZKIT's set: "Now he's gone/ I smashed his tires, I bled his brakes/ It had to be done ... You merciless villain/ We drowned them all in their swimming pools." . Click Here for the Full Story

Velvet Revolver Set Date
Blabbermouth: VELVET REVOLVER, the much buzzed-about rock group featuring ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist Scott Weiland, former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Dave Kushner from Dave Navarro's (JANE'S ADDICTION) band, have set "Comrades" as the working title for their much-anticipated debut, tentatively due on April 27 through RCA Records.

The album, which was produced by Josh Abraham (LIMP BIZKIT, STAIND) and mixed by Andy Wallace (NIRVANA, WHITE ZOMBIE, LINKIN PARK, SLAYER, SEPULTURA), is scheduled to be mastered this Friday (Dec. 19) in New York City. The mastering session will be attended by the entire band minus Weiland, who is currently completing a six-month residential drug rehabilitation program in Pasadena, Ca. . Coldplay Wipeout
Us Weekly reports Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is in pain after a surfing accident that happened while honeymooning with his wife Gwyneth Paltrow in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The incident occurred at La Roca beach near the posh Esperanza hotel, where the pair have been staying. Paltrow, who witnessed the accident, drove her hubby back to the hotel where a doctor decided the injury was serious enough to require stitches. A bellhop drove the duo to a clinic, where the rocker received three stitches in his thigh while Paltrow posed for photos with the surgical staff. The stitches are due to come out in less than three weeks, and the singer's spokesman says he'll likely be back on a surfboard ''very soon.''. -Click Here for the Full Story

Metal Student Suspension X 2
From Blabbermouth: Charles Crumm of The Daily Oakland Press is reporting that a second Michigan high school student has been suspended for distributing flyers at school promoting a local heavy metal band.

Ashley Vestrand, a senior at Oxford High School, was suspended when she showed up at school Monday (Dec. 15), her parents said.

"She asked about her constitutional rights of free speech, and they said on school grounds she has no constitutional rights," said her father, Joe Vestrand.

Another student was suspended Thursday (Dec. 11) for passing out flyers on behalf of the local band DRAHNER and was given a two-day suspension. Ashley's suspension is the same, allowing her to return to school Wednesday.

Ashley was quoted in a Saturday story in The Daily Oakland Press as saying that she also had passed out flyers for the band and saw nothing wrong with doing so.

School officials maintain the flyer is inappropriate. It shows a clothed woman sitting on a tongue in front of an open mouth promoting a concert at the end of the month. .-Click Here for the Full Story

Rock Charts
From Launch: The Offspring and Hoobastank had the week's highest rock debuts, with the Offspring's "Splinter" opening at 30, while Hoobastank's "The Reason" checked in at 45. (For those keeping score at home, the Offspring originally intended to usurp the title of Guns N' Roses forever-in-the-works album Chinese Democracy, but the O.C. punks went with Splinter at the last moment. Says Offspring guitarist Noodles, "It's a stupid title, and we felt we took the joke as far as was prudent.")  .Click Here for the Full Story

Beatles Non-Reunion
Follow up to a story from yesterday this one courtesy of Gil Kaufman over at RS: The Internet site momentsintime.com is auctioning an erased tape from what it claims was a secret Beatles reunion. The acetate, which features five hand-written song titles, is alleged to have been recorded at Los Angeles' Davlen Studios on November 2, 1976.

The site's curator, Gary J. Zimet -- who is also currently offering the copy of Double Fantasy John Lennon signed for his killer, Marc David Chapman, for $525,000 -- says that Davlen owner Len Kovner told him that the session ended in an argument, after which the members stormed out. He also said that Beatles producer George Martin was present.

Beatles/Apple Records spokesperson Geoff Baker scoffs at the claims: "The whole thing is bollocks. What reunion? What tape? I've never heard of these songs, and I've never heard of any reunion."

Bruce Spizer, author of several books on the Beatles, also doubts the session ever took place. "I've never come across anything to indicate that the four of them and George Martin walked into a studio at any time," Spizer said. "What are the odds of them coming together and no one finding out or reporting on it? If something like this happened, it would have leaked out at some point."

Zimet says he has received word of yet another Beatles reunion session that took place in Bermuda shortly after the alleged Los Angeles one and that he is trying to obtain those tapes.. Click Here for the Full Story

Purertracks
MuchMusic reports: In other music news from the Web, Puretracks announced today that they have lifted their restriction on the number of copies that an individual customer can burn of Universal titles. Previously, downloaders were permitted only three copies per title but are now free to download as many copies as they like. A statement from Universal said that they were rewarding their customers by trusting that they would only make a reasonable number of copies for their own personal use. The label says the decision to lift the restrictions is being made "on a trial basis.".- Click Here for the full story

Down Systematic Departure
siN's metal news reports: DOWN and SYSTEMATIC have both parted ways with Elektra Records, with both bands reaching constant problems in terms of marketing and support for their respective records.

SYSTEMATIC, though, will see a brighter side to leaving Elektra, as they have been asked to open for METALLICA come New Years Eve in Las Vegas. As for DOWN fans, maybe this will be instrumental in seeing a third album from the lads from NOLA..  -Click Here for the Full Story

Say whatever you like about Lars but he did put out some cool music on his short-lived Elektra vanity label. Brand New Immortals could have been huge if Elektra would have gotten behind them..  same story, different day.

Moonspell In, Nevermore Out
Thing change so quickly, just yesterday. Well read on from siN's metal news: NEVERMORE will no longer be the opening band for OPETH's upcoming US tour, as the band has dropped off. No reason has been given for the departure.

MOONSPELL will now be in direct support, and one more band is still to be announced.

1/28/04 - Marquee Theatre - Tempe, AZ (ON SALE 12/20 -10 A.M.)
2/18/04 - Quest Club - Minneapolis, MN (ON SALE 12/18 - 10 A.M.)

It looks as though this tour will also hit Canada, as dates have been scheduled for Montreal in February 2004.
