Bon Jovi Buys Football Team
Launch reports: Bon Jovi vocalist Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, and businessman Craig Spencer are among the owners of the newest Arena Football League (AFL) franchise--the Philadelphia Soul. They will all be on hand at a press conference/launch party at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia on Tuesday (September 23) at 5 p.m. ET to formally welcome the team to the City Of Brotherly Love. The owners will be joined by Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell, Sambora's wife Heather Locklear, AFL Commissioner David Baker, and head coach Michael Trigg.

The Philadelphia Soul's first game will be played on the weekend of February 6 through 8. The official AFL schedule will be released in early October.

Fans who buy season tickets for four or more will get invitations to a private Philadelphia Soul pep rally featuring a live performance by Bon Jovi. The pep rally will take place around the time of the early February home opener..- Click Here for the Full Story

Yes, the AFL is actually still around. It has lasted a lot longer than most people expected. Some may say the same about Bon Jovi.

Punk Gov Hopeful Speaks
Aversion reports: Still pressing his campaign for governor of California, Jack Grisham and his band T.S.O.L. announced an awareness show Oct. 5.

The band will take the stage along with other Los Angeles punk staples such as The Adolescents and Youth Brigade as well as newcomers like 1208 and The Bronx. The show is geared toward activating support in young voters for Grisham.

"If these younger people got off their asses, the way this election is set up, with basically 10 percent of the vote you could win the election," Grisham told Aversion. "The percentage of voters who are between 18 and 35 is huge. That's like 25 or 30 percent of the voters. If those people got off their asses and said we're going to make a move here and not do this, I could easily walk away with this election. They could be s***ting their pants come election day. All of a sudden it's like 'f***! We were concerned about Arnie cussing in 1977 and we just elected this guy?'" - Click Here for the Full Story - Also check out this feature article/ interview that Aversion just posted

Avril The Cover Girl
VH1 reports: Now that pop music has been peppered with so many Avril clones, these days Lavigne is acting out her best Green Day, Bob Dylan and Metallica impressions.

Lavigne's covers of songs by those artists appear on the bonus audio disc that comes with "My World," the singer's first DVD, due November 4, according to an Arista Records spokesperson. Green Day's "Basket Case" was a staple of her live set, while her version of Metallica's "Fuel" was performed at the mtvICON tribute to the metal band in May "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," recorded while on tour in London, appeared on the War Child: Hope various-artists benefit album in April.

Live versions of "Unwanted" and "Sk8er Boi," both recorded in Dublin, and the studio cut "Why," the B-side to an import single, round out the audio CD.

Lavigne is currently in a Los Angeles studio working on the follow-up to last year's Let Go The new, as-yet-untitled effort is expected in the spring.

So far Lavigne, who co-wrote all of Let Go's tracks with four different songwriting parties, has only collaborated with Cliff Magness, who assisted the singer with "Complicated," "Mobile," "Unwanted," "Too Much to Ask" and "My World." "- Click Here for the Full Story

"Ok, like I totally want to like change the like spelling of the word 'boy' to 'boi'. So do I like get a co-songwriting credit?"

Bono's Children's Book
Much Music reports: Move over Madonna, Bono's got his own children's book coming out. The U2 frontman has created the illustrations for "Peter & The Wolf," a new 64-page book to be released in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation. Bono obviously didn't write the classic tale but with the help of his two daughters Jordan and Eve, he's provided the colour. The 16 original illustrations will be exhibited in Dublin, London, New York and Los Angeles before being auctioned off for charity in November.

"These angels who were so ready to look after my father in his losing fight with cancer asked me to illustrate the book that accompanies the music," said Bono of his decision to help the Irish Hospice Foundation. .- Click Here for the Full Story

When will a Gene Simmons or Ozzy Osbourne's children's book hit the stores? Ozzy could do "The Big Bad Wife".  Gene's would most likely turn X-rated and end up being called "Sinderella".

Lenny Kravitz Finds The Funk.
RS reports: "No guests -- pure L.K." is what Lenny Kravitz promises on his seventh studio effort, due out next spring.

Splitting his recording time between Miami and New York, Kravitz maintained a back-to-basics approach. "It's some funky rock & roll," he says. "But you'll hear some strings and orchestra on a couple of tunes -- real simple and fresh."

With eight of the album's eleven songs finished, Kravitz (who is also producing the record) cites "I Don't Wanna Be a Star" as the one that's close to his heart. "It's just saying there's a very simple person underneath the image that's put upon you," he says. "It's about really wanting to hold on to the simple things in life." - Click Here for the Full Story

Spector May Face Murder Charge
AP reports: The February shooting death of an actress at the home of record producer Phil Spector was ruled a homicide Monday by the coroner's office.

Lana Clarkson was shot by another person and died of a single gunshot wound to the head and neck, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Spector, 62, who is free on $1 million bail, has denied that he killed Clarkson, telling Esquire magazine in an interview that she shot herself after grabbing a bottle of tequila.

The district attorney's office has been considering whether to file charges since the Sheriff's Department submitted its investigation to prosecutors on Thursday. Sheriff's Capt. Frank Merriman told the Los Angeles Times that Clarkson's death was neither an accident nor a suicide, and that Spector shot her. - Click Here Full Story

Isn't this the same guy that used to carry a gun in a holster and shoot up recording studios? Maybe he was so drunk that he thought she was a mixing board?

EMI / Warner Music Inc?
AP reports: EMI Group PLC said Monday it is discussing the possibility of buying Warner Music Group from AOL Time Warner Inc., three years after European regulatory opposition ended their discussions about a possible joint venture.

If there were a deal, the combined companies would become the world's second-largest music group behind Universal. Artists for Warner Music include Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Cher, while EMI artists include The Rolling Stones, Janet Jackson and Billy Idol.

"Discussions are at a very preliminary stage and there is no assurance that they will result in an agreement acceptable to both parties," EMI said in a statement.

It added any deal would be subject to approval by shareholders and regulators.

Talks in 2000 about a possible joint venture with Time Warner before it had merged with AOL, were called off because European Union regulators opposed the deal.

The following year, EU opposition also stopped EMI's bid to merge its music publishing business with that of German media group Bertelsmann AG. A combined EMI-Bertelsmann would have been the world's largest recorded music company, with a market share of 26 percent. - Click Here Full Story and track listing
