Blink Reality TV
Aversion reports: Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker will become MTV's latest reality television icon next year.

MTV announced that Meet the Barkers will become the most unlikely source of entertainment since Ozzy took to the small screen. The show, which features Barker and his wife going about their daily lives, will air next year. - Click Here for the Full Story

CoF Vs Ozzfest
Blabbermouth reports: In a recent interview with MetalUnderground.com, CRADLE OF FILTH bassist Dave Pybus was asked about the group's participation in last year's Ozzfest. "The thing about Ozzfest is it's good in the crowd, playing-wise. But I would never want to do it again," he admitted. Asked to elaborate, Pybus said, "Personal reasons. I didn’t really want to earn the Osbournes any money while I spend ten weeks dying. We were the only English bands on there and they never once came to our tours. They're from Birmingham. So it was like 'F**k you.' I'm a normal person. I take things like that kinda personally. The fact that they're not normal. . . It's not a bad thing. I mean, they're traveling with their family. They've got sh*tloads of money. It's great for them. But for guys away from his family for 10 weeks, dying, you know, for nothing. You're not even allowed to have a poster campaign while at the same time as Ozzfest. Not at the stores or anything like that. They control everything. It's a bit like Nazi Germany. They say, 'Rock 'n' roll this, rock 'n' roll that.' It's the most sterile environment you could ever go into. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Dennis McCarten RIP
Blabbermouth reports: More information has surfaced regarding former NECROMANDUS bassist Dennis McCarten, who died of a kidney illness in London, aged 54.

Dennis McCarten was the very first bass player with Ozzy Osbourne's BLIZZARD OF OZZ band, alongside his NECROMANDUS colleagues, guitarist Barry Dunnery and drummer Frank Hall. The band recorded a number of tracks before Ozzy rejoined BLACK SABBATH for the "Never Say Die" album. This is all documented exclusively with first-hand accounts in Garry Sharpe-Young's Ozzy Osbourne biography. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Lit Vs Straight Edge
Lambgoat reports: We don't normally consider stuff like this news, but it looks like there was a little trouble between rock band Lit and Remembering Never this weekend. Both groups were playing in Tallahassee on Friday night (Remembering Never is on tour with Most Precious Blood, It Dies Today, and Dead To Fall), and according to members of both MPB and IDT, apparently Lit had some disparaging things to say about straight edge, etc. during their show. Consequently, some things were done to Lit's tour bus and they aren't too happy.[see full story for more including a link to photos and Lit's answer to incident]- Click Here for the Full Story

"They have tour commitments in the States at the moment and are unable to get back from over there." [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

AC/DC Ad Pulled
BW&BK reports: A father who lobbied to have a car commercial pulled from the air has called for ads to be screened before consumers see them. Bow Bowing resident Brett Ford lost his 18-year-old daughter, Lauren, when the Holden Astra in which she was a passenger smashed into a power pole at Camden in April. The nursing student was a passenger in the back seat of the car driven by a 17-year-old P-plater who escaped unhurt. After his loss, Mr Ford said he was distraught to be confronted by a television ad he felt promoted bad driving behaviour. The Holden Ute commercial featured clouds of smoke from screeching tyres and the AC/DC song Highway to Hell. - Click Here for the Full Story

No Sanctuary For Dropped Bands
BW&BK reports: In an as yet unpublicized move, it appears that Germany's Sanctuary/Noise Records has all but abandoned their artists, with several longtime staffers also leaving the once prominent metal label. Sources say that 20+ bands have either been dropped, or let out of their contract. The only non-casualty seems to be Kai Hansen's GAMMA RAY. Otherwise, the label has apparently had a change of direction, seeking to sign older, established acts, rather than breaking newer ones - a most certain death blow for scene longevity. In an ironic bit of related news, several of the departed former Sanctuary employees have banded together to start their own label, backed by IRON SAVIOR founder/guitarist Piet Sielck, who was instrumental in the formation of HELLOWEEN, along with Hansen. - Click Here for the Full Story

Take LSD Says Doors
Herald Sun reports: Ray Manzarek, 60, touring with rock act The Doors of the 21st Century in February, says critics of the drug culture have it wrong.

... "So, my advice? Take psychedelics. Why not? There are mushrooms growing, LSD was created by a doctor.

But Australian Drug Foundation CEO Bill Stronach said Manzarek was talking nonsense and sending a dangerous message. "Taking any drug has risks and clearly with LSD and hallucinogens there are significant risks attached," he said. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

This is all, as you may have guessed, connected to the upcoming release of Stubbs the Zombie in "Rebel Without a Pulse", an XBOX/Mac/PC game. Players will slake the undead protagonist's hunger (or so we assume) to the sound of these tunes:

P2P Good For Artists?
Reuters reports: Most musicians and artists say the Internet has helped them make more money from their work despite online file-trading services that allow users to copy songs and other material for free, according to a study released on Sunday.

Recording labels and movie studios have hired phalanxes of lawyers to pursue "peer to peer" networks like Kazaa, and have sued thousands of individuals who distribute copyrighted material through such networks.

But most of the artists surveyed by the nonprofit Pew Internet and American Life Project said online file sharing did not concern them much. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
