Manson Teen Murder?
NME reports: MARILYN MANSON's DVD 'THE GOLDEN AGE OF GROTESQUE' was played in court yesterday (December 23) in the trial of a teenager accused of murdering schoolgirl JODI JONES.

The DVD - which shows two girls tied together near a track and struggling as hoods were placed over their heads - was seized by police from the home of Luke Mitchell, 16, who denies murdering Jodi on June 30 last year.

He told detectives he bought the DVD two days after 14-year-old Jodi's naked and bloodstained body was found in woods near her home in Dalkeith, near Edinburgh. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Concert Tax
BBC reports: One of the UK's biggest music festival promoters has attacked government plans to impose new licence fees for outdoor concerts and other events.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport wants to levy fees of up to £50,000 to cover the cost of health and safety inspections.

Mean Fiddler, the firm which runs the Reading and Leeds festivals, said it was "disappointing".

The DCMS said it wanted to ensure the public were safe at festivals.

The charges would apply for events which attract 6,000 people or more, and would start at £5,000, rising to a £50,000 levy on events which held more than 75,000 people. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Bono Backs America
Rockdirt reports: ContactMusic.com reports U2 frontman Bono gets upset when he hears about other musicians complaining about having to travel to America to perform. "Waking up in Memphis, Tennessee, where Stax was born, or where Elvis Presley cut 'Mystery Train' or where Martin Luther King was shot dead is not crap. America is just full of possibilities. Nobody buys their cars anymore so it gets angry and Eminem happens - one of the great writers of the age comes out of Detroit." - Click Here for the Full Story

Doug Gillard Goes Top 10
press release reports: Well this really made our day. Amazon.com just named Doug Gillard of Guided By Voices's excellent debut solo LP "Salamander" on our BT-associated label Pink Frost/Big Takeover Records, as their #8 PICK in their TOP 10 ALTERNATIVE ROCK ALBUMS OF 2004!!!! Holy Moly!! It's even two spots ahead of Elliott Smith's final LP, ">From the Basement on the Hill," which came in at #10. Not that we don't agree, of course, but we are totally honored, and hope that this tidbit will cement the idea that this is a truly special, ambitious, and completely realized LP and not some solo LP spare-time knockoff. 2 Cents: Closing the Door On 2004
[It's time for Chuck DiMaria to give us his 2 cents on 2004. One cent is below, click the full story link to get the other!]

Well, as the New Year inches closer and closer to us all, I think we should take a moment and reflect on some of the wonderful things 2004 gave us:

Let's see, where shall we begin? Well, there was Janet Jackson's nasty ol' boob flopping out all over the Superbowl. To this day, I'm still amazed at the uproar, the indignation, and the heavy fines levied in the wake of Boobgate. That just doesn't seem right to me. Where is all of this righteous indignation when you really need it? (Like when Ashlee Simpson got her own reality show?)

Speaking of poptarts with over-inflated egos (among other body-parts), we recently discovered that neither Ashlee nor Lindsay can sing live. (How come nobody gives their kids normal names anymore? Those two names got "Stripper" written all over them. So does "Tara", but I digress.) I'm a fan of Pop Music, but it's in pretty sad shape recently. As a matter of fact, let's make it official; Pop Music is dead.

Speaking of dead, ODB died and I'm not sure how I feel about that one, yet. I'm not entirely sure exactly what his contribution to hip-hop was and how his passing is going to change the landscape of rap music. However, like most dead rap stars, ODB is still putting out albums, so it may be a while before we know exactly what it's like not having him around.

Speaking of not having someone around, Ray Charles also passed on. The man was a genius and there's no question about that at all. I'm sorry he died before he got a chance to see the biopic "Ray", starring Jamie Foxx. (Same thing goes for Rick James. I miss ya, Rick.) In the words of The Lemonheads, it's a shame about Ray, but since he wasn't really going to see the film anyway, no big loss there.

Speaking of no big loss, Courtney Love hasn't been seen flashing her boobs or flapping her lips in NYC lately, so there's hope that maybe, just maybe, that fifteen minutes of fame is coming to a long-overdue end.
