The stabbing occurred after a man identified as Jimmy James Johnson assaulted Dr. Dre as the record mogul was about to accept a lifetime achievement award. Johnson reportedly approached Dre's table and it appeared to witnesses he was requesting an autograph but then punched Dre.

A melee followed with several people throwing punches and chairs. Johnson was being carried away by security when he was attacked by several people, including Young Buck (real name Darnell Brown). [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Eagles Bash Idol Contests
Herald Sun reports: AS Idol mania builds, one of the world's most famous bands wants it voted out of the music industry forever.

Superstars Don Henley and Joe Walsh, of the Eagles, believe the Idol phenomenon is a backroom scam.

"I am sick of it," Henley said. "It is about marketing over music and formula, all based on decisions by men in ties. It is created in the backrooms."

Walsh said: "By men in ties. Beware of the men in ties. There is some valid music out there. But none of that music is on Idol." [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Silly News: Norah "Judas Priest" Jones
BW&BK reports: NORAH JONES threatened to cover JUDAS PRIEST on Sunday night -- inspired, she said, by a VH1 special on heavy metal that she and her band mates had watched on the bus ride to Sound Advice Amphitheatre west of West Palm Beach.

Jones, 25, grinned as she addressed an outdoor crowd of 8,300 people. But the evil streak ended there. The band "didn't agree" that playing a metal tune would be fun, she said. So the audience instead got a whispery cover of The Long Way Home, a loner's ballad by Tom Waits that appears on Jones' latest album, Feels Like Home.- Click Here for the Full Story

AC/DC Lane Sign Modified By Fan
BW&BK reports: It was a victory for rock fans when the Melbourne City Council voted to honour AC/DC by naming a city laneway after them in September. But the street sign erected didn't look quite right. Legislation had prohibited the band's iconic lightning bolt or a slash from separating the AC from the DC.

So one fan decided to take the matter the into his own hands. Knifeyard, a local artist, made a massive lightning bolt out of the same metal used in street signs and bolted it above and below the ACDC street sign with a hammer drill.

"I didn't think the sign looked right - they didn't even leave a space between the AC and the DC," says Knifeyard. "So I thought about how I could add to it without defacing it. "I was thinking of going to the council to seek approval, but that idea lasted three seconds because I had heard how long it took to get the name change. Double Frank Black
Pitchfork reports: As we approach the final month of the Pixies wild reunion year, the band's prolific frontman Frank Black has begun releasing small breadcrumbs of information about his forthcoming solo album. As we reported last Monday, the record has ballooned into two discs and has assumed the working title of Honeycomb. But according to a Billboard report, we were mistaken in believing that the Honeycomb tag will necessarily encompass both discs. Black is apparently planning on releasing two albums, the second of which is currently untitled. Whether they would be released simultaneously, a la Bright Eyes and Lambchop and Nelly and lots of other people, is unclear.

Aside from the intriguing list of players we reported last week, Black has added The Band's Levon Helm, Spooner Oldham, southern soul songwriter/producer Dan Penn, singer/songwriter Duane Jarvis, and former Booker T. & The MG's guitarist Steve Cropper. It may help you, the reader, understand the presence of so many of these fine musicians on Black's record if we tell you that the sessions took place in Nashville. Not content to rest on the laurels of this year's neverending Pixies tour, Black is also planning a solo tour following the records' release. Jhonn Balance RIP
Pitchfork reports: Jhonn Balance, a founding member of the experimental industrial group Coil, died Saturday after a domestic accident. Under the influence of alcohol he fell from the first floor landing, hitting his head on the floor some 15 [feet] below."

Bandmate Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, who was in the house at the time, apparently heard the crash and discovered Balance unconscious, but still breathing. After being rushed to a local hospital, Balance's condition deteriorated, and he died soon after. The site reports that no foul play is suspected.
