Blue
Men Breakout |
press release reports: Having performed together
at Blue Man and honed their musical rapport for five years, Billy O'Malley
(guitar/vocals), Graham McLachlan (bass) and Corky Gainsford (drums) were
compelled to work together outside of BMG and record Thirsty's debut A
Taste Is Not Enough, which is scheduled for official release: 4.22.05.
As principal songwriter for Thirsty, Billy
wears his influences well. His music distills the power of a thousand metal
riffs into songs that evoke raw energy (ex: Sex Pistols and The Melvins)
combined with simple melodies and lush harmonies (ex: Weezer and Dagnasty).
Comparisons to Kurt Cobain are not uncommon. Billy's former bands include
Seka (Taang!), Stripmind (Sire/Reprise/Warner Bros....featuring Sully Erna
of Godsmack on drums), Jocobono (Cherrydisc/MCA . featuring Todd Perlmutter,
drummer and Grammy nominated producer for Blue Man Group and Michael Welch,
bass player for Weezer). He also sang backing vocals on the Mighty Mighty
Bosstones highly acclaimed release Pay Attention (Mercury).
Thirsty will be on tour in the U.S. May
24 through June 12, 2005.[see full story for more]- Click

Landmark
Copyright Case |
ABA Journal reports: In a precedent-setting
decision, New York states highest court last week extended the scope of
common-law copyright. The ruling gives a huge boost to those who own the
rights to recorded musical performancesalmost always large music companies,
not the musicians who made the recordings.
The Court of Appeals groundbreaking April
5 decision held that rights to performances recorded before 1972 are protected
under state common law, even after those recordings have been put on the
market. The ruling, Capitol Records Inc. v. Naxos of America, No. 30, increases
the duration of protection for a treasure trove of recorded music, keeping
it out of the public domain until 2067. This benefits the companies that
own the rights to all pre-1972 recorded performances and prevents others
from releasing their own versions of these early recordings. [see full

Code
Debut |
press release reports: UK hard rock / funk
rock act The Code releases debut album: Live Learn and Die
While 1960s-inspired, hedonistic Britpop
and Indie Rock make their return to centre stage in the UK, the five Mancunians
who make up The Code have released a multiracial, politically-charged debut
that owes a greater debt to the funk-rock of Sly & the Family Stone,
Rick James, Bootsy Collins, early Prince and Living Colour... and to the
metal mightiness of prime Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. Their debut album,
"Live Learn and Die" meets the challenge of capturing the frenetic Code
live sound, an invigorating blend of funk, punk, hard rock and urban. [see
