Grammy Winner Shot
AP reports: A Grammy-winning musician and husband of ABC news reporter Elizabeth Vargas was treated at a hospital and released Monday after being shot in the head during an attempted carjacking following a performance. 

Marc Cohn, who had a hit with the song "Walking in Memphis" and won the Grammy for best new artist in 1992, was struck in the temple Sunday night when a man fired into his band's van in a parking garage. A suspect was being sought.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Feds Vs Labels
Audio Aggression reports: The recent $10 million settelement between New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and Sony BMG has resulted in an official investigation by the FCC of the payola activities.

"I am very concerned about the activities that led the New York Attorney General to investigate Sony BMG Music Entertainment and ultimately resulted in a settlement agreement with that company," said FCC Chairman Kevin Martin in a statement announcing the probe. "The FCC has longstanding rules prohibiting payola. These rules serve the important purpose of ensuring that the listening public knows when someone is seeking to influence them. Broadcasters must comply with these rules. The Commission will not tolerate non-compliance. While payola may not be a widespread practice in the broadcasting industry, to the extent it is going on, it must stop." [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

BW&BK reports: Pundits have long gone around making lists of ways in which rock & roll is hazardous to the health, but, at long last, a respected institution has gone on the record giving credit where credit is due - by honoring KISS for their efforts in battling sexually transmitted diseases.

DMX Charged
AP reports: Rapper DMX was charged Monday with violating the conditions of a plea deal approved after he drove through an airport parking gate last year while on drugs.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, posted $500 bail at a hearing Monday. He is scheduled next in court on Oct. 11.

Kaiser Chiefs Retiring
Gigwise reports: Lead singer of the Kaiser Chiefs, Ricky Wilson has revealed that the band only plan on making one more album before calling it a day.

The Leeds band released their debut album �Employment' earlier this year and have since gone on to have a massively successful 2005.

ABC reports: "It's been an ugly battle, but we finally got to make the record we wanted to make," explains guitarist Jason Fubler of Agents of the Sun, whose sophomore album, MONARCHS OF A FALLEN SOCIETY, comes out October 11 on DCide Records. 

In touring news, road warriors Agents of the Sun (who's shared the stage with 3 Doors Down, CKY, Saliva, Cold and TRUSTcompany) have been tapped to perform on the side stage and at after-parties at various stops along 311's U.S. trek starting next month.
