Oasis
Vs Eminem |
Ananova reports: Oasis star Noel Gallagher
has accused rappers Eminem and 50 Cent of encouraging youth violence.

Smashing
Pumpkins Return |
antiMusic reports: Billy Corgan plans a smashing
return for his seminal alternative band The Smashing Pumpkins. Corgan let
the cat out of the bag in a big way on Tuesday when he placed a full-page
advertisement in his hometown newspaper, The Chicago Tribune, declaring
his intention to bring back the band.
The ad, in the form of a letter starts
off talking about his new solo CD TheFutureEmbrace and his pride at representing
Chicago as an artist. Corgan then details his immediate plans to support
the new CD with a tour that kicks off on Wednesday.
But the bombshell comes later when Corgan
wrote, "When I played the final Smashing Pumpkins show on the night of
December 2, 2000, I walked off the Metro stage believing that I was forever
leaving a piece of my life behind. I naively tried to start a new band,
but found that my heart wasn't in it. I moved away to pursue a love that
I once had but got lost. So I moved back home to heal what was broken in
me, and to my surprise I found what I was looking for. I found that my
heart is in Chicago, and that my heart is in The Smashing Pumpkins. [see

Beat Boys |
Rockdirt reports: Backstreet Boys fans were
hopeful when early indications suggested that their comeback effort 'Never
Gone' (293k) would top the album charts this week, but Coldplay's first
week sales drop of 'X&Y' (336k) wasn't enough to do the trick, and
a late surge by the Foo Fighters with 'In Your Honor' (320k) relegated

Five Special: Dizzy Reed (Guns N' Roses) |
Welcome to the Top Five special! We send out
requests to tons of bands and labels to have their artists share with us
their Top Five Albums of All Time and we have quite a collection of artists
from across the musical spectrum that have turned in their picks! In the
coming weeks we will be unveiling a new Top Five list each week day. Lists
from big names as well as indie artists will be included, so we hope you
enjoy this special and you discover some music in the process. Keavin
(antiMusic.com editor)
With the kick off this week we're going
to feature lists from a rather diverse collection of artists (members of
Guns N' Roses, Styx, As I Lay Dying as well as Chino XL). To get
things started right we're kicking off with two lists today! With
his birthday we had to begin this special with Dizzy Reed, the longest
running member of Guns N' Roses (aside from Axl) and from the other side
of the musical spectrum, Chino XL.
Dizzy Reed of Guns N' Roses's Top Five
Albums of All Time!
5. Best of Mountain - Mountain:
Don't like to include best of records but all my friends had this one when
we were kids learning about rock and roll. There would be no Metal at all
without this band.
(samples
/ buy cd)
4. Rocks - Aerosmith:
One of the first records I ever bought. If you look at the sound levels
compared to records that came out before this one, this one is when things
suddenly started to get loud. Rock song writing at it's best.
(samples
/ buy cd)
3. One More For the Road - Lynyrd Skynyrd:
The best live album ever by the hardest working band of that era or possibly
any era, except for the band I'm in. And the best pure rock blues piano
player ever.
(samples
/ buy cd)
2. Machine Head - Deep Purple:
They heard "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain on the radio. They thought about
giving up 'cause they didn't think they could top that. They wrote this
record instead. 'Nough said.
(samples
/ buy cd)
1. Exile On Main Street - The
Rolling Stones: I would have included every Stones record from the
70's but that would have been retarded. This is my favorite record by my
favorite band. It's magic. If you don't get it, listen to the other stuff
they were doing around that time (Sticky Fingers, It's Only Rock and Roll,
Goats Head Soup, etc.) then go back and listen to this. If you don't
get it then, then you are retarded.
(samples
/ buy cd)
About Dizzy Reed: What's cool about
Dizzy is that he takes every opportunity to showcase his favorite music
and influences. When he's not working with GNR he's playing shows with
his band Hookers N Blow which features a set of rock classics (many included
in his list above). It's a great time so if you get the chance to see him,
definitely do so! They tour regularly. You can also catchy Dizzy most Thursday
nights at the Cat Club in Hollywood playing with The Starf**kers, an all-star
jam headed by Stray Cat Slim Jim Phantom and Dizzy's old bandmate Gilby
Clark. They bust out the classics too and you never know who will
show up to jam with them! Finally, if you're in the LA area comedown
to The Joint (on pico) tonight (June 22, 2005) for a birthday bash for
Dizzy!
