Steve Winwood Honored
BMI reports: American performing rights organization Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) saluted the top European songwriters at its 2005 London Awards staged tonight at the Dorchester Hotel. The black-tie gala dinner and awards ceremony honored the songwriters, composers and publishers of the most performed songs on U.S. radio and television in the past year in all genres of music.

A highlight of the evening was the BMI Icon presentation to legendary songwriter and recording artist Steve Winwood, who was honored for his "enduring influence on generations of music makers." With a career that spans more than 40 years as both a solo artist and as a member of the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith, Winwood’s many songwriting credits include "Gimme Some Lovin’," "Can’t Find My Way Home," "While You See a Chance," "Higher Love" and "Back In the High Life," among many others. Mailbag: Schizophrenia, Belly and Stefoney
Day in Rock reports: We do read the email that is sent in and we even post some of it from time to time so everyone can enjoy it. Below are a few of the recent emails sent in commenting on DiR or stories we ran. We removed the full names to protect the innocent, stupid and guilty. (It's up to you to figure out which is which).

Re: Monday's story about the band Vulgar Pang and their new CD "Pleasures of Schizophrenia".

Ann wrote: How dare you make fun people that suffer from schizophrenia it is a serious illness and I can assure you that there is no pleasure in it!

Response: Ann, please understand that the Day in Rock had absolutely nothing to do with the naming of that album. The band simply sent a press release and we reprinted it as a courtesy to them and our readers that might enjoy that band. We would never make light of such a serious disease, that would be nuts and besides the little people told us they would kill us if we did.

Re: Past coverage of Kelly Osbourne and some comments we may have made

Kelly wrote: Her name is KELLY not BELLY! And she is NOT FAT! Just because you want girls to be sticks doesn't mean a NORMAL girl like Kelly is FAT!

Response: Kelly, it is simply a play on words, but you are right, while Belly is plump she is not obese (yet). That being said when it comes time that Kelly Osbourne is held up as a textbook example of a normal girl; Armageddon may just be upon us. Bob help us all.

Re: Our stupid comments on some of the stories

Many people wrote (Mostly Gwen Stefoney fans): (paraphrased) Your comments are unnecessary and offensive.

Response: It's really the little people that make those comments; we have no control over them. Sometime the stupidity of pop/rap/rock stars (Gwen tries to be all) gets to them and they can not help themselves but to make snide comments at the expense of said pop/rap/rock star (and/or their fans). We have told the little people that you were offended by these comments and they said you can kindly go fu….

See you tomorrow!

The little people
