Aversion reports: Big Star's Alex Chilton is still missing nearly a week after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans.

Ananova reports: Britney Spears has turned down a deal to perform her own regular show in Las Vegas.

Gigwise reports: It has been disclosed that former Beatle, John Lennon, used to piss on nuns.

According to Chris Hutchins, writer of the Mr Confidential biography about Lennon's life, whilst living in Hamburg John would pull his 'Winston' out of his pants and let rip all over the heads of the holy women as they scurried to church below his window. Mercury Surprise
NME reports: ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS have won the 2005 NATIONWIDE MERCURY PRIZE with their album ‘I Am A Bird Now’.

New York based but English born frontman Antony Hegarty was declared winner this evening (September 6) at the ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Reacting to the win, Hegarty said: "I think they must have made a mistake. I am completely overwhelmed. I think that's insane. Staind Cancel Tour
Staind reports: STAIND have been forced to cancel their planned European tour, due to U.S. promotional commitments. The band had scheduled a month-long European tour that was set to begin September 19 in Dublin, Ireland in support of their CHAPTER V album, which entered the BILLBOARD Top 200 Chart at #1 in the U.S. The European dates will be rescheduled for March 2006. 

In a joint statement, STAIND--singer AARON LEWIS, guitarist MIKE MUSHOK, bassist JOHNNY APRIL and drummer JON WYSOCKI--said, “We love touring overseas and are incredibly thankful to our European fans. Unfortunately at this time, circumstances prevent us from coming over to perform live. Live 8 DVD
NME reports: LIVE 8 is set to be released on a four-disc DVD on November 7.

AP reports: Michael Jackson has written a song to help raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and will soon record it.

But they have to pare it down to one album. On days off, they come up with riffs and partials and then when they get together, they have to do this to write a song. Nobody's brought in a whole song. But when they all get together the songs come along. BW&BK reports: Straight-laced Pacific University may be loosening up a bit. 

The newest member of its board of trustees is the lead guitarist of KISS, the 1970s heavy metal band known for its elaborate makeup and costumes, stadium pyrotechnics and high-volume mantra that spoke of the need to "rock and roll all night and party every day."
