N' ROSES isn't the real thing: "You know, you've got Slash and Duff doing
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS songs with Weiland (in VELVET REVOLVER). They can't
do 'Welcome to the Jungle' because he can't sing it. Let's be honest. Then,
you've got Axl doing 'Sweet Child o' Mine' and 'Rocket Queen' with some
other dudes. I'd rather see Axl singing GUNS N' ROSES songs than Slash
doing STONE TEMPLE PILOTS songs. Nobody can sing 'Paradise City' like Axl

crown. The King of Country Music has received his 32nd platinum album certification
for It Just Comes Natural, which was released in October. This certification
follows on the heels of a platinum certification for Fresh Cut Christmas,

copies in only one week.
These platinum certifications solidify
Strait's record of earning more platinum or multiplatinum discs than any
other artist in country music and round out a blockbuster month for the
Texas troubadour, who was inducted into the prestigious Country Music Hall
of Fame Nov. 6. Strait, who has sold nearly 70 million records worldwide,
recently scored his 53rd number one hit with "Give It Away," the first

PR reports: Pontiac unveiled details for the
brand's biggest music promotion ever - a nationwide musical talent search
and contest. Beginning today, the promotion, "Countdown to 1" will give
unsigned bands the opportunity to compete for the ultimate prize; the chance
to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live and play on the Pontiac Garage in New York's
Times Square during the annual New Year's Eve celebration, where historically
only the biggest bands have performed.
How "Countdown to 1" works: Starting November
17, unsigned bands will be able to upload an MP3 track to the "Countdown
to 1" website www.countdownto1.com. A short essay will also be submitted
describing why the judge's panel should select the band. Bands will also
have the opportunity to submit a video (the video will not be used in the
judge's decision). The winning band will win the breakthrough booking of
a lifetime - a chance to open for a national act, in Times Square, on New
Year's Eve in front of a million people, and an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel
Live. The winning band will be chosen by a panel of judges from Pontiac

PR reports: Musicians Institute in Hollywood
will play host to some of the greatest singers and musicians on the West
Coast to come together and pay musical tribute to long-lost friend and
drummer extrordinaire Carlos Vega. This year's 9th annual event will be
held on Saturday, December 9th at 8:00pm at Musicians Institute's convenient
location right on Hollywood Blvd. In Vega's short-lived, but much loved
career he played with several musical legends such as Curtis Mayfield,
Barry Manilow, Placido Domingo, Neil Diamond and Herb Alpert. Getting together
to play and remember 'Los is an opportunity to have fun and make some great
music, and people come from all over the world to attend along with Carlos'
family and friends. Proceeds from ticket sales are used to provide a PIT
scholarship for an outstanding drummer to be chosen during a special drum-off.
In addition to the drum-off and all-star
concert, DW Drums is also co-sponsoring a drum clinic by world-renowned
drummer (and PIT grad) Kurt Bisquera at 3:00pm the same afternoon. All
advance ticket holders to the concert will be admitted free to the clinic.
The final competition for the Carlos Vega Memorial Scholorship will take
place immediately following the clinic at 4:30pm, with judges currently
scheduled to include Bisquera, event organizer and keyboard session ace
David Garfield, PIT Director Tim Pedersen, DW President Don Lombardi, Guitar
Center Rock Walk Director Dave Wiederman, and top LA drummers Forrest Robinson

Allen is Coming to Smile |
PR reports: Lily Allen's "Smile" has been
a massive summer hit in the U.K., topping the U.K. Airplay chart for six
weeks in a row. Now the 21-year-old artist, pronounced by NME as "the archetypal
singer-songwriter for the iPod generation," has set her sights on America.
Last November, Allen - as many artists
do - started posting tracks on her MySpace site so she could see what fans
thought of them. "Since then, it's gone mad," she says. Mad indeed - her
songs have received over four million total plays to date. Alright, Still,
Allen's full-length debut album, rocketed onto the U.K. Album chart at
#2 in mid-July, earning accolades from the U.K. press. Alright, Still is
