EMI Bid Rejected
FMQB reports: EMI Group said it has ceased discussions with Permira Advisers regarding its takeover approach because the two sides could not agree on a price, according to Bloomberg News. Solo Cranberrie
PR reports: Sanctuary Records is pleased to announce they have signed the multi-talented Dolores O'Riordan for her first solo album, ARE YOU LISTENING? The record will come out in North America on the Sanctuary Records imprint and in Europe on Sanctuary's newly reactivated Sequel label, which is focused on providing a home to contemporary artists, particularly those with an established fan base and are looking for an alternative to the major labels.

Dolores, iconic former lead singer of Ireland's The Cranberries, who sold in excess of 40 million albums worldwide with the band, will be releasing the lead single from her album in late April 2007 with the album itself slated for a May 8th 2007 release. Dolores will be embarking on a world tour in support of ARE YOU LISTENING Spring/Summer 2007.- Click Here for the Full Story

Naked Rhythm Bridges Global Divisions
PR reports: In a post 9-11 global environment currently fraught with cultural tensions and war, it may seem unlikely to see a German, a Jew, and a Lebanese man take to the stage with belly dancers to marry ancient Middle-Eastern and World music to electronic house and techno beats for an audience of everyone from buttoned-up American businessmen to Indian Brahmins. But that is precisely what Naked Rhythm, a modern world-music phenomenon currently garnering acclaim with their fresh culture-fusing sound and philosophy, is doing. Highly sought after for their groundbreaking approach to peace, and performing private concerts for celebrities like Sting (who endorsed their album), Robert Downey Jr., The Black Eyed Peas, and others, their debut album, Frequency, released by Caravan Records, is about to take the public by storm in 2007. Digital Sales Actually Way Up
DiR reports: Despite all the hupla over supposed declining sales at iTunes we received the following press release about how digital music sales actually did this year: Nielsen SoundScan has reported a dramatic growth in the sales of digital music downloads for 2006. Through the first 49 weeks of 2006, sales of individually downloaded digital tracks are up more than 67% over the same period in 2005, accounting for more than 525 million digital downloads; already 173 million more than 2005's annual total.

Historically digital downloads have dramatically increased year-over-year. In 2005, digital track sales reached 353 million; 150% higher than total track sales for all of 2004. In 2004, digital download track sales broke the 100 million mark with more than 140 million digital tracks sold. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
