iPod Murder

MTV reports: New York teenager Darren Samuel was convicted Tuesday of robbery and second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old over an iPod. Samuel, 17, faces up to 25 years in prison for his part in the attack of Christopher Rose, who was stabbed in the chest when he and friends resisted a group that accosted them in the street and demanded they give up an iPod one of them was carrying..[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Bulimic Idol

antiMusic reports: This year's American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee confessed to People Magazine that she struggled for years with bulimia. A disorder that not only threatened her life, but also her vocal chords. 

She said that it got so bad that she was vomiting up to seven times a day which was like "putting a sledgehammer to your vocal cords," McPhee said in the interview.

The 22 year-old singer told People in an interview published on their website Thursday that she finally sought help after he successful American Idol audition and took part in an intensive three month program at an eating disorder center in Los Angeles. SOAD Vs Turkish Media

antiMusic reports: System of a Down are a bit peeved at the Turkish media. We'll let the band tell you what happened. Here is a statement they have issued on their official website: The Turkish media has been spreading blatant lies about System of a Down, among them the claim that we had an anti-Turk slogan printed on tickets during our 1998 tour with Slayer.

The truth is that System of a Down cancelled our shows opening for Slayer in Turkey in 1998. Any tickets for the Turkish portion of the 1998 Slayer tour were printed on Slayer's behalf, not ours. DMX Gun Charge

antiMusic reports: DMX's rap sheet is growing and if he keeps up at this rate it may soon challenge Pete Doherty's criminal record. The rapper has been cited in Scottsdale, Arizona for carrying a concealed handgun. 

He was reportedly in a 1964 Chevy convertible near Scottsdale nightclub Buzz, when police saw him place a handgun under the front seat of the vehicle. Police cited him for failing to have a permit for a concealed weapon, a misdemeanor. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Zakk Wylde Scam Suit

antiMusic reports: Zakk Wylde has filed a lawsuit against 357 Customs, a company that was selling Zakk Wylde branded products that apparently wasn't filling fan's orders or promising more than they delivered (see below). The following post was made to the official BLS site about the situation: "Berserkers - I know you have been awaiting my response to 357 Customs' unscrupulous conduct in connection with their promotion. I have filed a lawsuit against 357 Customs."

The following is some information from wikipedia about the 357 situation: There is currently a dispute involving several 357 Customs promotions and Zakk Wylde Gibson (Epiphone) guitars. Although the promotion was not run, or personally endorsed by Zakk Wylde, the company 357 Customs does have a business relationship with him. This promotion is a purported scam regarding a promotion run by 357customs.com in which they promised a "free" Zakk Wylde branded Epiphone guitar upon the purchase of several Zakk Wylde branded goods included in a variety of bundles. Said goods included $100 gift certificates, diecast miniatures, and mp4 audio/video players, as well as miscellaneous Zakk Wylde styled paraphernalia. The cost of bundles was significant, often in the range of a few hundred dollars and many customers willingly made several purchases in order to receive several Zakk Wylde branded guitars. Hollyhood Master Plan

Launch reports: Hip-hop mogul Master P did very well early on in his career with the straight-to-video releases I'm Bout It, Bout It, I Got The Hook Up, and Foolish, and now he's hoping to take over the straight-to-DVD market with the launch of his new film company, Hollyhood Cinemas. So far, Master P's plan is working, as the first release from Hollyhood Cinemas, Repos, is already on back order. Gigwise reports: Jet have recently returned to Los Angeles to put the new material down on record with producer Dave Sardy having whittled down 40 songs to 15.

Petra Leaving Decemberists

CMJ reports: Petra Haden, beloved vocalist/violinist for the Decemberists, will be perusing other avenues of adventure after touring exclusively with the Decemberists for most of last year.

"It's an amicable thing; we still are friends," reads a posting on the band's official message board. "For one thing, we initially had asked her to come aboard as a touring musician for just the Picaresque tours. We hadn't really expected to take her on as a full-time part of the band. There was some talk about that happening, but in the end, after the tours were over and we were back in the comforts of our homes it didn't necessarily still make sense." Mammoth Press reports: iTunes is now allowing labels to encode their music with the iTunes producer, using the Apple Lossless audio Codec (ALC), meaning that the audio will be higher quality than MP3 or Apple's DRM enable .m4p codec. Commit Suicide Again

antiMusic reports: Are you ready to Commit Suicide again? The band Commit Suicide have announced their imminent reunion featuring the full original lineup. So far they have one date booked for August 21st in Pittsburgh, PA with Origin at the Lawrenceville Moose (All Ages) but according to the band, they "are working on the details for another huge show that we're really looking forward to." 

In their MySpace blog announcement the band writes: "Reunion talks started a few months ago, and the five of us are all stoked to be playing together again. Now, make no mistake about it, this will be a full reunion with all of the original members."
