CMJ reports: Frank Portman, frontman of the
East Bay pop-punkers the Mr. T Experience, has written his first novel
King Dork (named after one of MTX's songs) due to be released April 11
by Delacorte/Random House. Portman (a.k.a. Dr. Frank), guitarist, singer
and songwriter for MTX, will celebrate the release of the book, "a mystery,
and a comedy of high school manners, but more than anything, it's a treasure
trove of musical references and opinions," at Cato's Ale House in Oakland.
There, he will also perform a set of MTX material, as well as music written
for his fictional character's high school band.[see full story for more]-

Bolt
Thrower Dethroned |
Metal Blade reports: Bolt Thrower will no
longer be taking out Gorefest on the second leg of their Those Once Loyal
European Tour. The band shares the following on the subject:
"We are happy to announce the bands taking
part in the second leg of our European tour. Main support on Those Still
Loyal II Europe 2006 will come from Holland 's finest — GOD DETHRONED —
for the first part of the tour, and the Northern hyperblast legends — Kataklysm
— for the remainder of the tour. For this tour we decided against the usual
three- or four-band package, and instead are using the opportunity to bring
out friends and also help promote new bands.
Therefore, in addition to GOD DETHRONED/Kataklysm
we have invited different special guests each night, bands like Downlord
([ex-BOLT THROWER frontman] Dave Ingram's new band), God Among Insects,
etc. and/or various up and coming local bands. [see full story for more]-

Revolution
Switched |
Press Release reports: A New Revolution, the
new project of ex-Unloco frontman Joey Duenas & ex-Slaves On Dope members
Frank Salvaggio and Rob Urbani, have been added to Switched’s headlining
tour with labelmates Allele. Fans can preview A New Revolution by visiting
the band’s My Space.
When Slaves on Dope veterans Frank Salvaggio
and Rob Urbani were pursuing a fresh musical start after their band's dissolution,
former Unloco guitarist and vocalist Joey Duenas was simultaneously looking
for a new project to sink his teeth into. Joey, Rob and Frank were no strangers,
having toured together countless times with their previous bands. The addition
of Austin native and seasoned guitar player Shaun Stockton provided the
final piece of the puzzle. The Ozzfest alums, along with newcomer Shaun,
converged in Austin, Texas with a singular vision: creating great music
and delivering it to their fans, old and new. And here they are - intense,
focused and driven. A New Beginning... [see full story for more]-

Undercover
Spy |
Skye Media reports: The four-piece, Atlanta-based
SPY have opted to go both covert and widespread. Witness their release
plans for their self-titled album, which is currently available for sale
at select cool record stores (on white vinyl no less) -- pretty covert
in the not-many-turntables-around-anymore world of today), pressed and
released by their own label, Deathray Records. And then they went the widespread
route by turning around and releasing the album on their website, for anyone
to download. For free. This makes SPY part of a growing trend of bands
(others doing this recently include Arctic Monkeys, Harvey Danger, The
Chemical Brothers, Bravecaptain, and the GoKart Records label) who are
putting their music out there online for folks to snap up at no cost, with
the thought that people who love their music will spread the word about
them in an organic, grass-roots manner. [see full story for more]-

Yeah Peta |
Peta reports: With Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ anxiously
awaited new release, Show Your Bones (Interscope Records), about to drop
on March 28, guitarist Nick Zinner took time out of his hectic schedule
to sit down for an interview with peta2—PETA’s youth division. In the interview,
Nick talks about what inspired him to go vegan, New York’s best vegan restaurants,
and the band’s upcoming album.
Nick’s move to vegetarianism began in high
school: “I have a vivid memory of eating steak with my mother,” Nick says.
“Chewing animal flesh felt like the vilest action I could do. I made my
decision right then at the dinner table.” To read Nick Zinner’s complete
interview and to view PETA’s Milk Gone Wild commercial, please visit peta2.com
