The
Replacements Best |
Press Release reports: Of the legions of bands
that came to prominence in the ’80s few remain as legendary or influential
as The Replacements, who embodied the DIY spirit that fueled the alternative
underground. On June 13 Rhino Records releases the band’s first-ever single-disc
overview, Don’t You Know Who I Think I Was?: The Best of The Replacements,
available at regular retail outlets for a suggested price of $18.98.
From their debut on Sorry, Ma, Forgot To
Take Out The Trash as a ragged hardcore outfit through the ragged glory
of Let It Be and the heartfelt rock of Tim and Pleased To Meet Me to the
intimacy of All Shook Down, The Replacements embodied rock ‘n’ roll and
crafted some of the best music of the ’80s along the way. Rockers like
“Kids Don’t Follow,” “I Will Dare,” “Bastards Of Young,” and “Can’t Hardly
Wait” sound as fresh today as they did when first released, and soul-laid-bare
songs like “Here Comes A Regular” and “Unsatisfied” pack the same emotional
wallop twenty-some years later.[see full story for more including tracklisting]-

Rock
n Women: Karyn Crisis |
antiMusic reports: A while back antiCat's
kitty litter lining supplier did a sham special touting the women of rock
but put Britney on the cover. That left a lot of people scratching their
heads because there are plenty of real women with real talent that really
rock. We waited in vain for a major publication to correct this error but
none took up that responsibility. That doesn't matter because we are doing
it! For the next month, we will be showcasing rock n women with a brand
new article each weekday by our very own Morley Seaver. Morley understands
that women can rock along with the boys and hold their own. So join us
as we celebrate the real women of rock from superstars to the up-and-coming
artists you should know about.
We kick off with a true pioneer- Karyn
Crisis. Karyn proved that a woman can front a heavy band and deliver hardcore
meets metal vocals with the best of them. Who better to kick this special
off? A few weeks ago we sadly learned that Crisis had decided to take an
indefinite hiatus after 12 years and 4 killer 'genre defying' albums. So
this may very well be the very last Crisis interview. Here is a little
of what Karyn told Morley:
And you know, Crisis always wanted to do
a lot of big things, but the industry was always just like "no you're too
extreme, no, you're too weird, no, you have a woman singer." And of course
as we've seen along the way, labels have literally, like you know how the
Backstreet Boys were formed…put together a lot of female-fronted bands
in our image so they didn't necessarily want to take a gamble on what WE
were doing because that was something they couldn't quite understand. But
they finally came around to the idea of the concept that a female-fronted
band was a good thing. But you know these people control a lot of your
fate and unfortunately the industry never really backed up Crisis. We were
like a thorn in everybody's side, except for The End Records, which was
an
amazing label. But in terms of getting Crisis to a bigger level, we were
more of a thorn in everyone's side because we were so different, and so
unique. We just refused to be fake and stylish for the sake of selling
records so, I have absolutely no regrets with the way the band has done...you
know we've done everything with our sense of integrity. I wish we could
have done a lot more but that was not in our control. [click the full story
