Live Earth Details
Day in Rock reports: Live Earth is taking shape according to Earvolution. Organizers announced performers for the U.S. event that will include The Police, Roger Waters, Smashing Pumpkins, Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson, Dave Matthews Band, KT Tunstall, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Kayne West, Ludacris, Melissa Etheridge, Rihanna, AFI, Akon and Fall Out Boy. The total event will be a global affair with shows on all 7 continents during a 24-hour period on 7/7/07. The concert was organized in part by former Vice President Al Gore to help bring awareness to global warming. How an event that uses a lot of electricity will do that is not clear but Gore says, "We hope the energy created by Live Earth will jump start a massive public education effort. Live Earth will help us reach a tipping point that's needed to move corporations and governments to take decisive action to solve the climate crisis."

The U.S. event will not take place at the Capital like previously planned, instead Giants Stadium in New Jersey will be the venue and tickets go on sale Monday, April 16. We assume that profits will be used for education efforts. No word yet if MTV plans to televise the event so they can break away for commercials during most of the important performances.

The London event will take place at Wembley Stadium and will include performances by the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol, Madonna, Bloc Party, Keanne and more. The Rolling Stones are not scheduled to take part in the event contrary to earlier rumors announcing their participation.

Neil Aspinall Quits Apple
Day in Rock reports: Neil Aspinall has quit Apple Corps (The Beatles Apple, not the iTunes/iPod/Mac Apple). AP reports that no explanation was given for the longtime friend of the Fab Four exiting the top position at the company. Jeff Jones, a former executive vice president at Sony BMG, will now head the company.

Aspinall was a childhood friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison. Their professional relationship started when he was asked on as the group's first road manager during the band's formative years. Promotions followed as he went from personal assistant to a big wig at Apple Records in 1968. The company started out with a grand idea of being a creative outlet for aspiring artists and others in the hippy counter culture and even included the famous boutique but those dreams faded away as the Beatles grew apart personally and the company evolved in its present form which handles the business side of the Beatles empire.
