Dillinger Escape Plan Week: Fix Your Face |
Fix Your Face - If I remember correctly, this was the second song that we had written for the record. I can recall jamming on that middle part at sound check on the Between The Buried and Me tour we did in Dec. '05. I think we knew from the start that it would probably be the best opener for the record and that in some ways it was just enough of the old and enough of the new to re-introduce ourselves to the world, it served as the cliff-notes to get everyone in the class up to speed with where this thing we call 'Ire Works' was about to go.
We went through a bunch of title changes, the working title being 'Snakeface' which was something Chris came up with and just ultimately didn't seem right to use. F*ck Face seemed a little too abrasive for everyone from the marketing side of things, especially because we were strongly considering doing a video for this song instead of 'Milk Lizard'...so, we settled for 'Fix Your Face' and so it goes. Having our former front-man, Dimitri, demonstrating how backups are done right on end of this track just brings everything full circle for us and also helps to bring that 'Old School Dillinger' vibe back, in case anyone had thought we'd lost our charm over the years.

Jay-Z Dropped? |
Rumours of a label change have been rife in the music industry after Jay-Z was reported to be unhappy with Def Jam following the appointment of producer/performer Jermaine Dupri as the president of their urban music division in February this year (07).
But now the rapper could have the decision made for him as his contract with Universal is due to expire at the end of this month (Dec07) and negotiations for a renewal have so far proved unsuccessful.

Motley Sued |
Skip Miller of Miller Barondess, LLP, representing legendary rock band Motley Crue, stated in Court: "This band is not going to sue Tommy Lee; this lawsuit is not about Tommy Lee. It is about Carl Stubner's tactics that we contend harmed Motley Crue and cost the band millions of dollars." The attorneys were arguing a demurrer.
The evidence in the lawsuit against Stubner consists of statements from band members Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Mick Mars as well as ten sworn declarations from key professionals associated with the band. It conclusively demonstrates that Stubner was a manager of Motley Crue and not just the manager of drummer Tommy Lee as he has previously claimed. The Motley Crue lawsuit alleges that Stubner breached his fiduciary duties to Motley Crue by making threats and demanding more money for himself.

Drowning Pool Hospitalized |
George Clooney, Pierce Brosnan and Ralph Nader have also been afflicted with this illness. In most cases the disease is temporary and, with proper rest, resolves on its own. Consequently, doctors have ordered Benton off the road for a minimum of six weeks.
As a result, the following remaining dates on Drowning Pool's This Is For The Soldiers Tour, which has been donating money to the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and the USO, have been cancelled.
Rap Outlawed in Iran |
"There is nothing wrong with this type of music in itself," the official for evaluation of music at the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, Mohammad Dashtgoli, was quoted as saying.
"But due to the use of obscene words by its singers this music has been categorised as illegal," he said. "In coordination with the police, illegal studios producing this type of music will be sealed and the singers in this genre will be confronted," he said.

Smoking Indie Rolling Stone Ad Controversy |
If you were flipping past all of the ads in the 40th Anniversary issue of Rolling Stone looking for some actual content, you may have come upon a four page pullout labeled "Indie Rock Universe". According to the Daily Swarm, "The fold-out poster a bizarre illustration that lists dozens of Pitchfork-centric bands grouped around representations of various planets and animals is nestled in between five pages of advertisements for 'The Farm,' Camel Cigarettes' indie band and label-focused promotion. If you are like most indie music fans who paid any attention to those pages, you likely assumed that the 'Indie Rock Universe' poster was part and parcel of the Camel advertising campaign; if not, the message was clearCamel's got indie rock's back."
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. said Wednesday that it has voluntarily halted promotions for "The Farm" and Winston-Salem Journal had this interesting tidbit "Reynolds and Rolling Stone have said that the tobacco company did not know that the magazine's editorial content in the pullout would contain cartoon images. [a spokesman] said that the company would not have allowed its ads to be placed in the pullout if it had known the magazine's editorial decision." Are they saying RS's editorial content is cartoonish? Not really, but they used cartoon like images in the advertorial without Joe Camel's prior knowledge.
Stapp Won't Face Domestic Assault Charges |
The rocker is due in court on 5 February (08) in relation to a May (07) incident, in which he is alleged to have thrown a bottle of carbonated drink, Orangina, at his wife's head, narrowly missing the former beauty queen. In her emergency call to Florida police, Jaclyn claimed Stapp had been high on marijuana and other drugs when he returned home from a night of wild partying.
The felony assault charge was later reduced to a misdemeanour after Stapp agreed to undergo drug and alcohol testing.

"The works are not so strikingly or substantially similar as to preclude independent creation," U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon wrote in her ruling this week.
