George McCorkle RIP

(CMJ) George McCorkle, original member and rhythm guitarist of the Marshall Tucker Band, died of cancer Friday morning in Nashville at age 60.

Having written MTB's first top 40 hit, "Fire on the Mountain", and many others, including "Everybody Needs Somebody," McCorkle retired from the band in 1984 to became a professional songwriter.

In recent years he played with The Renegades Of Southern Rock and made a guest appearance with the Marshall Tucker Band in Nashville last August - more on this story
