Ozzy Vs Simon Cowell
Blabbermouth reports: 24dash.com reports that Ozzy Osbourne has challenged sneering judge Simon Cowell of U.K. talent show "X-Factor": "You get up and perform."

Osbourne is furious that Cowell continually slags off kids who take part in the TV show auditions in search of a showbiz break.

Ozzy believes the show "damns" people just for trying their best. "Tell you what, Simon: get up there and show us how it's meant to be done," he stormed in Heat magazine.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Nin Label Fan Rip Off
Blabbermouth reports: Australia's Herald Sun recently conducted an interview with NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor. A few excerpts from the chat follow: Trent: I steal music too, I'm not gonna say I don't. But it's tough not to resent people for doing it when you're the guy making the music that would like to reap a benefit from that. On the other hand, you got record labels that are doing everything they can to piss people off and rip them off. I created a little issue down here because the first thing I did when I got to Sydney is I walk into HMV, the week the record's out, and I see it on the rack with a bunch of other releases. And every release I see: $21.99, $22.99, $24.99. And ours doesn't have a sticker on it. I look close and "Oh, it's $34.99." So I walk over to see our live DVD "Beside You in Time", and I see that it's also priced six, seven, eight dollars more than every other disc on there. And I can't figure out why that would be.

Herald Sun: Did you have a word to anyone?

Trent: Well, in Brisbane I end up meeting and greeting some record label people, who are pleasant enough, and one of them is a sales guy, so I say "Why is this the case?" He goes "Because your packaging is a lot more expensive". I know how much the packaging costs it costs me, not them, it costs me 83 cents more to have a CD with the colour-changing ink on it. I'm taking the hit on that, not them. So I said "Well, it doesn't cost $10 more." "Ah, well, you're right, it doesn't. Basically it's because we know you've got a core audience that's gonna buy whatever we put out, so we can charge more for that. It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy it. True fans will pay whatever." And I just said "That's the most insulting thing I've heard. I've garnered a core audience that you feel it's OK to rip off? F--- you."[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Babs Still Screwing Fans
AP reports: Italian consumer groups want authorities to cancel Barbra Streisand's concert in Rome next month because of excessive ticket prices.

The Adusbef and Codacons groups urged the city of Rome and the Italian Olympic Committee to deny permission for Streisand to perform at the Stadio Flaminio on June 15. It is the 65-year-old singer's first-ever concert in Italy and the start of her European tour.

The ticket prices, which range from just under $200 to more than $1,200, are "absurd and shameful," the groups said in a statement Monday. [See full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Smashing Ticket Servers
Blabbermouth reports: When tickets for the SMASHING PUMPKINS' nine-night residency at Asheville, North Carolina's Orange Peel went on sale Sunday, TicketWeb servers weren't able to handle the load, and the demand for tickets crashed the site, bringing sales to a halt. Tickets will now be sold via Ticketmaster instead, but Orange Peel spokeswoman Liz Whalen told Asheville's Citizen-Times on Monday morning (May 21) that the venue wasn't sure whether tickets would be available Monday or Tuesday tickets were unavailable via Ticketmaster at press time. Radio RIp
Idolator.com reports: Yesterday, the LA Times ran an article on the RIAA's efforts to collect royalties from broadcast radio stations, who have, since radio's inception, not paid artists and labels after playing their songs. The argument for letting radio off the hook for these royalties revolved around the idea of radio stations offering free promotion for singles and albums, thus spurring sales and getting money into artists' pockets. Now, though, with sales in the tank, the RIAA is looking to establish a royalty structure for over-the-air broadcasters, and legislators like California representative Howard L. Berman are on the organization's side.

The weird thing about all this? It was probably unintentional, but the Times piece curiously echoed a 2002 piece from the satirical newspaper The Onion titled "RIAA Sues Radio Stations For Giving Away Free Music." After the jump, we pair three sets of quotes from each article, and invite you to sniff out which quote is from yesterday's story, and which was culled from the prescient parody. It's actually a little harder than you might think! [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
