Tad DVD
PR reports: Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll with a side dish of lawsuits and in-band turmoil, Busting Circuits and Ringing Ears chronicles TAD's rise and eventual disintegration. It contains archival footage spanning the band's entire career, from the club days to the arenas. The documentary also utilizes insightful interviews from some of Seattle's most respected musicians including Krist Novoselic (Nirvana), Chad Channing (Nirvana), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Mark Felchtone (Zeke), and many others. The DVD will hit stores February 19, 2008.

The audience will be taken on a musical journey from the highest of the highs, to the bands all time lows. It's truly a frustrating story of the band's repeated bad luck juxtaposed with a close-up look at their influential musical approach. As Charles Cross (author/writer) states in the movie, this is a story of, "What could have been as opposed to what was". - more on this story

Off With Their Heads
Contact Music reports: British singer SIMON LE BON harbours no dreams of being knighted by QUEEN ELIZABETH II - because the honour is pointless if he can't chop people's heads off.

The Duran Duran frontman wishes becoming a knight held the same privileges as it did centuries ago. He tells American magazine Blender, "I'm not that desperate to get a knighthood, to be honest with you.

"I love that whole thing of 'knights in armour', but it's just not the same anymore is it? You can't carry a sword around and chop people's heads off. What's the point?" - more on this story

New Black Crowes CD Out In March
BW&BK reports: Warpaint - THE BLACK CROWES' first album of all-new studio material in seven years, due out March 4 worldwide - will be independently released on the band's own newly formed Silver Arrow Records and distributed through Megaforce/Sony Red BMG. It's their first studio release since their Lions album in 2001 (on V2).

Produced and mixed by Paul Stacey at Allaire Studios, Woodstock, NY, the album features 11 songs, all of which were written by Chris and Rich Robinson, except 'God's Got It' by the REVEREND CHARLIE JACKSON. The album builds compellingly on the band's trademark adventurous brew of rock, blues, country, soul and gospel.

Warpaint marks the recording debut of two new band members - guitarist Luther Dickinson and keyboardist Adam MacDougall - who join Chris and Rich and drummer Steve Gorman and bassist Sven Pipien. Dickinson, of NORTH MISSISSIPPI ALLSTARS, officially steps in to replace producer/guitarist Paul Stacey, whose position with the band was always intended to be temporary. - more on this story

"I've not slept. There is such a void in every part of my life now. I can't find any words to say that make any sense of it. RIP Mr Jones
Contact Music reports: Rochester Institute of Technology film professor Jeffrey Owen Jones, who reputedly was immortalized as the "Mr. Jones" whom Bob Dylan referred to in "Ballad of a Thin Man," died on Nov. 10 of lung cancer, it was reported on Monday.

Jones had interviewed Dylan as a summer intern for Time magazine at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, shortly before Dylan wrote his song, which begins, "You walk into the room/With your pencil in your hand/You see somebody naked/And you say, 'Who is that man?'" and which ends, "Something is happening her/But you don't know what it is/Do you, Mr. Jones?"

Later, in an article in Rolling Stone, Jones wrote: "I resented the caricature but had to admit that there was something happening there at Newport in the summer of 1965, and I didn't know what it was." - More news from Contact Music

Ozzy Outlawed
SleazeRoxx.com reports: How about some mid week comic relief? This one comes courtesy of our friends at SleazeRoxx.com: Tonight's visit by Ozzy Osbourne isn't his first stop in Bakersfield, and there's an emergency ordinance still on the books to prove it. In June, 1982, when the so-called "Prince of Darkness" was at the height of his popularity, his reputation preceded him to Kern County.

At the June 9 City Council meeting, Mayor Mary Kay Shell, ''advised the Council a musical rock star scheduled to perform in Bakersfield in June sometimes makes it a practice to bite the head off a bird during or at the conclusion of his performance,'' according to 25-year-old city council minutes still maintained by City Clerk Pamela A. McCarthy.

The mayor stated that according to the City Attorney, "there is currently no law prohibiting this practice, therefore she would like to ask the Council to consider adoption of an Emergency Ordinance prohibiting this action," the minutes say.

The council immediately and unanimously voted an emergency city law prohibiting killing animals during theatrical performances -- the Ozzy Osbourne Ordinance, as it was called at the time. - more on this story

Grandma Got Run Over By a Lawyer
AP reports: A feud involving the man who sang "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" could wind up in court, just in time for Christmas.

Elmo Shropshire was sued for breach of contract Monday by a company that claims he interfered in a $1 million-plus deal to sell musical trucks, bobblehead dolls, snow globes and cookie jars featuring characters from an animated show based on the novelty song.

The tale about Santa mowing down a tipsy grandma with his sleigh was first heard in 1979 and has become a holiday favorite. It inspired a 2000 animated TV program that continues to run seasonally around the world. - more on this story

Baby Hanson Coming
PR reports: Zac Hanson, drummer for the rock group Hanson, and his wife Kate have announced they are expecting their first child in May. "I am thrilled and excited at the thought of becoming a father. I can't wait to meet this person" said Zac. While Kate added "This is truly the most amazing and exciting time for us. It's the most romantic thing we've ever done."

The expecting couple, along with band members Taylor & Isaac and their spouses spent their Thanksgiving holidays in South Africa with Toms Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie. The band was thrilled that they reached their goal of helping sell 50,000 shoes during their recent "The Walk Tour."

Toms shoes donated a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair that was purchased during the tour. In order to encourage the sale of TOMS during the tour the band staged one mile barefoot walks in 35 cities across the country speaking to their fans about the importance of taking simple actions to fight poverty and AIDS in Africa. During HANSON's 10 day trip they traveled to various cities across South Africa delivering the shoes to impoverished children in person. - more on this story

Justin Townes Earle Gets Bloodshot
PR reports: Bloodshot Records is pleased to announce a multi-album, world-wide agreement with Justin Townes Earle. His debut full-length album, The Good Life is slated to hit stores in Spring 2008. Justin will make appearances at SXSW and tour with The Felice Brothers in March and April.

With Justin Townes Earle's pedigree comes mixed blessings. As the son of legendary singer/songwriter Steve Earle, high expectations are the name of the game; but he's shown that he is up to the task, crafting stark portraits with elements of acoustic blues and folk. After a misspent youth in bluegrass/ragtime combo The Swindlers and the louder, more rocking The Distributors, the 25-year-old cleaned up his act, dropped his self-destructive habits and began to focus on songcraft.

With inspirations as diverse as Townes Van Zandt (he was named in honor of the elder Earle's hero), The Replacements, Ray Charles and The Pogues, Justin forged his own brand of American roots music. His self-released EP Yuma received great notice in Nashville Scene, Leo Weekly, The Bohemian, Twangville and others, attracting the attention of Bloodshot Records. Look for Yuma to become available in wide release through Bloodshot soon. - more on this story

.... MorleyView: Monster in The Machine<
The sound is delightfully varied with a vague '60s/'70s feel yet retaining a strong sense of individuality. It comes as the first release on his friend James "Munky" Shaffer's (Korn) label. I spoke with Shannon recently to talk about the record. - Read the full Monster in The Machine MorleyView

.... Review: In Battle - Kingdom of Fear
There isn't much to say about this CD beside it defines generic bullsh*t with predictable riffs, mindless blastbeats, and horrible pseudo-growls. Is anything original? Nope, just pick a few easy chords at calculable intervals and toss foreseen percussion patterns over it. - Read the full In Battle - Kingdom of Fear review
