Ann Wilson Week: Little Problems, Little Lies
antiMusic reports: Heart frontwoman Ann Wilson is releasing her very first solo album, Hope and Glory, next week. The album not only showcases Ann's amazing talent but she also got a little help from her friends including Elton John, Gretchen Wilson, Alison Krauss, Rufus Wainwright, and of course her sister Nancy. This week we get a little preview with Ann telling us a little bit about a few of the tracks on the CD. Here is Ann with today's song: Little Problems, Little Lies

We decided to write from the very first day, but it took me a really long time to figure out who I was and what my lyrics could be inside this album. But then I thought why don't I be a soldier in Iraq lying down to die, bewildered, and summing things up. I wanted to keep it simple and use the language someone would use at a time like that.

When we first started working on the album, some people were like "Do we dare take some sort of global, political stand?" Because generally there's music and there's this other thing way over there - politics. But it's become so pervasive, it's all fused together, now so I don't think anyone has to worry. I believe this is good music for people to hear, to help to contemplate our world now.- Preview a couple tracks off the CD, grab tour dates and more right here!

Quicks: Mickey Mouse Vs Metal- Aerosmith Recording- Solo Gomez- From Autumn To Ashes Reunion- Carey Hart Pennywise
antiMusic reports: Hot Topic Records aka Roadrunner informs us that Mickey Mouse has nixed Machine Head's show at the Anaheim House of Blues (the world's absolute WORST concert venue). Seems the kiddies think metal isn't kosher (which is surprising, you'd think the mallcore label and Disney would be a natural fit with the same demo goals.) Due to this development, Live Nation has changed the venue to the Glasshouse in Pomona (a short 70 miles away according to the brainiacs at Hot Topic Records but realistically it's only 25.66 miles. oops shouldn't have hired Goofy to write your PR) Tickets are supposedly being honored there, check the band's website for more info.

Aerosmith are heading into the studio on Nov 1st to begin recording a new album. "I'm not sure who the producer is gonna be or what (studio) we're gonna do it in," Perry tells Billboard.com. "We may use a few different producers. I don't know. All I know is that the heart and soul of the thing is us getting in the studio and seeing what comes out."

Filter reports that Ian Ball of Gomez has announced plans to release a solo record. The album, titled Who Goes There, was recorded with cohorts Will Golden (his co-producer) and keyboardist Phil Krohnengold (Duncan Sheik, Ween) after a weekend of drinking and jamming on songs. [They didn't provide a release date.]

From Autumn To Ashes original bassist Mike Pilato has rejoined the group. So naturally that means that Josh Newton gets the boot.

We end with a little PR blurb we got in the inbox: Motocross legend, reality TV star, Pink's husband- Carey Hart is known as all three. Hart recently embarked on a solo journey to this year's Warped Tour, check out the video featuring a candid interview with the superstar as well as footage of Hart performing on-stage with Pennywise. - You can check that out here

20 Ugliest People in Rock
antiMusic reports: The folks at Gigwise had some time to kill so they decided to put together a top 20 ugliest people in rock feature. Which is rather more relevant than all of those lame Blender lists. They used the term rock very loosely as the list contains people well outside of rock and it contains a bunch of British blokes we never heard of on this side of the pond.

Curiously absent is a certain metal godfather's daughter but at least they included the obvious Jacko and Courtney Love. As an added bonus Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance made the list which should send all of those emo crybabies into a tissyfit.

Gigwise says of the list, "Captured at their least flattering, there are rock stars who've deteriorated through drug abuse, those who were born naturally ugly and those who've had plastic surgery that's gone wrong." See who made the fuggly list- right here

Ozzy Zombie Arena Tour
PR reports: Ozzy Osbourne returns to the road October 18 in Seattle, WA for a massive 40-show North American fall tour in support of Black Rain - his first album of new studio material in six years - with special guest Rob Zombie. Bringing together two of rock's best and most dynamic frontmen in one unforgettable extravaganza, the tour will include stops in Seattle, Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Oakland, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Detroit and more, with a special Halloween show in Minneapolis.

Everest Rocks
antiMusic reports: Members of the Alarm, Stray Cats, The Fixx, Squeeze and Nick Harper will be playing a very usual music concert at the base camp of Mount Everest. No easy task since you can't just drive or fly to base camp, you have to hike for two weeks along with the Sherpas.

Here is a little of what organizers have to say about it: This October will be our most momentous climb and concert benefiting The Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS). Cancer survivors and co founders of the Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHSF) Mike Peters and James Chippendale will lead 40 musicians, cancer survivors and mountaineers to Base Camp to perform an acoustic concert to help the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital build the infrastructure of its clinic, NCRS, by providing them with much needed equipment and funding. In a country where the Avg. annual income is $300 a year our donation and support is going a long way to save lives NOW.

"Everest Rocks" is a fourteen day trek and acoustic concert at the base camp of Mt Everest, with a grand finale rock concert in Kathmandu. The entire journey will be captured by a documentary team headed by Alex Coletti (the acclaimed producer of MTV's 'Unplugged' series). The taping will include the training, kickoff events, trek and base camp acoustic set.

Clarkson Will Tour
antiMusic reports: Kelly Clarkson had to cancel her summer tour but now that she's kissed (ass) and made up with label chief Clive Davis she is heading out on the road in support of her new album. E! has the story: Although previous plans for an arena tour fizzled in the face of lackluster ticket sales, the pop star is now ready to hit the road in support of her latest album, My December. It has held its own on the charts, despite her label's concerns that the tracks were too edgy for Clarkson's fan base.

Tickets go on sale Sept. 15 for the 26-city theater tour, which kicks off Oct. 14 at New York's Beacon Theater. Clarkson will then crisscross the United States and Toronto, eventually winding up in Nashville on Dec. 4.

"I'm really getting pumped to get out there and rock with y'all," the two-time Grammy winner said. "We intend to blow the roofs off these theaters."- more on this story

Pavarotti RIP
antiMusic reports: Opera legend Pavarotti has lost his battle with cancer. While this has nothing to do with rock he was a loved musical figure and we couldn't let his death go without a mention. Fans gathered to mourn his passing. Here is a part of Jam!'s story:

Admirers massed by the hundreds in Modena's main piazza Thursday night to pay their final respects to Luciano Pavarotti, the tenor cherished by many as "the last, great voice" of Italian opera.

The crowd applauded as pallbearers carried the white casket into the cathedral, where a funeral Saturday will draw dignitaries from opera, politics and culture. The tenor died early Thursday in his hometown at age 71 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.

Copeland Sony Drop
antiMusic reports: Copeland landed a major label deal with Columbia less than a year ago but have already parted ways with the music giant. They said in part: There were recently some pretty significant personnel changes at the label and some key people on our team were let go, including our A&R guy.

He was the guy that brought us on board and was also our most important contact and voice there. With him gone, as well as a few other important marketing people being let go, there was really no reason for us to be there anymore. At a big label, it's pretty crucial for a band to have those key team members in place. Otherwise, a smaller band like Copeland can get lost in the shuffle of the Beyonces and John Mayers that we'd be competing with for attention.

So after months of red tape, we've been released from our contract and are frankly relieved. - more on this story

Spector Murder Case Goes To The Jury
antiMusic reports: Phil Spector's defense team tried to create reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury during the famed producer's murder trial as they delivered closing arguments on Thursday. The case now heads to the jury to see if the charges fit or acquit.

BBC reports: Prosecutors in the Phil Spector murder trial presented "speculation instead of certainty" as to who shot an actress dead at his home, defence lawyers said. In her closing statement, lawyer Linda Kenney-Baden said the prosecution put on a "stage-show" trial to cover up the "woeful" lack of scientific evidence.

She urged jurors to acquit her client, saying police wanted to convict the US music mogul because of his celebrity. Mr Spector denies killing Lana Clarkson in 2003, arguing that she shot herself.- read the full BBC report

PR reports: Collective Soul are joining the likes of other artists (Garth Brooks, The Eagles, Josh Groban, Michael Buble and George Strait) who have inked highly successful exclusive distribution deals, foregoing the traditional major label structure.

Multi-platinum hitmakers Collective Soul's new album "Afterwords" debuted this week at #25 on the Billboard Comprehensive Albums chart and #5 on Billboard's Top Digital Albums chart. The band's last studio album 'Youth' debuted at #66 in 2004.

The band performed "Hollywood" Friday, August 31st on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and is scheduled to perform on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson later this fall.
