Abba Member Dies From Gardening Accident - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: The man that provided the beats to the global Abba sensation of the 70s was found dead in the garden of his home in Spain. Police reportedly believe that Ola Brunkert died from fatal cuts on his throat after a gardening accident.

Gigwise has some more details: Sixty-two-year-old Ola Brunkert played with the band on their first single 'People Need Love' and toured with them in 1977, 1979 and 1980. He is the only musician, alongside bassist Rutger Gunnarsson, to be credited on all of the group's albums, and retired to Majorca after the break-up of the band twenty-five years ago.

The BBC reports that police believe Brunkert hit his head on a glass window on Sunday afternoon, sustaining fatal neck wounds from broken glass. He managed to wrap a towel around his neck and stagger through the garden in search of help before collapsing. - more on this story

Pete Wentz Suicide Attempt - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: Fall Out Boy spokesmodel Pete Wentz recently spoke to mtvU and explained why he is far more emo than his contemporaries since he once attempted suicide. Ok, he didn't say anything about the emo-cred thing, but why bring suicide up? Here is Rockdirt with emoriffic story: [Wentz] tells mtvU he once was so "completely lost and out of control" he tried to commit suicide.

"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and sat there and took a bunch of [anxiety drug] Ativan in a Best Buy parking lot," the 28-year-old explained.

"And I called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Ativan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring my words, so he called my mom and my mom called me and she came and got me and we went to the hospital." - more on this story

John Lennon's Final Interview Coming to DVD - 08 Rewind
PR reports: The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder: John, Paul, Tom, Ringo is finally available on DVD April 1st. This 2-DVD set first aired in 1973 and includes the last televised John Lennon interview and additional interviews with Ringo and Paul.

On April 25, 1975, John Lennon gave what was to be his last televised interview on "The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder." No one knew then that Lennon would be taking an extended hiatus from public life, taking time to raise his son and live a less public life. Speaking openly on the subjects of drug use, the breakup of the Beatles, and his immigration problems while seeking permanent residency in the U.S., the interview Lennon gave Tom Snyder in 1975 revealed he had tremendous humility and an affecting sense of humor.

Five years after that interview, Lennon was fatally shot while coming home from a recording session. The day after the shooting and Lennon's tragic death, "The Tomorrow Show" re-aired that last interview in tribute to him. Shout! Factory's "The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder: John, Paul, Tom And Ringo" contains the complete interview with Lennon as rebroadcast on December 9, 1980, along with interviews from that day with journalist Lisa Robinson and Lennon friend and producer Jack Douglas. The show is a poignant remembrance of the aftermath of his murder and the huge void his passing had on music, and indeed, the world. - more on this story

Stone Temple Tantrum Spells End of Velvet Revolver? - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: If, as Duff suggested in a recent interview, Velvet Revolver are really the frontrunners to support a reunited Led Zeppelin on tour, it looks like they will have to do it with a new vocalist.

Weiland reportedly shocked fans from the stage at the band's show last Thursday when he told the crowd "You're watching something special... the last tour by Velvet Revolver." The proclamation promoted a response from drummer Matt Sorum, which in turn prompted one of Weiland's famous tantrums... oops "statements".
When Matt Sorum took to the web on Friday to discuss what went down, he said in part, "My career and life in rock 'n' roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some. Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. With all the travelling and different beds. Personally, I love this sh*t and sometimes can't believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living. Everybody could see who was unhappy last night, but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people!!!! In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."

Weiland took offense and sent Blabbermouth one of his venom filled tirades - more

Britney Vocal Fraud? - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: What follows is clearly hearsay, but won't come as much of a shock to most people. It appears Henry Rollins may have discovered the real reason why Britney Spears lipsyncs at her concert-- the voice on her albums isn't fully Britney. In equally shocking news we learn that water is wet.

According to Jam!, Rollins told Sun Media that a studio engineer let him in on Britney's dirty little secret. "They have the black chick come in and sing, and Britney sings over it, and they mix them together," Rollins said.

"(Britney) gets her phrasing basically from this older R&B woman. I found that out talking to an engineer. Britney apparently isn't actually the worst singer, she just has no feel. So they bring in this older black woman who sings the song, then Britney sings to it, and they kind of make a mix of the two voices, and that's what you hear on the records."

The quotes in this article came from a - Jam! report

5th Beatle Dies - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: The "Fifth Beatle," Neil Aspinall, died of cancer at the age of 66. Aspinall was a longtime friend of the band and began working with them as a driver and eventually ascended to the head of their company Apple Corps Ltd until he resigned last year.

According to Transworldnews "Aspinall's involvement with the Beatles dated from 1960 when the group's original drummer, Pete Best, asked him to become their driver. After Best, Aspinall's best friend, was replaced by Ringo Starr, Aspinall stayed with the band.

AFP adds, "In 1968, he became manager of Apple Corps, reportedly on the condition that he would only do it until they found someone else. He only left the job last year." - Read the AFP report

Fall Out Boy Held Hostage - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: Fall Out Boy are being held hostage in Chili by school girls and the weather. The band's plans set a world record by playing on all seven continents is being held hostage by bad weather in Antarctica, and while the band waits for the weather to clear, they're being held hostage in a hotel in Chili that is under siege by rabid schoolgirls. MTV offered up a long report on these happenings, here are some highlights:

Early Tuesday morning (March 25), Fall Out Boy got the bad news: Nasty weather conditions had canceled all flights in and out of Antarctica, meaning that their attempt to set a world record would have to wait for at least another day.

Ever since FOB arrived in [Santiago, Chili], the front doors of the Hotel Finis Terrae have been under siege, surrounded by an ever-growing, squealing gaggle of Fall Out Boy fans. For more than a day, there's been a constant screaming mass of students in gray school uniforms camped outside, which means that setting foot on the street is nearly impossible for the band. And even when they do venture outside their rooms, they're mobbed by fans who managed to slip through security and are wandering the halls of the hotel, like ghosts in Pac Man. All of which has made their Chilean trip a bit of a downer so far. - Read the full MTV report

Axl Under New Management, Scott Weiland's - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all. At least in the Guns N' Roses universe. You see Axl has signed with a new powerhouse management team, after recently ditching Sanctuary. The small world comes into play because Axl's new management also handles Velvet Revolver's Scott Weiland. Blabbermouth has Axl's statement and a bit on Weiland connection:

"I am very pleased to announce that GUNS N' ROSES and I are now represented by the management team of Irving Azoff and Andy Gould. We are very excited and look forward to working with them and hope our relationship proves beneficial for everyone, especially the fans."

It should be noted that up until recently, Azoff Music also managed VELVET REVOLVER, the band featuring Axl's former GN'R bandmantes Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Azoff is continuing to represent VR's singer, Scott Weiland, an Azoff spokesperson confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. - more on this story

Miley Cyrus Goes Topless - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: If the leaked photos of Miley Cyrus didn't erase the squeaky clean Hannah Montana image, then the photo spread by Annie Leibovitz in Vanity Fair just might. You see ol' Hannah was asked to take off her top for the shoot and complied. Her minders at Disney are apparently not pleased at all.

This sparked quite a controversy. On one hand some might say that it was Miley growing up and following the predictable poptart path where the teen princess goes from clean Disney star to provocative sexpot (kind of disturbing since she's just 15). Others, including Miley and Disney, are claiming she was somehow manipulated into doing the shoot which she says she told was going to be "artistic." Perhaps Miley (or her parents and managers) never heard of the David Hamilton's version of "art" before when she agreed to do a "artistic" photo shoot for a magazine known for racy photos of celebs. "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said in a statement. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

Vanity Fair have a different memory of what happened, "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day," the magazine told Entertainment Tonight. "Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley." - more on this story

Weiland Going To Jail - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: The Stone Temple Pilots reunion tour may have just hit a snag as frontman Scott Weiland has been sentenced to jail time. While he's only been sentence to what works out to be 8 days, the STP tour starts on May 17th and his deadline to serve is May 28th. So he'll have to find some time during the next three weeks to serve his sentence.

TMZ has more on the sentencing: Rockstar Scott Weiland has just been sentenced to 192 hours in county jail for his November DUI arrest. This is Weiland's second DUI offense. Scott, who was not present in court today, entered a no contest plea through his attorney, Anthony Brooklier. The former Velvet Revolver singer was also ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol program and pay almost $2,000 in fine. He will be put on a four-year summary probation.

Weiland was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol with a prior conviction, and with an allegation that he refused a chemical test as required by law. We are told he was over the legal limit of .08%, but not by much. - more on this story

Fan Sues Fall Out Boy Over Beating - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: When you think of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, the last thing you assume is that he is capable of giving someone a beat down. That's probably true, but add some security dude to the mix and you're looking a lawsuit waiting to happen. According to TMZ that's exactly what transpired: Wentz is being sued by a guy who claims the makeup-wearing, emo rocker and his security beat him at a Fall Out Boy show last year.

According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Andy Kallas claims was watching the boys perform at Schuba's Tavern in Chicago, when Wentz and his peeps beat him to a pulp for several minutes.

Kallas claims he suffered "serious injuries to his head, mouth and face." The way the lawsuit reads, the attack was totally unprovoked. But here's the deal. We're told Kallas was loud, obnoxious and heckling the band before the incident. - more on this story

Guns N' Roses Almost Reunited - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: Scott Weiland dropped a bomb in a new interview with Classic Rock magazine. During the conversation he not only said that he thinks his former Velvet Revolver bandmates should reunite with Axl Rose, but he also said that they almost did. Blabbermouth has posted part of the interview including this discussion:

When asked if an alternative to this heated situation between him and the rest of VELVET REVOLVER would that they all cool off, do their separate projects and then regroup and see how the land lies, Weiland replied, "I think they should get GUNS N' ROSES back together, to tell you the truth. I think that would be the greatest thing that they could do. I think the world would be very happy.

"If they could stop talking trash about Axl [Rose, GN'R singer] in the press. It almost happened. The pens were ready to sign. With the 'Greatest Hits', there was a possibility [of a reunion], but there was too much stuff being said. But it was a close call. I would love to see that happen, as a Guns N' Roses fan. I'd pay to see it." - They went on to ask Duff about this. Read what he had to say

Bon Jovi Escort Scandal - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: Has Bon Jovi given an Aussie cop a bad name? Seems there is a scandal brewing Down Under with cop acting as unauthorized escorts to popstars and Bon Jovi is reportedly in the middle of it. Sleazeroxx has the details: It looks like Melbourne has a groupie police officer. Following the k.d. lang unauthorized police escort scandal in Melbourne, Australia earlier this week, police are now investigating a similar incident involving Bon Jovi.

An anonymous caller into radio station 3AW's Rumour File segment on the breakfast show has unveiled that, like k.d. lang, Bon Jovi also received a police escort without approval from the department.

Bon Jovi toured Australia in May for Paul Dainty. Dainty is also touring k.d. lang. The Victoria police department has not confirmed if one "groupie" police officer was involved with Bon Jovi and k.d. lang or if the department has a pop star fixation epidemic. - more on this story

Nickelback Singer Guilty - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: "This is how you convict me." That just may be the new line in Nickelback's breakthrough hit after frontman Chad Kroeger was convicted of drunk driving by a Canadian court.

According to the Canadian press, "Kroeger, whose real name is Chad Turton, had almost twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he was stopped for speeding in Surrey, B.C., in June of 2006."

Kroeger's attorney tried in vain to have the court toss out the charge on technicalities. One claim was the cops took too long to conduct the test and the other argument was the cops conducted an illegal search by asking Kroeger to blow in his face to confirm that he smelled alcohol. The judge reportedly didn't buy either claim. - more on this story
