Cold Reunion
antiMusic reports: This is perhaps the biggest rock news of the year (right behind the hype surrounding the Cruefest!) That's right folks, Cold is back! Metal Underground has the story:

Cold frontman Scooter Ward has announced that the band will once again reunite and are planning to record a brand new studio album which expected to be released in the Fall of next year.

The band originally broke up in February of 2006 but reunited two months later only to disband in November of the same year. - more metal news

Would Johnny Depp Make A Good Tommy Lee?
Sleazeroxx reports: Tommy Lee wants Johnny Depp to play him in a film. The Motley Crue rocker insists the Oscar-nominated actor would be the perfect star to portray him.

He said: "Johnny Depp would be my choice to play me. He's the best ever." Tommy also revealed he is currently in talks with movie producers to start shooting the film, which will be based on the story of Motley Crue.

He added: "We're working on it. Trying to find the right producers and director and all that sort of stuff!" [Our vote goes for Ashton Kutcher. Is there really any difference between Tommy and Kelso?. If he's too big for the role, maybe Dustin Diamond would be into it? Pauly Shore isn't doing anything right now either] - more on this story

Universal Gets Stoned
House of Rock reports: After months of speculation, The Rolling Stones have left EMI for Universal Music Group. UMG said that the new deal with the Stones covers a portion of their back catalog and any future releases.

The agreement gives the Polydor imprint any new records from the band, along with full digital and physical rights to releases. The deal also puts the distribution rights for the entire Stones catalog in one place for the first time.

UMG already had distribution rights to the band's early catalog, up to 1970. The new agreement now includes everything from 1971's Sticky Fingers onward. - more on this story

Bon Jovi Scores In Another Arena
TMZ reports: Since we doubt many people follow it, here is some news about one of Jon Bon Jovi's investments (they have to overcharge fans for a reason).

TMZ has the scoop: Jon Bon Jovi may have seen a million faces and rocked them all, but, until now, he couldn't claim the most pointless title in footballdom: The Arena Football League Championship.

Bon Jovi is the proud co-owner of the Philadelphia Soul, who won the title game today by scoring more points than the other team. - If sarcasm flies right over your head, you can join the chorus of jeers for that last line and see a

Screeched By the Tell All
Hecklerspray reports: Poor old Dustin Diamond. His fellow Saved By The Bell alumni have all moved on - Elisabeth Berkley has her nudity and Mario Lopez has his gratuitous self-love, for example - but he hasn't.

But don't feel sorry for Dustin Diamond because he's doomed to spend the rest of his life stereotyped into a perpetual inescapable vacuum where he'll only be known as Screech from Saved By The Bell to everyone he ever meets all the time forever until he dies, because some good has come out of it.

Dustin Diamond, you see, has decided to use his notoriety to pen a no-holds-barred Saved By The Bell tell-all book that'll chronicle the cast's naughty shenanigans in a frank and shocking manner. Honestly? We're underwhelmed. Now, if there was a Hangin' With Mr Cooper tell-all book coming out - more on this story

Shocker: Loverboy Plan A Concert and No One Buys Tickets
Sleazeroxx reports: The City of Summerside, P.E.I. has cancelled a Loverboy concert scheduled for August after selling only about 200 tickets.

The band was scheduled to play Credit Union Place, which holds 5,000, on Aug. 6. The cancellation means the city loses the deposit the city paid to the band. Bill Schurman, director of community services for Summerside, refused to disclose how much the deposit was.

"We don't disclose what we pay our bands. That's something that's quite confidential," Schurman told CBC News Friday. The decision to cancel the concert was mutual, said Schurman. - more on this story

Inside Track Week: Keaton Simons
antiMusic reports: One of our main goals here is turn people on to music and we've found that the best people to tell you about the music is the musicians themselves, so this week we are giving you the inside track on three promising up and coming artists. Today we feature Keaton Simons who tells us about the songs on his new album "Can You Hear Me," which echoes his varied influences ranging from Hendrix, Dylan, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell to Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Robert Johnson. Stylistically he is just as varied, immersed himself in all forms of music, from Rock to Jazz, Blues to Bluegrass. Here is Keaton to tell us about the songs on the album:

1. WITHOUT YOUR SKIN - I'm fascinated with dichotomy. One of my favorites is the global and possibly even universal connection between all things and the complete individuality and autonomy of all things. That's the grand answer. The more down to earth one is the connection between two people who are so close that one may actually feel "naked" without the other.

2. NOBODY KNOWS - I wrote this song with The Matrix (an amazingly talented and successful writing and production team). The song is basically about an affair I had many years ago. It sheds light on some of the less popular perspectives about infidelity. It also shows the tendency for people to think they know what's "really going on" in a situation that they may actually know very little about. This song doesn't condone cheating. It just realizes the entire reality of it.

Cheat the Gallows was recorded at Kung Fu Gardens studios in North Hollywood and produced by Bigelf frontman Damon Fox. The album features 10 diverse tracks of hallucinatory hard rock, showcasing the band's multi-layered arrangements, rich, sophisticated vocal harmonies and Fox's spectacular dual-Mellotron / Hammond organ / Moog synthesizer saturations.

The Boy Will Drown of an Earache
Our Caps Lock Key Is Like A Hit of Crack To Us Records reports: EARACHE is proud to announce the signing of British technical metallers THE BOY WILL DROWN to a multi-album, worldwide recording deal.

THE BOY WILL DROWN are a four-piece band based in Norwich/Colchester in the UK who formed in late 2006. Currently regarded as one of the most flamboyant and intense bands in the UK, they play a vicious blend of technical and experimental music based around grindcore and death metal.

Refusing to play "sugar-coated" metal like so many other bands, THE BOY WILL DROWN do everything in their power to mesmerise and pulverise the listener, whilst simultaneously injecting an element of humour, fun and youth into the otherwise serious face of the extreme metal genre. Drawing influence from such bands as DECAPITATED, NECROPHAGIST and PSYOPUS, THE BOY WILL DROWN create music that's technically breathtaking, with punishing metal riffage, yet still retains that "groove" factor. - more on this story

Level-C Hints That All Female Metal Bands Before Them Weren't Real

Women Make A Deal
PR reports: Jagjaguwar has just announced the signing of Women, and will release the band's self-titled debut full length on October 7th, 2008 throughout the world (January, 2009 release in the UK, and Canadian label Flemish Eye is releasing the record in Canada.)

The band will tour the U.S., Canada and Europe in support of the album throughout 2008, and tour dates will be announced soon.

The band's debut was recorded by Sub Pop and Flemish Eye artist Chad VanGaalen over 4 months on ghettoblasters and old tape machines in his basement, an outdoor culvert and a crawlspace. Sometimes light and spacious, at other times eerie and dense with an ominous weight, Women hint at the Velvet Underground, Swell Maps or This Heat; a lo-fi masterpiece cloaked in layers of vibrato and guitar wash. - more on this story

Temujin Delay Tour To Record New Songs
Renaissance Records reports: Temujin wish to announce that the North American live dates originally planned for late 2008 have been rescheduled to 2009. Instead, the band will be bringing forward plans to record new material, which should begin sometime in August.

The change in schedule has been brought about because lead vocalist Kelly is expecting her second child in mid November.

"We are disappointed that we won't be able to bring our music to the US as planned ... but very excited about the arrival of a new child. We'll now focus on writing and recording in the lead up to the birth, and then launch into 2009 with new material and a return to live work. Nothing is cancelled - just rearranged! And a new child means that 2009 will be a fantastic year both personally and professionally - we can't wait."

Marrow Sets Depressing Release
PR reports: Marrow's debut CD, 'Quiet Desperation,' is scheduled for release on September 16, 2008, with regional east and west coast US tours in August through September 2008 already scheduled.

The launch of 'Quiet Desperation' will be backed by an aggressive viral video internet campaign touting Marrow's endorsement from a fictitious, and ludicrous, 'foundation for unhappiness enhancement,' "The Society for the Advancement of Despair," (SAD), whose tagline is 'Bliss is Ignorance.'

In an endeavor to skewer the notion that all people must adopt and maintain a constant state of forced happiness and serenity to lead fulfilling lives, 'The Society for the Advancement of Despair' wants you to be left alone to wallow in your sadness in order to explore the depths of your discontentment, because it feels good to feel bad. Marrow's 'Quiet Desperation,' already the self-proclaimed 'feel bad album of the year,' is "the prescription for your pain", that will help the listener embrace their well-earned sadness. - more on this story

Jim Boggia's Misadventures In Stereo
PR reports: Misadventures In Stereo, the third album by widely lauded singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jim Boggia, is unmistakably the work of a true believer and pop craftsman who's closely acquainted with music's capacity for transcendent uplift.

His confessional, deeply personal lyrics tap into the deepest and most universal of human emotions. Born blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other, Boggia grew up an only child with an acutely developed ear for music.

His early fascination for such iconoclastic pop classics as the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society, Nilsson Sings Newman and Stevie Wonder's Innervisons helped to inform an aesthetic sensibility that would push him to create album-length listening "experiences" on his own releases. - more on this story

Ernie Halter Week: Day 1
antiMusic reports: It's hard to find a unique "singer/songwriter" in this day and age. The mere mention of the "genre" is enough to put most people to sleep, but there are a few exceptions and Ernie Halter is one of them with his unique mix of rock, soul and pop. Ernie's new album "Starting Over" debuted on the top 25 of the iTunes rock charts earlier this month and with the physical CD hitting stores next week we asked Ernie to tell us a little bit about the songs. Here is Ernie with today's song:

"Count the days": I wrote this song quickly in L.A. This song was about finding love again. There is a part in this song that is actually an inside joke with my girlfriend. The part "I miss you like children miss summer" was part of a little testing game that we would do while I was out on the road.

We would text each other little "I miss you texts like.....". A good example is "I miss you like Jenna Jameson misses her virginity" or something funny like that.

Hearing is believing, so go grab a listen and learn more about Ernie and his new album right - here
