Metallica Holding Back Guns N' Roses?
Blabbermouth reports: According to an online posting by Fernando Lebeis, the son of Beta Lebeis Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose's personal assistant the release of the band's new video for the song "Better" is being held up by a legal matter involving Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich.

Although exact details are sketchy, it appears that Ulrich's image is featured in the clip and his release form needs to be signed before the video can be distributed and promoted to music video television programmers worldwide.

Responding to questions on the Guns N' Roses fan board MyGNRForum.com regarding the delay in the release of the "Better" clip, Fernando Lebeis wrote, "Tell Lars to OK the vid and it's done. That's all that is pending." When asked by a fan who the "Lars" was that he was referring to, Fernando replied, "Lars Ulrich. We are pending his release form to be signed."

Coldplay Deny Virgins
antiMusic reports: To say it's a dead news day is an understatement. With that mind here is a fun Coldplay story from Angry Ape:

Coldplay have revealed they are pretty tame when it comes to touring, even joking that they don't "deflower any virgins" when on the road supporting latest album 'Viva La Vida'.

"There's sort of a whole heap of things that we do before the show," explains guitarist Johnny Buckland. "Obviously we get changed, we do a bit of singing, play the guitar and just sort of relax for a bit before."

"But we don't deflower any virgins or anything like that." Buckland added. - more on this story

antiMusic reports: We noticed something rather strange when compiling our special recap for the top stories of 2008. While we are a rock site we do from time to time include reports on vapid popsters as sort of a goof. But we were rather shocked to learn that the most read articles this year were about Miley Cyrus. Of course the reports had to do with nude photos but what does that say about the state of music? Or are there just a lot of pedophiles out there interested in photos of half-naked young teens? You'll have to decided that one for yourself. With that said, here are today's quick news stories:

All I can hope is that I'll see him in the light."

Tabloid Media Zombies spammed us with this useless tidbit (It's TMZ so that's not a surprise): A Florida florist wants a piece of Timbaland's mansion after the rap mogul allegedly stiffed the store out of more than $10,000 in Xmas decorations. The White Tulip Florist in Miami Beach filed legal papers required to slap a lien on Timba's Miami mansion, claiming he bought $25,850 worth of trees, flowers and lights but still owes $11,450. more

Axl Vs Guitar Hero
antiMusic reports: Seems that Guns N' Roses is the only band making news this holiday season. Here is another GNR related story. this time from our friends at Metal Underground: Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has issued an open letter to the makers of Guitar Hero saying the use of songs such as Welcome To The Jungle and Sweet Child O' Mine in the hugely popular game were "unauthorized".

However the singer didn't mind ex-bandmate Slash being associated with it. "[Slash] being in Guitar Hero is fine, but not when Activison is using Welcome To The Jungle unauthorized," wrote Rose. "I wasn't broadsided I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That's some low life chicanery on all their parts."

"Yes, Slash was in Guns and on Welcome To The Jungle and he has rights to perform it," he continued. "But not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren't granted the license it'll take some sorting."

L.A. Guns Reality Show
antiMusic reports: Keeping with our GNR themed Day in Rock, here is a story about the man that inspired the Guns in Guns N' Roses. Blabbermouth reports: A television show based on the Tracii Guns-led version of L.A. GUNS is currently being shopped to different networks. The guitarist stated in an online posting, "Our label paid to have the show made. I saw the first six episodes ----ing hilarious! Once the show is sold, then we find out the air dates, then we start marketing dollars for the release of the [group's new studio] record, so as of now it's a waiting game."

He added, "The name of the band will not be L.A. GUNS for this TV show and album, but we will do some nostalgia shows and festivals as L.A. GUNS basically just having fun and playing tunes."

Tracii Guns' L.A. GUNS is not to be confused with the Phil Lewis-fronted group, which is also continuing to record and perform under the L.A. GUNS moniker. Tracii Guns new album featuring new singer Marty Casey will be released next year via Alexus Records.

Top Music Quotes of 08
antiMusic reports: Jam! has gathered together some of the most memorable quotes of 2008. While most of them are rather boring( like the musicians they are attributed to - see the first two quotes below), here are a few pretty good ones:

"I know I get bad reviews, but everyone gets bad reviews. And I don't care because they're f------ wrong!" -- Avril Lavigne. Keep telling yourself that Advil.

"Apparently they were up in arms when they found out he was gay, but I knew he was. I mean, how could they not know that?" -- Suzie McNeil, who dueted with Clay Aiken on the Claymates.

"God bless 'em but that's not Led Zeppelin. I find it completely depressing. I'd never do anything like that." -- Chris Cornell, on the possibility of replacing Robert Plant if Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones decide to tour as Led Zeppelin next year.

"In my mind, if you're starting by bringing in someone like Sheryl to do Christine's songs, it starts to get a little loungey." -- Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsay Buckingham, on an eventually dismissed idea to have Sheryl Crow fill in for Christine McVie on the band's 2009 tour.

Metallica Winged: Lars Ulrich's Talent Questioned
antiMusic reports: Despite having a Metallica related story already today, we couldn't resist this one. Enjoy: Winger frontman Kip Winger was recently interviewed by rock & roll comic C.C. Banana. Over the course of this irreverent interrogation, Kip discusses his new solo album, his experiences touring with loose cannon Jani Lane and his current feelings toward Lars Ulrich, who famously threw darts at a photo of Kip in Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" music video.

Kip also reveals his intentions to record another album with Winger and responds to criticisms made earlier this year by Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, who referred to Winger as a "----e band." Our favorite excerpt from the interview follow:

C.C. Banana: Have you ever thrown darts at a photo of Lars Ulrich? - Kip Winger: I've never done that. I really never had anything against the guy. In fact, when I first heard Metallica's Black Album, I thought it was a really cool record... and then they just started taking shots at me, for whatever reason. But it's okay, Lars is not really that talented. He's got a lot of ----ing money, though, so I'm sure he's happy. I actually felt sorry for him when I saw that "Some Kind of Monster" documentary. He was sitting there next to his dad, just seething with unmoved emotion over things that were still unresolved. It was really kind of sad to watch. But I do like Metallica, they're a good band.

To End the Year we are looking back at some of the top stories of 2008

. 2008 News Rewind: September
Britney Sex Tape? - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: We must warn you once again to take the following with a ton of salt because it originates from a UK tabloid, which do not have a very good track record of credibility (what? 10-15% maybe?) but alas it's another BS story we can have some fun with, so we ran with it.

Jam! reports: Britney spears' paparazzo ex Adnan Ghalib is [REPORTEDLY] attempting to cash in on his relationship with the singer by selling off a sex tape allegedly featuring the star.

The British snapper dated Spears on and off for several months during the last year, and claims to be in possession of raunchy video footage in which she wears nothing more than a pink wig. The two-hour long tape was allegedly recorded while the couple was on vacation in Mexico. - more on this story

Plant Sinks Zeppelin Tour Hopes - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: So much for unnamed sources, on Monday we heard from Robert Plant himself about where he stands on a Led Zeppelin reunion tour; it's not going to happen.

The latest rumor was sparked from a UK press report that said Robert Plant agreed to a reunion tour after rumors circulated that that Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were planning to tour with another singer out in front of the group.

"It's both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward," Robert Plant said. "I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects." - Page, Jones and Bonham have reportedly been working together of late with a "cover" singer.

"A 45-year-old man was arrested on 19 September on suspicion of possession of drugs in the Hampstead Heath area," a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

Hagar Explains Why He Left Van Halen - 08 Rewind
antiMusic reports: MusicRadar has an interview where Sammy Hagar explains why he really left Van Halen. Here is part of that article: Sammy Hagar already left Van Halen once in the mid-'90s, but as he said to MusicRadar, he was convinced to come back for a 2004 "Van Hagar" reunion tour.

It was a sell-out success, but things went sour quickly, and as Hagar reveals, "I think it's because somebody got to Eddie. Somebody poisoned him."

Hagar told MusicRadar, "It got to the point where I was the leader of that band. Eddie was a humble, meek guy. Greatest guitar player in the world, but not a leader. I would write the lyrics, and Eddie was happy to just play guitar and play piano. But he woke up one morning and he decided he wanted his band back. Like I was taking over and I was just the bad guy." - more on this story

My Bloody Valentine Planning New Album - 08 Rewind
guardian.co.uk reports: My Bloody Valentine to record new album. Kevin Shields and his band are to begin work on their first album in 17 years after he realized the material he abandoned in 1996 was pretty good after all.

Shields confirmed the rumors at the My Bloody Valentine-curated All Tomorrow's Parties festival this weekend, taking his earplugs out for long enough to talk to the New York Times.

He will be returning to songs started over a decade ago, during abortive sessions for Island Records. "I realized that all that stuff I was doing in 1996 and 1997 was a lot better than I thought," he said. - more on this story
