Mario Frasca Returns with Evince
PR reports: Since parting ways with Speed\Kill/Hate in 2006, vocalist Mario Frasca has been keeping busy writing, producing and putting together a brand new band. In addition to Frasca, the forcible lineup going under the name - Evince, consists of Finnish guitarist Jani Hentila, bassist Jussi Heikkinen (Gloomy Grim, Soul Grind) and drummer Rainer 'Raikku' Tuomikanto (ex-Dead Shape Figure).

Upon speaking about how the collaboration came about Frasca states, "Jani and I connected through the internet and instantly hit it off. We immediately started passing guitar riffs and arrangement ideas to each other and within a very short period of time compiled enough material for a full album." Frasca adds, "There must be something in the water in Finland that helps produce such great musicians. We were fortunate enough to have guitarists Roope Latvala of Children of Bodom and Emil Werstler of Daath shred some solos on a couple of tunes. Both of them are insane players and it's a total honor to have them on it."

Theresa Andersson Sets Release For CD Recorded in Her Kitchen
PR reports: Melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre; these are the traditional building blocks of pop music. Yet although you will find them in abundance on Hummingbird, Go!, the new album by Swedish born Theresa Andersson set to be released on September 2, 2008, hardly sounds like conventional pop.

That's because the New Orleans singer-songwriter chose to approach her craft from different perspectives before she even began composing. Playing every instrument on the album with the help of a loop pedal, she took elements from her life and surroundings - her Swedish upbringing, New Orleans home, the locusts in her garden, the soda pop bottles in her kitchen - to create the uniquely beautiful tracks on Hummingbird, Go!.

Andersson's kitchen-turned-recording-studio is just another quirky addition to her DIY approach. "The kitchen sounds amazing, it has wonderful, natural reverb," Andersson explains. Even the room itself is audible, particularly on the vintage R&B of "Introducing the Kitchenettes." She recorded and, ultimately, finished the album in her kitchen creating sounds to match what she heard in her head. - more on this story

Song for Ne'er Do Wells
PR reports: Luke Doucet's 'Blood's Too Rich' (Six Shooter, 6.24) is a sonic diary of encounters with interesting drifters and ne'er-do-wells, but the title track "Blood's Too Rich" takes a closer look at those in his own family tree.

"In Canada, sometimes we musicians mock ourselves by noting that we are too famous for the subway--too poor for a cab. The song also recognizes that we don't choose as much about ourselves as we think we can.

"Much of who we are is encoded in our DNA and maybe we should accept that. The cult of self help lurks in the shadows but maybe serves to make us more unhappy?" - Listen to "Blood's Too Rich"

Swervedriver And Handsome Furs Members Cover Each Other
PR reports: White Whale Records is very proud to be releasing the Shine A Light 7" with Handsome Furs (Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade) and Adam Franklin (Swervedriver) covering a track by each others "other" band

Fans were searching for it. What happened to the "Shine A Light" Wolf Parade cover that was supposed to close the highly anticipated Adam Franklin debut Bolts of Melody? Adam had been closing shows with the song on tour and it was in the press releases for the record, but, upon release, it wasn't there. Did a recorded version exist?

Then, there it was, posted on myspace. A lush, intimate version of Shine A Light as only Adam Franklin could do it. But, 2 days later it was removed. "Could you put it back?" "Post the mp3?" One fan went so far as to ask whether Adam was too much of a rock star to take 30 seconds to personally send him the ascap-doesnt-want-labels-to-promote-their-artists-go-with-bmi-next-time. A slew of responses erupted on the blog. - more on this story

Does Teddy Thompson Have What You Need?
PR reports: Teddy Thompson's fourth album, 'A Piece Of What You Need,' will be released on June 17 via Verve Forecast. Grammy nominee Marius DeVries, longtime Bjork, David Gray and Rufus Wainwright collaborator, produced the album.

The first single, "In My Arms," is a fun poppy throwback, complete with handclaps and Farfisa organ. Thompson, known for his crisp, soothing voice and songwriting talent, picks up where he left off on his acclaimed 2006 sophomore album 'Separate Ways' with clever songcraft, good-natured but dark humor and moods from the cheerful to the melodramatic.

Teddy is the son of British folk icons Richard and Linda Thompson, and co-wrote Linda's most recent album, the acclaimed 'Versatile Heart.' He's collaborated with Martha and Rufus Wainwright, and his songs have been featured in the films 'Brokeback Mountain' and '40 Days And 40 Nights.' - more on this story
