Dog Kept Axl and Slash From Reuniting
Rolling Stone reports: Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach has revealed to RollingStone.com that he nearly got former Guns N' Roses bandmates Axl Rose and Slash back together, to rock out with Sly Stone:

"I actually talked on the phone to Sly Stone because I always wanted to do obscure covers of Sly Stone songs," Bach said. "I want to do them in the style of 'Back in the Saddle' from [Bach's new solo album] 'Angel Down'. I had a whole session ready to go. Sly said, 'I'd love Axl and Slash to come play on this.' I texted Axl and said, 'Would you be interested in singing with Sly Stone on some music?' He goes, 'Yeah. If this is a real album that Sly's doing, I will come down there and sing with you guys.'

"I was footing the bill for this session on my own. I had everyone ready to go. At the very last minute my manager calls Sly and says, 'What's Sly going to need?' Sly wanted me to buy him a dog. He gave me this information on a specific kennel in northern California in Napa Valley and a specific breed for one puppy that he wanted me to buy for him for $8,500. That was the straw that broke the camel's back on the session." - more on this story

Metallica Cover Maiden
Metal Underground reports: Metallica has revealed that they recorded a cover of Iron Maiden's "Remember Tomorrow," off the band's self-titled debut album. Here's the update from Metallica'a MySpace blog:

"We were honored to be asked to participate in Kerrang's exclusive 'Maiden Heaven' tribute album... one of those super cool Kerrang! CD's that you can only get when you buy the mag. In this case, the issue (1219) goes on sale in the UK on July 16 and for those of you somewhere else, you can pick it up online at http://www.kerrang.com.

"We picked 'Remember Tomorrow' from Iron Maiden's self titled first album... it was basically the blueprint for songs like 'Fade to Black' and 'Sanitarium' and when we were jamming our way thru most of our favorite early Maiden songs, this one stood out and also came together somewhat effortlessly... we had a blast recording it at HQ in the middle of all the insanity of the last two weeks of finishing the new album back in May. Some of our other favorite bands recorded their own versions of Maiden songs too... Machine Head, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed And Cambria, Dream Theater to name a few. - full tracklisting

The Very Best of Little Richard
conqueroo reports: When Little Richard recorded "Tutti Frutti" in 1955 at Cosimo's Studio in New Orleans with A&R man Bumps Blackwell, rock 'n' roll was taken to a thrilling new level. Cory Chisel Blends Americana and Delta Blues with Cabin Ghosts
PR reports: Cory Chisel forged his first connection to the power of song through the music he heard, and made, in church. His father was a Baptist minister, his mother played piano during services, and an upbringing surrounded by sermons and spirituals instilled in Cory the passion and portent of language and melody, and a fluency in the gospel's rich vernacular of loss and redemption.

Based in Appleton, WI with his band, The Wandering Sons, Chisel's upcoming six song EP, "Cabin Ghosts" reflects the inspiration of his upbringing with a spare Americana-saturated sound that is its own exquisite blend of folk-country and Delta blues. [the pr didn't include a release date] With his voice full of soul and longing, Chisel's expressive vocals and the Sons' loosely orchestrated, impeccable playing emerge fully formed yet somehow familiar and as confident in its sonics as in its lyrical echoes of existential grace and mystery. - more on this story

Highschool Musical Goes Generic Emo Pop
antiMusic reports: Before we get to this PR we have to say that we have nothing against The Faded per se, but it takes a major stretch of the definition of punk to include them in that genre. It's sort of like calling N Sync metal. In fact, the song that the following PR is about sounds far closer to N Sync than Social Distortion.

To be fair the band call themselves "alternative rock" but then toss in a bunch of genres to describe their sound (which includes mid-80s techno-punk among others, we didn't hear this at all. Maybe they were referring to the leadsinger's hair cut being as silly as A Flock of Seagulls?) but they basically sounds like any generic emo-pop band you'll find on the Warped tour.

The reason we are making an issue of this is because it's getting a bit old hearing record labels toss out bogus labels for generic bands trying to make them sound like they are something different. These labels should instead turn their concentration on finding bands that are really different and then the "marketing" will be a bit more honest. - With all that said here is the PR:
