Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity Week: Day 2
antiMusic reports: Described as psychedelic indie-rock / space pop that used "Abbey Road" as a reference when it came to mixing their new CD "Santiago's Vest," Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity caught our attention. So we asked Gary to pick some of his favorite tracks from the CD and tell us about them. Today Gary tells us about the song "Who Do You Love?":

This is one I've had hanging around for a while. It was written on the acoustic guitar and had a kind of old school blues feel to it. I tried to record it for the "Instant Happiness" album but it didn't turn out. So we redid it when we were working on the EP and put an entirely different spin on it. Once again, it didn't fit on the EP but it worked out beautifully on "Santiago's Vest" It's the song that has pulled the band in a new direction. I was singing something like, "and in the morning I'll arrives" but I didn't like it, so when it came down to crunch time for lyrics I thumbed through some magazines and I pulled out "insiders guide" and " high speed drive" from an ad about cars or hair spray or something and it kind of sparked the whole lyric of the tune.

Now it's up to you to be the ultimate judge, go grab a listen to their songs and see if you agree that this is an exciting new indie release. Samples, tour dates and more about the band can be - found here.

As a result a number of shows have been "postponed" including the shows scheduled for this week. There was some speculation the entire tour was axed and TMZ quoted unnamed sources on Sunday saying the band had pulled the plug on the run. Here is the band statement: The Van Halen concerts in Dallas, Cincinnati, Raleigh, and Baltimore have been postponed. According to Eddie Van Halen's physician, he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures.

The March 3rd Dallas concert at American Airlines Center has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2008; Cincinnati's March 5th concert at U.S. Bank Arena has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd; Raleigh's March 7th concert at RBC Center has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 13th; and Baltimore's March 9th concert at 1st Mariner Arena has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 15th. - more on this story

Muse Set HAARP Release
PR reports: British trio Muse will release a live CD/DVD titled HAARP on April 1st. Filmed at London's Wembley Stadium on June 17, 2007, the DVD captures the exuberant spectacle of the band performing in front of a sold-out crowd of nearly 75,000 ecstatic fans, while the CD features audio from the band's show on the previous night, June 16th. Both discs include tracks from their latest album, Black Holes and Revelations, including Modern Rock chart hits "Knights Of Cydonia," "Starlight," and "Supermassive Black Hole."

Muse's electrifying shows at Wembley demonstrate the raw power and ambition of one of Britain's most successful bands. The shows were heralded by the U.K. press: Kerrang! said of Saturday's show: "What a gig. What a night. What a band," while The Guardian suggested that "few are more suited than Muse to take on what Pele described as the 'cathedral of football.'" Muse was the first band to play the recently rebuilt stadium, which had previously played host to a number of prestigious musical events over the years, including Live Aid in 1985 and the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert in 1988.

Idol Calls On Real Stars For Charity Show
antiMusic reports: When it comes to charity, mediocre karaoke singers just won't do and all you have to do is say the word charity and Bono comes running [much to his credit of course]. We're talking about American Idol once again putting on their Idol Gives Back special. The two-hour special will air on Fox April 9th.

Idol producers enlisted some other big names to take part (as well as some throw-aways that will be forgotten in a few years. Though Paula won't go away.) Here is part of the official PR on the event with hyperbole included: This year's event will be bigger and more ambitious than ever, and will feature incredible international talent including Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend and Snoop Dogg. Additional artists scheduled to appear to be announced.

The star-studded evening will echo the success of last year's IDOL GIVES BACK, which raised over $76 million for various U.S. charities that deliver support to underprivileged children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the country, providing them with medical care, food and grocery products, health and life skills and literacy programs, among other important initiatives. - more on this story

Nine Inch Nails Seeing Ghosts
PR reports: Nine Inch Nail's Ghosts I-IV was released 6:00 p.m. PST March 2, 2008 via NIN.com: a four volume collection of 36 untitled instrumental tracks, nearly two hours of music, recorded over a 10-week period last fall.

Ghosts I-IV was conceived as an experiment: Following the conclusion of 2007's Year Zero album, alternate reality game and touring campaign, Trent Reznor enlisted Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder with help from Alessandro Cortini, Adrian Belew and Brian Viglione to create spontaneous, impulsive soundtracks to daydreams with no agenda or release date, only a self-imposed 10-week time limit. Rob Sheridan collaborated with Artist in Residence (A+R) to create the accompanying visual and physical aesthetic.

The end result is a wildly varied body of work released in its entirety with no label-imposed limitations--musical, physical or otherwise. - more on this story
