Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity Week: Day 5
antiMusic reports: Described as psychedelic indie-rock / space pop that used "Abbey Road" as a reference when it came to mixing their new CD "Santiago's Vest," Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity caught our attention. So we asked Gary to pick some of his favorite tracks from the CD and tell us about them. Today Gary tells us about the songs "Everybody's Somewhere" and "Where do we go from here?":

Everybody's Somewhere: This song came together in two parts. I had originally written the main electric piano riff on guitar. I thought it was pretty good but the B part of the song was going nowhere. When I was writing, "Where do we go from here" there was this "Beach Boys" sounding part that I really liked but wasn't really working for the song. So I transposed it and stuck it on the riff to "Everybody's somewhere". I'd always wanted to do a song where I got to bang on a Wurlitzer note like that old Queen song "you're my best friend" so I switched the song to keys. - Where do we go from here?

Van Halen in Rehab?
Metal Underground reports: [We're including this on the off chance it may be true. But read with a pound of salt.] According to Pr-inside.com, sources tell the National Enquirer [Eddie Van Halen] checked himself into a clinic near San Antonio, Texas, so he could detox for a week after a furious backstage bust-up in Florida with his 17-year-old son and bandmate Wolfgang.

An insider says, "It was the big what-if of the tour - whether Eddie could stay sober. Wolf hates it when his dad drinks. He knew Eddie was drunk onstage that night, and was acting cold to him, which set Eddie off. Eddie went beserk and started yanking guitar cables from the pedal boards and throwing cigarettes around onstage.

"At the end of the concert, Eddie was so mad at Wolf, he punched the amp speaker, knocking it over." Van Halen enjoyed a stint in rehab last year (2007), which delayed plans for the comeback tour.

The Cat Empire Soph Preview
PR reports: Australian superstars The Cat Empire will release their new album 'So Many Nights' in the US on April 22 via Velour Music Group. The album is now certified platinum in Australia.

During recent visits to the States, the band has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. No other Australian band has performed on all three television shows.

'So Many Nights' picks up where their previous release, the Cuban-influenced, dance-friendly 'Two Shoes' left off with "Fishies," a Latin-tinged, energetic tune that was co-written by singers Harry Angus and Felix Riebl. Harry and Felix are the group's principal songwriters, and each has his own style of songwriting. When they join forces, the result is a study in contrasts, funky meets suave, energetic meets slinky. Continuing the natural, oceanic theme is another co-written song, "Til The Ocean Takes Us All."

Ex-Pavement guitarist Scott Kannberg, speaking to EW.com, said: "Matador is having a 20th anniversary party soon, so maybe we'll try to do something for that.

Music Makes Teens Horny
Gigwise reports: [A bit of silly news, as we all know that a light breeze will turn on a teen] A scientific study has proved what many have known for a long time, music gives the kids the horn.

Jamaican scientist Tazhmoye Crawford's findings suggested that for kids aged nine (Ed. Starting them young these days aren't they!) to seventeen music is the main stimulant for sexual experimentation.

In the study 10% of males and 5% of females suggested that music is the number one factor. [that's it?] - more on this story
