Willy DeVille RIP
Kayos reports: The rock world has lost another one of its influential pioneers with the death of Willy DeVille. DeVille, 58, was born in Stamford, CT. . He succumbed to pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed only three months ago at 10pm EST, on August 6, 2009 at Cabrini Hospital in York City.

Unique, debonair, and mysterious, Willy DeVille was a staple of the mid-70's New York punk scene. As founder, leader, and principal songwriter of the iconic Mink DeVille, Willy used the creative aesthetic of the CBGB's circuit as an outlet to express his slinky, sexy blend of soul, R&B, blues, Dixieland, and Cajun influences. Mink DeVille enjoyed their first taste of success in the UK with their hit "Spanish Stroll" in 1977 before Willy embarked on a solo career in the mid-80s. His solo single "Storybook Love" was nominated for an Oscar after it appeared in The Princess Bride in 1987. Throughout his career, his musical gumbo was always layered with his deliciously gravelly soul-drenched vocals.

Most recently, Eagle Rock Entertainment were proud to support his artistic vision, with releases such as his 2004 album Crow Jane Alley, and eponymous performances Live in Berlin (2003), Live In The Lowlands (2006), and Mink DeVille: Live at Montreux 1982 (2008) on DVD.

Bison b.c. Hitting The Road With Kylesa
Metal Blade reports: Vancouver, BC's Bison b.c. are once again saddling up their infamous tour van, the Blue Bitch, and hitting the road with Georgia's Kylesa!

The like minded pair of riff infested heavy bands will begin their trek in North Carolina, which includes the Planet Caravan Festival with Clutch, Pentagram, Wino, Burst and tons more. The fest will be a perfect beginning to what promises to be a tour filled with ample amounts of banging heads, sloshing cups of beer and plenty of beards!

Vocalist/guitarist James Farwell issues his update: "So I get back from the baptized in beer tour, and I'm hangin' on the porch with my dog Milo, just shootin' the shit, and I break the news that I'm goin out on the road again in September…he looks up at me with the sad, disappointed look he has mastered for when I tell him things he doesn't want to hear. I scratch him behind his ear and say, "but we get to go out with Kylesa, and Tombs and Red Fang will be there to party, and Saviours…" I see his tail start wagging and he says, "Fucking awesome dude…drink a beer for me, cause sometimes this water just doesn't cut it." - more on this story

Lightning Swords Of Death Ink With Metal Blade
Metal Blade reports: Metal Blade Records is proud to announce inking a deal with LA underground black metal act, Lightning Swords Of Death.

Those who were privy to the band's 2007 release, The Golden Plague, are already aware of the band's prowess. Their second release took the form of a split CD with comrades Valdur, which was only available for a limited time at performances during the country wide 2008 Blodhevn tour. The split continues to infect all who experience its unyielding expression of true chaos, but it's only a precursor of the grand and terrible horror that is looming in the future like a headsman's shadow…

Vocalist Autarch divulges: "Metal Blade has made a pact with the Devil. His knights, Lightning Swords of Death shall go forth to wreak torment upon man and all his works for conquer and the glory of Hell on Earth. We rejoice in this union, together we shall stack the souls of the weak and fill our chalice with the blood of martyrs." - more on this story

Noah and the Whale Present The First Days of Spring This Fall
PR reports: Noah and the Whale's 'The First Days of Spring' an Album and Film will be released in October 2009 on Cherrytree/Interscope. Here is little about the project:

"I do see the film and the album as being together, as a unified thing," says Noah and the Whale's chief songwriter and singer Charlie Fink about the band's new record and accompanying film, The First Days of Spring. "But the album very much came first – it has its own internal narrative."

Noah and the Whale – Charlie Fink, Doug Fink, Tom Hobden and Urby Whale – craft their music with a unique and imaginative vision that sets them apart from the rest, and this October the band will release The First Days of Spring on Cherrytree/Interscope alongside a film of the same name which marks the directorial debut of Charlie Fink and runs the same length as the record. The release is the highly-anticipated follow-up to their gold- selling 2008 debut album Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down.
