Def Leppard The Cartoon TV Series?
Def Leppard used a comic book theme in the video for "Woman," the first single from their mega-selling 'Hysteria' album. Now it appears the band may take things a step further with a cartoon TV series.

Last week Def Leppard announced that they inked a deal with Primary Wave Music Publishing & Marketing. Deals like this are signed all the time so we didn't cover the announcement. However, Reuters spoke with the CEO of the company and learned that one of their big plans is for an animated television show based on Def Leppard. "The project is still in the early stages, and has not been pitched to the networks, but it will depict the five members of the group in a fictional, adventurous setting, said Primary Wave CEO Larry Mestel." They apparently have gaming and cell phone plans as well. more

Here are the general comments from the band and the company about the partnership: "We couldn't be happier to be a part of the Primary Wave family," said Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott. "I am confident that Primary Wave is the best partner to tastefully market our catalog of songs to a wider popular culture audience." - more on this story

Dio Thanks Fans for Cancer Fight Support
Legendary metal frontman Ronnie James Dio has issued his first statement since it was announced over Thanksgiving weekend that he is battling cancer. Here is what he had to say according to BW&BK:

"I'd like to take the time to thank everyone for the most wonderful gift I have ever received - your good wishes, your prayers, your support, your tears and laughter, your anger, your rejoicing, and most of all the unwavering love you have bestowed upon me.

"I guess I've always felt that we were one person and that you've allowed me to be our spokesman, but until this time of my greatest peril, the truth was perhaps slightly hidden. It is hidden no more. Together we shall face the foe and live on to climb higher mountains and explore greater magic. Together we cannot fail."

Rage Against The Simon Cowell Machine A Victory, Band Promises Free Concert
It all started with a Facebook campaign where fans wanted to keep the X Factor winner from topping the UK Christmas charts. And the grassroots effort not only succeeded in that goal but they also brought a band back together. How long that will last is anyone guess, but Rage Against The Machine promised a free concert if they won and now they say they plan to deliver.

Here is the statement that was sent over Sunday morning: "Rage Against the Machine is honored to have been drafted by this historic grassroots campaign to make our song 'Killing in the Name' the No. 1 song on the UK Christmas Week pop chart. This is a huge victory by and for fans of real music and we extend our heartfelt thanks to every fan and freedom fighter who helped make our anthem of defiance and rebellion the Anarchy Christmas Miracle of 2009.

"As promised we will play a free concert in the UK in celebration of this incredible upset victory over the heavily favored X-Factor single. We are also pleased that so much money has been raised for homeless charity Shelter and are happy to donate as well to aid this important cause. While there are many lessons that can be drawn from this historic upset, the main one is this: that ordinary people, banding together in solidarity, can change ANYTHING, be it the pop charts or the world."

Ozzy Plans Soul Sucking New Album
We had the check the calendar when we saw this news. No, it's not April 1st. Ozzy Osbourne actually plans to call his next album "Soul Sucka." Perhaps it's his tribute to 70s porn? Or the answer to "No Bone Movies"?

Metal Underground had this info: Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that his next studio album, the first with new guitarist Gus G. of Firewind fame, will be released in the summer of next year, probably around June time.

The album will be entitled, "Soul Sucka" and features a song of the same name. Two more revealed song titles for the album include "Let It Die" and "Diggin' Me Down. - more metal news from Metal Underground

3 Inches Of Blood, The Black Dahlia Murder and Necrophobic Bonecrusher Fest
It's been a very successful year for the biggest defenders of traditional heavy metal, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, who released a new, highly acclaimed album, Here Waits Thy Doom, and relentlessly toured throughout North America.

In 2010, the band continues their touring onslaught aiming their sights on all of Europe as part of the much anticipated "Bonecrusher Fest" tour in January with The Black Dahlia Murder and Necrophobic.

Smile Empty Soul and Burn Halo Team Up for Tour
Smile Empty Soul have announced more headlining tour dates for their run with Burn Halo (ex-Eighteen Visions). The tour is now scheduled to run through February 6th, 2010 in Ft Wayne, IN. Smile Empty Soul frontman offered the following update from the road:

"This last week has been great! We had a day off at home, which was awesome because I was able to go see my Doctor who told me I can start to put weight down on my leg soon. From there we started back up at the Whiskey in Hollywood, where Jake and I got tattooed by our tour manager Brian's friend, Slim, in the bus in front of the venue. We did a show in Fullerton and then headed out to play the Jingle Bell Ball in Santa Rosa, CA. The show was great and it's always a pleasure hanging out with the people at the 'FOX' rock station out there.

"Next we headed to Las Vegas to play Holiday Havok with Dead by Sunrise and Alice in Chains. Our set was only half an hour so I stood on one leg the whole show and said 'screw the stool', which was exciting cause it means that I'm on my way to standing at all shows, and even walking again. I can't wait!! That show was a blast and the other bands we're amazing! Now we're up north in Washington and we've been driving through tons of crazy snow storms. We don't get up to the northwest too often so it's nice to be here, hope to see you all at the shows." - more on this story
