Ozzy Splits With Zakk Wylde
Rock Radio reports: Ozzy Osbourne has told Classic Rock Magazine that his new home studio has given him a new lease of life. And he's thinking about a new name to go with it. He tells Editor in Chief Scott Rowley: "It's great to have your own studio. I'm just enjoying my life now. I've got a new album and I'm working on it as we speak.

"Zakk Wylde came down and did a bunch of stuff - I don't know if I want to use it but I've got it there if I do. I haven't fallen out with him, but he's got his own band I felt my stuff was beginning to sound like Black Label Society. I just felt like I wanted a change.

"I'm getting a new guitar player. I tried John 5 at one time and I didn't really give him a chance. And I've got a guy from Greece coming in." - more on this story

Robert Plant Royally Honored
AP reports: Robert Plant received a royal honor from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace on Friday, putting the former Led Zeppelin front man one notch above his old band mate Jimmy Page.

But, Plant joked he and Page would not be fighting over rank, even though Plant's new Commander of the British Empire is a higher honor than Page's Order of the British Empire.

"If we can remember each other's phone number at this time in life it's a miracle," he joked. "We're still good friends, we both enjoy a rather dark sense of humor that comes, I think, from being from rather the wrong side of the tracks for all those wild years."

Vains Of Jenna Beat Up Cradle Of Filth Tour Manager
Submitted News reports: Vains of Jenna beats up Cradle of Filth tour manager in dressing room. It seems there was some crazy stuff that went down on tour when English goth rockers Cradle of Filth clashed with the Sweden's bad boys Vains of Jenna.

According to sources the two had numerous confrontations on the Viva La Bands II tour which also featured GWAR & CKY. One of the more serious incidents involved a fight in Florida which Bam Margera talked about this week. The MTV star from Jackass and Viva La Bam has his own radio show on SIRIUS and recently interviewed VOJ lead singer Lizzy DeVine who came on to promote the bands new single "Get it On".

Bam can't help but laugh when he talks about hearing the following from the tour staff: "Vains of Jenna just beat up the guy from Cradle of Filth because they wanted to f**k these girls." And his reply: "That's the best f**king thing I've heard all month." - more on this story

Def Leppard Planning New Album People Won't Buy
SleazeRoxx reports: Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell says the band is currently writing new songs and expects to be back in the studio early next year.

Although, he'll admit releasing new work isn't what it used to be. "It really makes no financial sense to spend a year or whatever making a record the way Def Leppard used to do it because it doesn't pay in the end because not enough people are buying records," said Campbell.

"So you're spending money that you're never going to see back. Although it is fun creatively. We'll always do that and we enjoy doing that. We've also fortunately gotten better at making records quicker and cheaper, so that just kind of pans out in the end, but it's all about playing live. That's what we do really, really well and that's what we enjoy doing.

Rush's Neil Peart Beats Blink-182's Travis Barker For Drummer Of The Year Honor
Blabbermouth reports: Rush drummer Neil Peart has garnered his third consecutive victory as "Drummer Of The Year" in this year's Drummies. He was also named "Best Progressive Drummer."

Enter Music Publishing, publishers of hip, drum magazines worldwide, conducts the Drummies every year, with voting open to anyone from February to May. This year, 5,310 votes were cast in 41 drum/percussion categories ranging from "Best Drummer" to "Best Drum Advertisement."

While Peart has successfully demonstrated his popularity in the last three Drummies, his margin of victory was less than in the last two years, according to Phil Hood, publisher and co-founder of DRUM! magazine. Runner-up Travis Barker gave Peart a serious run and had been the most frequent winner (three victories) prior to Peart's popularity. Thus, Barker remains a very influential, popular drummer as well.

August Burns Red Week: Day 1
antiMusic reports: August Burns Red's new album, Constellations hits stores this week. To celebrate the release we asked JB Brubaker and Matt Greiner to pick some of their favorite tracks from the album and tell us the stories behind the songs. They more than came through! Here is today's song "Thirty and Seven":

JB Brubaker "Thirty and Seven" was the second song I wrote for the record. I kind of had a feeling it might be the opening track for the record based on how hard it hits right off the bat, and the fact that it is simply a nice segue between our previous record "Messengers" and our new record "Constellations." It has the heavy off time break down stuff, a bunch of fast thrashy parts, and some big melodic parts, all of which I think people expect from us.

This song didn't go through too many changes when we brought it together as a band. We added the little ring out double bass part after the first breakdown in practice. That was Matt's idea and I think it works nicely to transition into the darker middle section of the song.

Matt Greiner The lyrical content of this song is inspired by the story told in 1 Samuel 11 where David sleeps with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah. David, in a desperate attempt to cover up his sin, wrote the leader of the army a letter stating, "Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die." Uriah was killed in battle and David married Bathsheba and continued on with his life, but he would later reap the wrongdoing he had sowed. God struck the child that Uriah's wife gave birth to, and it became ill and died.

The song refers to people who cover one sin up with another until they've created a disaster they can't remedy on their own. The lyrics ask the reader to question their dependency on others to get through tough times. The last line in the song offers encouragement in finding freedom from your shame; "You've reached the summit, now transcend the skies."

I wanted to make the first half of the last riff in the song really fast and chaotic while Jake screamed, "What will become of you," over and over again. At the end of the part we pause momentarily before going halftime into the same riff. I think the lyrics are conveyed well through the chaotic music, transitioning into the huge and open 2nd half.
